Honestly this game, despite being earely access, is really well made and something the community was looking for. A "survival game" that balances complexity and easy accessibility perfectly. While the mob AI isn't the best yet, there is so much to explore and see, and the addition of actual dungeons is great. Almost felt like my first time stepping Blackburrow in original EQ when my buddy and I were exploring the first dungeon we found. That I think is its biggest strength, it kind of feels like a more old school game to me in a good.

Actually I found the mob a.i. pretty smart imho, unless they dumbed them down for ea. I was up on a structure shooting at an oozer that was after me, when I got it down to a certain hp level it wouldnt come out of cover or would pop out and back in.

Trolls wont just run the same way around big rocks when coming after you either, if you change direction they will turn and come at you from the other side to try to cut you off.

I would say the immersion is done really well.  Also it does not feel like a chore, it is a survival game, but it lets you play and it doesnt keep you busy with tedious activities.  I have not played CE so i cant help you there.

Microsoft should make an offer to buy them out now, while the price is still good,  could be the next minecraft.

It's a PVE game. There are far more PvE players than PvP ones out there and yet developers keep making games where it's difficult to avoid PvP even if like me you're not remotely interested. All I want, is building, crafting, exploring and defeating nasty monsters. Valheim delivers just that.

Minecraft released 10 years ago, come back in 2031 then be critical if it hasn't. Or do you have some magic crystal ball that can give you that info? Its funny how some peoples feathers are ruffled and get so critical over a game that people are enjoying for the cost of a meal or a movie date.

edit: and before its public release minecraft had a paid public alpha that started in 2009

Just curious are you actually playing the game or are you like wizardry?
If you are/have not played it shouldn't you be in one of your cyberpunk threads being critical of a game you actually play?

How many 6-10 year old girls play minecraft?
What is the appeal of Valheim to this group?

    Yeah about that...

hell how many girls in general play Minecraft - now consider what's the appeal of Valheim for the same group? (hint 40% of minecraft players are female)

    hmm...

To even think that Valheim has the ability to ever get to 126 million players - come on man

Imagine comparing a game that released in early access exclusively on Steam a week ago to a game that has been a cultural phenomenon for a decade and has been around for years across multiple platforms. The fact that they cracked 2 million is a huge accomplishment no matter how you spin it. I don't get where comparing demographics of age groups and the like factors into this conversation at all. It is simply a game that released and is doing really well; who cares about what demographic is buying it?

I'm really liking the game. Repairing stuff, portal system, cart are all made with player fun in mind. Usually stuff like that sounds good on paper but fails when implemented. That's not the case with Valheim. They nailed it.

They aren't hiding behind early access, the game isn't finished. It isn't riddled with bugs and it's already fun as hell

Not even close to next minecraft as devs are 100% opposed to any mod support. They've set this hard line in stone about - no mods.

So this alone will ensure that it will never be "next minecraft" - also Minecraft appeals to a very wide age group - from 5-6 year olds to 90+ year olds, this sadly does not have such appeal - also 40% of minecraft players are female.

120 million monthly minecraft players - over 200 million copies sold - Valheim will never come even close to these numbers.

Yeah... that damn Minecraft went and sold 4M copies while the game was in alpha and "beta" access.   Those damn jerks...

If they had just held out and done a full launch they would have really made bank.

Why are you really here remsleep? You made it crystal clear you would never buy a EA game.

Anyone remember Atlas's EA steam user review? Was it anywhere near 96% of the 41000+ reviews are positive?

Remsleep, I don't play early access myself, so won't be playing this until it launches, but what's your beef here? They have done really well all things considered, sure saying its the new Minecraft is over-hyping it, but that's what gamers do. :)

I don't really care if a game is finished . . I never finish them anyway.  I look at the dollar/entertainment value. . This game has been 4X that of others for me.  I don't buy much in EA anymore but a few people are doing it right.  I certainly never pre-order.

When I decided too early to go into the dark forest, I grabbed my gear and then I saw it!. . Freaked me out.  I am not going to get that stuff back any time soon :)

Was there a point you were trying to make here?

Minecraft was never in early access on Steam - they did all that shit on their own, without steam without MS.

My complaint is strictly about steam early access - not about games doing alpha/beta on their own - I have zero issues with that.

Oh I think you are smart enough to figure out the point on your own.

Does anyone have a link to a list of things they need to finish before the game is ready for launch?

Because people keep saying "it's not finished" - that means there's a list of things they are working on - so have the devs disclosed this?

If it's not "feature complete" - what features are missing? Does anyone know?

have they also mentioned the approximate timeline of how long it's supposed to stay in early access (steam early access docs actually mention this as a requirement - and if there is no time frame given, the devs have to explain why)
