Kakao Games is slowing pulling back the veil on their upcoming MMO, Elyon (the MMORPG formerly known as Ascent: Infinite Realm). In a FAQ posted in an Elyon fan server, CM Yukimura detailed some answers from the Elyon team to some of the burning questions surrounding the MMORPG.

But too often it's just "We can charge box price at release, then make several huge box discounts, then turn the thing into F2P"
Even successful P2P games like Black Desert just use the box price as excuse for running special campaigns where the game costs nothing but cash shop is still priced the same. Though GW2 is kind of an exception and actually make money through selling boxes and expansions.
archeage was free to play when it come out so is not the same
ArcheAge was a sub-based game when it originally released. It went F2P shortly thereafter.
it was high fantasy but it had some techs, plus the race cars was kinda a costly endevor since you had to craft using some rare materials, but of course P2W hit and then fucked the game up, but all in all you would never be crazy to use the cars in combat, and it was useless for cargo
