What is the best pvp?

Well ive been looking for the best pvp in mmo's.

I think Rf Online is the best massive war based mmo.

Guild wars is good for like 4vs4 8vs8 or 12vs12 but not my faviorte.

Runescape is fun with the pking.

Ive been looking for a game that has really good pvp  kinda like rf but better if anyone knows any good games like that were you fight to get terratory or any big battles post for me.

Tell me what your faviiorite pvp game is!

DAoC is widely know for it's end game RvR (Realm vrs Realm) pvp. It is said to be the best interpretation of PvP at the moment. Better than RF even. There are castles that you can control and fight for, using siege equipment and any force you can conjure up. Some zerg around, others do 8v8, while stealthers solo and defenders watch over our keeps. There are mini-RvR areas called BG's that enable you to do the exact thing you do in RvR, but in a smaller area.

    Shadowbane...
    anyone agree?

DAoC RvR has always been imbalanced. Buffbots, widespread hacks, realm population imbalances, rediculous amounts AoE crowd crontrol that allow a single group to mez and kill dozens of characters and ToA are just a few of the problems with DAoC PvP. Waiting for hours on siege equipment to knock a door down isn't fun, either.

PlanetSide is a blast... and you can play for free. PlanetSide is more a large scale FPS than a MMO but it's still pretty fun to play from time to time.

There are other games but none I'd recommend. There's EvE (bleh), AO (erm), ShadowBane (hah), Lineage/2 (yawn), SoR (zZz), and even WoW BGs (queue)... but all of these games have more downsides than up.

In the distant future there will be Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, and Aion. Age of Conan is FunCom (Anarchy Online) so expect a better version of AO. Warhammer Online is Mythic (DAoC/Imperator) so expect a better version of DAoC. Aion is being done by NCSoft and is in early development so it could go several ways... but it's definately going to be one to watch.

I fully expect AoC, WAR and Aion to eventually release and flop. MMO devs can't resist itemization, PvE raids and grinds.

    Have you tried Internet Hearts?

Ultima Online is the masters of PVP. Open PVP owns all these other "pvp" games.

    Lineage 2.

Say what you will of L2's PvE but if you're in a decent PvP clan, L2 PvP is hard to beat.

There's all kinds of PvP covered in this game.
Zoned PvP - Hero tournaments, arena
    Massive PvP - Castle Sieges
    Clan PvP - Clan wars
    Free-for-all PvP - Flag/Karma system

I also enjoyed the PvP on EvE online.

I tend to prefer games where I can choose who to kill, instead of the game telling me who to fight against (RvR).

    MMO Fav List:
    Lineage 2 | 5x Silver Ranger, 7x Shillien Elder <- Active
    WoW | 6x Rogue, 1x Priest
    Anarchy Online | 8x MetaPhysicist
Saga of Ryzom | Matis Light Armourer

Waiting for: Age of Conan, Lineage 3

Eve is good but it takes a long time to be competitive.  The up coming Dark and Light is pure PvP

The guildwars franchise has the best pvp hands down, however its more a sport than a random killing spree so choose well.  Mind you, you can win many thousands of dollars playing PvP in GW, that cant be said for other games.

I would have to 3rd Shadowbane.  Unfortunately, it's about to become abandonware by the company, since their working on Shadowbane 2.  So the servers are gonna go to hell probobly.

After examining the post with legalistic attention to detail (ensuring that you did not specify "RPG"), I'll go with PlanetSide.

For those that have tried Silkroad, how is the PvP there?

until ubisoft freaked out and started deleting servers and screwing people over, Shadowbane was my favorite PvP game. It was open PvP with almost full looting (you kept what you were wearing but that was it)... you could kill ANYONE including guildmembers ANYWHERE except in the nooby towns.

You could build your own cities and lay siege to other people's cities.

Shadowbane is the best PvP game I've ever played.

RFO's PvP is pretty crappy IMO because the game mechanics just aren't good. The targetting system sucks, BMAUs are overpowered and leveling is a pain in the arse... don't get me started on PT... so it's hard to even keep up with your character's level.

    WoW's PvP was a joke.

DAoC had great PvP but... nothing else that's fun.

I'm enjoying Guild Wars: Factions at the moment... awesome small scale PvP and pretty fun story based PvE (the story is kind of silly, but it makes leveling quick and painless... you get max level before you finish, but finishing unlocks some PvP content for you and you can pick up Elite skills off bosses). And NO SUBSCRIPTION!

    Yay for PvP

The concept for PVP in DAoC was great, but horribly imbalanced.  And now theres almost no one left to kill, the servers are empty even now that they're clustered.  Soloing is almost impossible unless you enjoy waiting an hour for a kill.

Planetside was fun too, too bad nobody really plays anymore either

EVE PVP is fun so far.

DAoC has excellent pvp and it's nicely balanced realm wide, but some classes can be bit underpowered, and some overpowered in certain situations. Downside are buffbots on normal servers and too powerful cc on classic servers. With latest expansions grind is minimal. Right know, they are not many hacks in game, before some people used radars and speed hacks, most banned very fast. But you still can meet people radaring from time to time, but nothing big, at least on my cluster, Mythic is quite good banning them. But game is old, so less people and bit outdated animations and graphic.
GW and Planetside are not mmorpgs, still fun, but probably for less time then real mmorpgs, not my type.
EVE is really good, but client had some technical problems (memory leaks, problems with dual core CPUs) and it's quite strange, not all like it. But if you get into it, probably one of the best mmorpgs.
UO still alive? Bah, I left this game like 6 years ago or more
Lineage 2 is typical asian mmorpg, don't like it, for me is too much grind, farming bots, gankfest, avatars looks like clones. But if you like this type of games, probably best choice.

Considering PVP, has anyone actually considered going back to UO, but on a free shard with the old ruleset? Anyone knows a good one (for PvP)?

I wanted to try RF online but then I read that the massive fights (chip wars?) that happen 3 times a day, do not fall into the times that I play (8PM/4AMh/12AM GMT). Bad luck I guess :(.

    EVE Online.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

I honestly think EQ2 has the fairest and simple PvP out of all.

But in the real world, nothing is fair. To quote off Unreal Tournament 2004: "Life's a bitch, get over it!"; I conclude that EVE has the most unfair and indeed most fun PvP.
