    Buy to play like GW2.

F2P. Might as well since subs haven't gone up with inflation and they really can't go over $15 without everyone calling them greedy.

You know what else hasn't gone up with inflation? Wages.

    B2P + DLCs like guildwars 1.

I like cosmetics, but I was preferring when they were the result of an achievement and not a simple expanse.

Mandatory subscription is my preference, provided the game itself interests me.

I'm good with the ESO Model. The way it's set up you can still muck around if not paying the sub, but have an actual incentive to sub if you are psyched.

Yet those wages would have been better spent on a subscription fee increase than on cash shop purchases that supplement fixed subscription fees. At least the former would be a fixed amount with no potential pay to win elements.

Client purchase and monthly subscription, no cash shop and paid expansions that are truly expansions and not small updates. These companies have gotten fat and lazy and think they don't have to EARN our precious money.

GW2/ESO model because you can always go back without paying, but
I like the idea of No box cost with Subs like the way Ashes of creation is going,

Sub model or box price + DLC expansions (micro or major).
So far, every single mmorpg with f2p model has been shit so I don't have much confidence that is going to change.

The important thing here for me is:
NOTHING that translates to any item or cosmetic in game, can be RMT - Including alt currencies to use in npc shops.
EVERYTHING you get in game, MUST come from playing the game.

    Simple as that ..

I just want a game. Monetization is secondary (unless it's extreme, SC for instance). But I am just hungry for an MMOPRG that delivers on all fronts as a game. I have no doubt that there will be an offering at some point that can satisfy, I'm just tired of waiting for it at this point.

I prefer games instead of payment models. It may sound as avoiding the answer, but still true...
If I find a game fun, I'll play it even if it has the worse p2w garbage of a payment model.
Same for the opposite, if a game is a boring, shallow crap, I won't play it, even if it has my "favourite" payment model.

As for what is that for me, it won't be much of a surprise since I've been babbling about it for years now in most "payment model" threads :)
    I believe it was LotRO's f2p model between 2010 and Mordor/SSG (2017).

It was the best of both worlds, as @camel linked/paraphrased it from the original notion.
Flexible, from the traditional subscription plus purchased expansions, to the absolutely free play, or anything inbetween the two, according to players' preferences on spending habits and grind tolerance.

Beyond that flexibility (which was the best feature imo), it also was an honest model where players actually could purchase/unlock the whole game in time, piecemeal.
Or could only get the parts they're interested in to have, and ignore the rest.

Sadly it took a more predatory turn with SSG, and got worse ever since. It's still my favourite due to the flexibility (and by large part due to I have the whole game unlocked already, so I can mostly ignore the new shenanigans :) ), but let's just say now it leaves a certain bad aftertaste when discussing it.

A subscription, for one thing you don't get all those teenagers fresh out of high school. :)

A sub with expansions, or B2P with DLC as the second favourite. In theory a cash shop is fine as long as it just has cosmetics, but as we all know in practise nearly every cash shop won't stop at cosmetics and become P2W.

Im not playing often so i like most Buy and play free after it like guild wars, next is subscription but if you forget to cancel it they will steal money even if you dont play.
And i absolutly hate all models Pay 2 Win, you cannot have advantage with money in game!

I was playing one game where one guy terroriyed and destroyed experience for hundreds as he liked to steal your days of work and he was spending 500$ - 1000$ a month to maintain his absurd advantage, if this was subscription im sure at last 1000 people will pay it if they have a honest balance! In end server was dead as everyone normal left

I prefer the B2P/Hybrid like ESO, sometimes I can afford to pay the subscription and sometimes times are hard and I cannot; I like the fact that if I can't pay I can still play and maybe just lose some content access or some perks. With a subscription like WoW or even FFXIV if I can no longer pay the subscription I'm out of the game.

Subscription with no cash shop at all. I will pay for expansions as they come.

I'd actually rather deal with a F2P scheme with a cash shop -- I'm disciplined enough to avoid paying when my anemic budget won't allow it, and if I like what I see, I am willing to support (at a very minor level) when life is busy kicking someone else.

I used to pay subs when we had no other choice....Once Anarchy Online offered a free option I started moving away from it.....I am glad I stopped when I did as it saved alot of money the past 15 years or so......I still contribute here and there (mostly with b2p games) but you'd be amazed how much money $15 a month adds up to over time (and that is just one MMO, what if we play several?)....I tend to look at my investments long term, and not just over one month. Also I just don't feel like any of the games are worth paying the extra for.....I wouldn't play FFXIV, ESO, GW2, or any of the other popular MMOs even if they were free.

    It's why i play WoW and SWG:L

Pay sub, play and Earn, while not be inundated with cash shop BS.

Cash Shop, its mere presence disgusts me. worst thing to happen to mmorpg's, also cause its how they could do the free to play BS as well.

Example in EQ2 i remember a guild person and i think it was one of the times i tried to make a come back but was ultimately sick to my stomach of the butcher job they did to such an amazing mmorpg, was they went from $15 a month to averaging $400 a month and they were perfectly fine about it, hey you got more money than you know what to do with it i guess, but their reasoning was they don't drink ect, this is their entertainment and helps keep the game alive. And Whales were born lol :)

Even though I hate cash shops I don't think there is any publisher that looks at it and say, I don't want all that money. That box has sadly already been open.

Subscription with a strict cosmetic cash shop that has no convenience or P2W items. No mention of the cash shop inside the game.

Marvel Heroes had a F2P model that suited me very well. Non-P2W F2P models are my favourites.
  • WizardryWizardry Member LegendaryPosts: 19,332
A FAIR and HONEST business model.

Claiming FREE to play is not being honest.
Example Wizard 101 has always been dishonest and not running a FAIR business model.

The developer knows best what would be considered FAIR but in reality they want as much money as they can get.

If someone at work asked for your help with a project you are not going to pry as much money out of them as you can,you might even do the work for free as i have many times in my life. This is because you try to treat each other with RESPECT,you are working with these people everyday and would like to get along with them everyday.

Devs don't care about you after they get your money. The only time they ACT/pretend like they care is if they need to create an IMAGE to further sales.Onc sales have dwindled to nothing they might continue that act if they have something NEW to sell you.Otherwise devs do NOT respect their customers, they see you as a sucker, how much can we sucker this person in to giving us.

I only give money to games where all players are on a level playing field.

As soon as someone can pay extra for perks that company doesn't get my money and I won't be playing long term.

So I'm ok with a pure subscription model or a pure buy to play model.

Buy the game, pay a monthly sub and get all the game has to offer... maybe buy an occasional expansion... nothing else.

Imagine you are like six hours into playing WoW and you run out of mana and you get a popup to refill mana for a dollar. In the heat of the moment you're not exactly going to be price sensitive and I'd love to pay a dollar to get my mana back. Bliss.
