Mining has had quite a few gameloop updates and is pretty well fleshed out/rewarding atm. 3.12.1 Has been a great experience with some minor bugs, the map is always shitty. There is work arounds for almost all the minor bugs.

Give it a shot with the free fly, I think most naysayers will be impressed.

    2022?

Hey... a lot of legitimate bad stuff can be heaped on Star Citizen, but these events give prospective players a chance to actually see what exists prior to making a purchase. And thats a good thing and better than most Crowdfunded games.

Absolutely. As much grief as this game gets, & sometimes deservedly so, this is an excellent offering by the company to any considering the purchase, I being one of them.

You mean MOST of the time deservedly so.

People can check this out but I would advise against any purchase regardless of how it is looking, wait for release or at least until they announce a release date. This has been in development for ages with no real sign of launch anytime soon

Since the alpha still doesn't have a proper tutorial and a lot of the mechanics are unusual it's highly recommended to watch some tutorials before jumping in:

Also the game really needs a SSD and at the very least 16GB Ram. :D

"give prospective players a chance to actually see what exists prior to making a purchase. "

Just to be clear. The game is not for sale, and cannot be purchased. The game has not released.

You can donate money and play whatever they have now, but you are not buying the game. They are clear that if they don't produce a game, you do not get your money back.

Just to be clear, you can not donate anything to RSI's store. Depending on the item the store has option to either "pledge" or to "buy now". RSI never uses word donate - it's never used in their store, never in their terms of use, and never in their EULA.

Pledging through RSI's store is a kind of conditional purchase where you get the item you bought if and only if RSI finishes it. It's not a donation - at least it's never called donation by RSI.

That's a good way to phrase it. You are spending money on the CHANCE that a game will eventually be released. If it never releases, you lose your money.

I don't consider it a scam, so long as that is how you approach it. You can spend money now, play what they have now, and so what if you end up with no game? You did get to play some, and you knew what you were doing with your money.

What you are referring to is the same thing as Steam Early Access games. You buy them as they are on the moment you buy them, not the finished version, no EA developer is forced due to that same line of ToS of the service, to fulfill the entire roadmap/vision of the title (including maintaining the live service of MP titles).

So the same goes here as it would go in Steam EA as far as what you are set to minimally expect. I have actually found a lot of people are not aware of this (or plain ignore it expecting something else), hence why all the outrage dramas we see every now and then. When such disclaimers exist, the risk can't be ignored for the sake of making the best decision of buying in or not.

It is true that EA games aren't bound to a feature roadmap, but it is not the same as "may not ever deliver" or the "donation" mentality. Studios must have the intent to deliver and can't treat that as an indefinite or "maybe we will maybe we won't".
That is my point, and what is happening here as well when put in context, hence is why it does not differ (in terms of consumer expectation & development reality).

Those conditional purchases aren't made with conditional money. If RSI doesn't finish SC then it amounts to a donation, or tossing your money in the trash, depending on how forgiving one feels about their failure.
