O.K., AA has been out a month now. I'm still having fun, so I will pay the fee. I still see that the servers have low pops. Does anybody know the number of subscribers AA has? I know most can only guess, but I'm curious. I think this game is being missed by most players. It really should be a top 10 type game. I mean, I play otherr games, but I cannot remember a game that I enjoyed this much. Except maybe WoW when it first came out in 2004.

I don't think AA had many subscribers.  I would wager that they haven't even broken the 100,000 mark.  With the server populations being VERY low, they may have even failed to break 50,000.  It's really sad too, because the game really is great.  I have enjoyed it so far, and it's a very unique experience.  I have recommended it to all my friends, and several are currently on the free trial.  Of course it's not for everyone either.  It's definately a niche game, but I would think they weren't expecting it to be this low-population.  Usually it's a bad sign when an MMO offers a free trial to soon out of the gate.  Lets hope this doesn't end up to be a failure.  I'm sure they have invested a lot of time and money, and they need to have a good subscriber base for it to pay off.  If not, they probably cut their losses eventually and cancel the game (lets hope they don't).

i have tried it out now for 4 weeks and got to the stage where i realised what im looking for in a mmorpg. and it isnt AA. so i cancelled today. the games fun dont get me wrong but its simple. Too simple sometimes.

it doesnt have any learning curve or longtivity in it. And im not paying for something that isnt giving me that "fix" we all need.

I only hope a real mmorg comes out thats hard and has the community backing.

Jessian, I respect your decision to leave, but I am curious what you meant by you are looking for something that is "hard"?

I am having a great time myself, and finding myself really challeneged as I try to move on to new areas, granted the game doesnt take the strategy of EVE online, but they are each a different breed.

It would be nice if it had a bumper view and steering wheel worked with it.  It is a arcade driving game.  The car physics and slides are cool so an front end view and steering wheel would make it more fun.  It is not really much of an mmorpg at all.  At least not yet.

What do you mean by that? what do you feel it is lacking beyond the camera views you mentioned?

mmorpg means massive multiplayer and today for example I probably ran into 4 to 6 other players in over 6 hours.  The server population says very low.  Is that relative to the size of world and server meaning its so large people are that spread out and the percentage of available server space is small?  I have played way too many mmorpgs than I should being the time factor involved and this one is very cool but no much interaction among other players.   I see more chat from the npc's than other players going on.  Its cool and there are so many other mmorpg's out there diluting the market share.  I just cancelled DandD online and going to get rid of COV/COH and just keep this and WOW for a while.  I have had accounts from Ryzom and EVE to EQ and WOW everything in between (counted 16 and probably probably forgot some)   Maybe im just in the wrong place on map.  I think a first person view would be cool.

People need to understand that besides the fact that AA was deliberately designed to be solo-friendly, there are three other key factors as to why this game will NEVER and can NEVER be as social as other MMOPRG-- and yes, I WILL call it an MMORPG.

First, when doing the kill-the-monster, the player's hands are ALWAYS on the controls-- driving and depressing the trigger.  There is no /stick and /attack and wait around watching your avatar swing an axe every 2.3 seconds.  Therefore, unless you have been bioengineered with four arms, you will not be able to type chat at the same time.

Second, to be feasible with the scale of 90mph travel, zones are HUGE.  If they weren't, just imagine how long you could race your buggy across East Commonlands in EQ1 without having to zone- 20 seconds maybe?.  This means that by necessity there will be a fairly low physical player density in the milieu.  Honestly, at the high rate at which you can mow down the local flora and fauna, I don't know that I want to be competing with another player on the same hill or valley.

Third, this game is designed to have non-stop action with minimal down-time to OOM.  This alone eliminates much of the time that people in other games would type chat at people for lack of anything else to do.  Nothing stopping people from braking thier ride to a halt in a mob-free spot and typing.  I have several times.

Yes, there are town zones, but those tend to be in-and-out to pick up and complete quests unless you are crafting.

As for me, I am used to the open road nature, and will still type to be social when I STOP AND MAKE THE TIME TO.  If monthly fee = type chatting with many people in your frame of view all the time, then it's probably best to take a pass on this game.  As for me, I'm playing to take a nice break from elves.

yea like I said I cancelled other games to play this one more.  It is a nice break from others.   I hope it doesnt get boring after a while.  They already have the cars the streets and huge maps.  It is a driving game as well.  It would be cool if they had cross town races or something later on.  As an option.  If people dont want to race they dont have to.   Its just since they have most the work done it would be a nice option.

After 3 weeks I've been very impressed with Auto Assault.
I'm just now looking at the forums and seeing the various opinions and I'm
happy to see so many people are enjoying the game as I am (about a 8 for and 2
    against ratio from my perspective).

Great combat, love the various cars, fun boss battles, and impressive environment
as well as variety of mobs to crush and dismember.

Overall, Auto Assault is the best game in terms of fun I’ve played in some
    time... online or otherwise.

    Me like games... *burp*

Actually the more I Play it the mroe I like it.   Jumping, Sliding, all kinds of car stuff beats the hell outta an elf running around in underware.   I am still at a low level 9 so looking forward to going other places.   the snow and effects of weather and terrain effect the driving in a very cool way.   working towards a faster, better handling and  more powerful car give the game cool stuff to look forward to.  This game does have action thats for sure.

Well, correct me if my facts or logic or incorrect here. But it seems to me the game is often making me root against having more people around - the opposite of how you'd want an MMORPG to be. Consider:

There are times, not every mission but often enough, where I'm hunting a specific mob. I hit all the spawn spots, get all I can find, make a second big circle to verify they're all gone, then have to wait for them all to respawn. That can repeat several times easily just to get enough to complete the mission. And that's with no other players in sight. What if 3 other players also needed those same guys? We'd damn well better figure that out and team before we drive each other crazy. Unless of course we actually want mission drops instead of kill counts, in which case the convoy can't help that.

And that's to say nothing of the 4 other players who don't care about the guys we're chasing, but need to kill the guy standing next to the one I want. Or the players who are just sweeping through for salvage. Scarcity is a definite reason not to want to see other players online. And teams I imagine could work but it also seems very easy to have multiple players around the same level with very little overlap in missions.

Now admittedly I haven't played higher than 20 yet, though I've hit upper teens in all 3 factions. But I have tried to convoy when I see another player chasing the same guys I want and even when it works it's short-lived. Snivius gave good reasons why there's built-in challenge to the MMO aspect. That should have been all the more reason to design teaming to be easy and beneficial and I fear they didn't leverage nearly well enough in that regard.

I'm no expert, but I know what I like!

MMO?  I don't know, but this game is just fun.

Basically AA has come along at the perfect time for me.  After a very long WoW grind, I just don't want to see another elf at the moment.  AA is different, fast paced and just the medicine I needed until the next epic MMO is released.  At this time, I don't see one coming until the end of the year (or longer), so AA will fill the void until then.

Will this game keep me interested for years and years?  In its current form I would say no, but it is absolutely a blast to play for now.  We will see what the future holds for AA as time moves on.

To those who like to compare, don't even bother.  Can you compare AA to WoW or EQ2 or EvE?  Just a waste of breath.  We all know there is no comparision there.  Apples and Oranges.  If you are sick of the grind and need a break, AA is for you.  If you love Raiding and Grinding and all the "fun" that goes with that, enjoy!  Nobody is wrong, just play what you like.

AA is fun but really doesn't have the depth to keep someone like me playing. I prefer to put 4-5 years into playing an MMORPG but after the initial fun part ( I can get this with any game) I feel it's just too simple. Feels like a single player game at times.

I prefer the virtual world type of approach to my MMORPG rather than a multiplayer game.

I think that's fair.  It's a question of what the games are trying to offer.

I'm actually looking for a lot of fun per minute from games.  I no longer have the time for games that play more like a long-term investment, so I'm really happy some MMOs are set up like City of Heroes and Auto Assault.

I agree that Auto Assault can feel like a single player game.  It's unusual to get destroyed while soloing, so convoying is basically optional.

However, now that I have some cool people in my friends list, I have found that it's a lot more fun in a group.  You can also proceed faster because you don't need to return to repair stations as often.

Returning to stuff that Shreddi mentioned on the first page of this thread, I would like for them to add an in-the-car view too.  I don't think you'd want to use it during combat -- situational awareness would suffer -- but it would be good to have.  Having that as a point of view option would make it seem more like we have full size cars that we can sit in.  Right now, it's kind of like an R.C. car game.

You supposedly can use a steering wheel peripheral to control the game.  I haven't tried plugging my wheel in.  For a combat game like this, I have found that Playstation type joypads work better, and that is what I have been using for Auto Assault.  (You do have to find the "enable joystick" settings in the game's options first.)
