EverQuest pioneered the 3D massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. For many people, it would forever change how we would interact with games and people online. Even after 22 years players are flocking towards the venerable world of Norrath to discover long lost friends and adventures. Michael was surprised at how much he felt the draw to get back into the MMO recently.

I am playing Everquest 2 right now. The game has a fantastic community and people really answer questions and help you.

I know people said that EQ2 had an awful art style but I always liked it and love it and now when you set the graphics to max on the Nvidia settings the details really stand out and game looks good. The quests are so well written something many games don't even care about and I am enjoying myself playing it.

I hope both games continue for many years to come.

RMT has been part of EQ since launch, daybreak just profits off of it now.

If they offered a TLP that was Krono-free (no Krono allowed on/to/from) ?
Our guild would play that forever.

I believe we're allowed to talk about Project 1999 here, as it's acknowledged and allowed by the current official owners. People may find what they're looking for there.

I still log in a couple of times a year to see if anyone I knew from the past is playing and the answer is always no, at least not the characters I knew anyway.......I domnt hardly ever see anyone else around much either....maybe on the newer progressive servers, but even those they have like 8-9 of them and probably spread the players too thin.

I played EQ for another stint back in 2019-2020 to pass part of the lock-down time. It's still a decent game, but not worth subbing to imo. I never raided, mostly soloed/moloed & occasionally grouped with guildies. If the Mercenary system was better I'd consider returning & maybe subbing, but it doesn't seem Daybreak wants to actually give it bones just use it for marketing.

I probably still have a Beta invite from way back when for the game.  For some reason I never could get it to load and work.

I went onto SOE right before they changed their name to Daybreak and it was still listed as pending.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

No, they really won’t. P1999 has run for so long without an economical reset now that it’s tipped the wrong way. I think P1999 would be much cooler if they had a server that resets every 24 months or so

I just came back to EQ2 after years (3 years I think) away and love it. I forgot how good the game is...... I started out fresh (at lvl 1) and made my way to lvl 72 so far. I'm enjoying the ride!

Krono didn't ruin it, actually made it more viable option for someone who doesn't like to pay full sub price for a 20 year old game.
The archaic time sinks are what kills it for me. Absolutely no reason for ultra-rare drops and/or ultra-rare mobs and/or hours long respawn rates. This sort of low supply/high demand is basically what fuels the toxicity.
If nostalgia is what you want, it's there, but if you want any desirable gear or spells, it comes with the baggage.

Eq and eq2 hasn't really aged well regarding graphics.

No disagreement here, but focus on graphics is what impedes game content development.

Yeah I agree with this. I played on my first TLP on Aradune and I could never shake the feeling of the Chrono selling / buying p2w crap. I wish they had official TLP servers with no chrono at all.

I came back to play on a TLP, its been a while since I quit. I quit because of the Krono farmers facerolling everyone camping for epic drops. DBG just didnt care about the griefing. There were so many simple solutions to those long camps that DBG could have changed but would rather let someone pay the 45 krono for the L.guk drop. You know, the one put up for sale that you watched someone else kill steal from you not 5 minutes ago...

Yea, if this is how any game has devolved to, I'll pass. Used to love EQ, Krono economy ruined it. RIP

That is so damaging. So shortsighted of them to allow this.

I want to be in the Everquest universe. Here's to hoping that DBG sells the IP to someone who makes games.

I agree completely. The EQ IP is enchanting. I played EQ1 briefly when it first came out(I got into UO hard before I tried EQ out). I still sometimes jump into EQ2 just to feel the presence of that art. I think the EQ lore and setting is absolutely amazing and underrated in general. And I feel like EQ2 took way too hard a hit by EQ1 vets.

A valid Everquest presence needs to happen. It's magical.

Turns out I haven't aged too well "graphically" the past 20 years either, but I'm still my awesome self where it matters.

I wouldn't even mildly consider EQ because FFXI surpassed it in every way and then added a lot more including QOL stuff.
EQ was like the starting point for online mmorpg's,a good place to start but as should be the genre evolved until about FFXI then it became stagnant for years.
