Im on ventrilo with an old guildy (Cogliostro) right now and he reports this:
    Theed: 3 people
    Coronet:  0 people
    Mining Outpost Dantooine: 2 people
    Mos Eisley: 3 people

I dont know about you, but those don't look like progressive numbers to me.

I can only say, midnight sunday chimaera server
Coronet 15 people, more than pre NGE plus 7 or so dotted around corners of the map on corellia
Bestine had about 30 or so
and mos Eisley have 40 or more and this was at midnight. TBH it was a bit annoying as i was just looking for some easy npcs to try the combat out on.
I'm logging on again now. You all might be happy to know my medic cant take on a krayt , at least at this stage of my learning curve(once i practice) although i did take out 3 rancors at the same time because of that aim thing.
Stormies btw stil drop milk and eggs, but they've brought some kind of balance to this by having Bolmas on Dath dropping retrofitted E 11 rifles.
I'm really in two minds though, i gotta say.

Eisley always seems to have a good amount of new players there.  I shuttled in there with RIS on the other day and a crowd gathered around me :/

*sigh*  Another blatant rip-off of World of Warcraft.

I guess it has its advantages, though.  You will have a much lower learning curve when you actually start playing WoW.

Elite mobs and the like have been in since the CU (over a year now :p).

And exactly how does that change the fact?

I fear you've fallen victim to the dark influence of Smedley's Wicked Gamers (SWG), becareful lest you are initiated fully into the cult of Smedley's Online Eunuchs ($OE). Try to remember the reasons why you left, the army of fanbois praising their darklord and sacrificing their credit card details to him. The sick and twisted chanting, "NGE, Star Warsy, Iconic, fun!" soon you'll be sacrificing noobs on $medley's altar chanting with Obraik and pirrg "kill/diembowel/repeat, kill/disembowel/repeat, kill/disembowel/repeat!". With high priestess Nancy watching over the ceremony as you drape the dead noobs internal organs over the stone idol of $medley.

It's not too late for you, remember the revamp is a lie and soon the four horsemen of the apocalypse will arrive PS3, Launchpad, Station Access and $25. After they have come there'll be nothing left the already dwindling population will be massacred and you with them if you're not carefull! I'm doing this for you, for the sake of your own sanity. Try EVE Online first, there's a free trial or try anything first that's not involced with the $OE cult!

I admit that they don't prove anything useful, but they aren't meaningless. They reflecte exactly the number of people that existed online on a single galaxy at several major locations (and Moenia, cause that's where I logged in at) within a five minute span. What it doesn't show is plenty, but what it does show is that the game has more people playing at 2:45 on a Monday afternoon than most here would suggest.

Find an SOE employee and get the info from him. That is the only way. Otherwise you are just posting random numbers to make yourself feel good as you can not prove your numbers any more then you can prove mine are wrong.
Well, they weren't random. I posted the extact numbers a /who gave me at the exact time that I wrote that post - SWG was in another window. I posted the galaxy I was one, as well as the time.  It would be a simple enough matter for one of the other posters on this board with an active subscription to go over to Ahazi and double check what I posted (in fact, when I quit, Mustafar had four more people than when I posted - I guess school got out).
You can choose whether to believe them or not, but those numbers are checkable by a third party. I gave enough information. Come next Monday at 2:45, have someone else post their numbers for Ahazi. Heck, let's get three independant people to measure the same server at the same time without letting each other know their results and post it here (though you'd have to drop three from each number because they'd be counting each other). We get them to do that three time a day for three weeks and we've got enough observed data to start basing assumptions on.

As for getting info from a SOE employee, you'd just call bullshit and say that there is no way to prove it too.

I say 1,000,000 players where on last night. You say I'm wrong, I say I'm right. Prove it. Whatcha gonna do post a little screenshot of server pops? Thats not valid proof.

I think we may be on the same side here. I like SWG. I have a subscription to it and play it daily. However, I take great offense at your "nothing is valid unless proven, and nothing can be proven on the internet" approach. It seems like the kind of self fufilling circular logic that somehow always ends with you being right. The numbers I posted, while lower than I would've liked, aren't meaningless nor are they fiction or might as well be fiction.

I know you don't want to hear this, but it must be said: First, I would like to hand you a roll of tissue and instructions on how to properly fold it so it does the most good.  Besides that brown stuff with the foul stench on your face, I like to look people in the face.  That is hard to do covered in poo.

Smedley has already said that many people voted with their feet and have left the game.  More so after the NGE than even the CU.

No there were no.  They don't have enough server capacity to handle 1milion concurrent users.

    So there. End of debate

Well, you haven't used the tissue yet.  So, if it looks like poo, if it smells like poo, it is poo.  If you like to be a swine an swim in it, it is certainly your choice.  However, I have a higher expectation for my dollar.  I also value my time, and SOE told many players their time was of not value to them.  They lied, they were dishonest and they deserve every bit of criticism they get.  If you like pending over in the prisoners shower, so be it.  But honestly, I don't want to hear hear you whine about it.

    So, GAME OVER!

Hey Squidi, please don't take it as a personal attack. I just don't see the validity of the numbers. Shopshots of server populations just are not good enough as there are to many variables. On top of it all that a population check does is make a snapshot of 1 particular second in game. Anything could change from second to second. (more or less at any one instance)

I know you didn't say it but someone here said that there are only a few thousand people playing and they are partially basing it on these numbers. To say that game x does or does not have x amount of subscriptions because a 04:45 and 45 seconds there where x amount of people in x location on x server is a weak agruement at best. I'm not saying your numbers are wrong (which they could be based on the amount of variables involved) but they don't come close to giving a true statisical sample of the entire game.

IF you had a snapshot of ALL servers at a particular time (prime time and off peak times) and place. (the highest and lowest population spots) and of course sampled it over the course of a month to take into account any new and cancel variations, you MIGHT have something to go on. You may also miss out on the portion of the subscribers that may or may not be active at that particular month for whatever personal reasons. Not everyone plays religiously everyday.  There is a reaon no one (reviewers and such) guesses at MMO populations, its almost impossible.

(I was in the Insurance industry for six years, honestly you can make numbers say anything you want)

I would think (base on my experience in sales) that any drop in customers MORE then 20% is considered disasterous. If, lets say worse case, they lost 50% (that is a HUGE amount) that would put them at about  127,000 subs. If a business lost 50% of its sales tramaticly like we think it did, you would see a far greater backlash. (of course, again that depends on the stratagy involved and the expected reaction) They may have planned to lose about 20-30 percent of the base. Someone since then is buying all those new starter kits. The worse of the backlash is far past. From that point on its either mild or vigorous growth. I would assume mild because of the reviews and bad PR. I would also think that they will not make that mistake again.

The bad PR probably had far more impact then the lost subs as it damaged the brand name. That will hinder future growth more then anything. The counter to that is, it is Star Wars and Star Wars sells.

They appear to have been willing to sacrifice the old player base in hopes of attracting a larger player base. Since SWG and SOE appear to be in no eminate danager we will have to assume that it is working to some extent. (again based on whatever plan they had) The "plan" is also not a new one. The decission to go to NGE was made long ago. Probably about the time they started tell you about the CU. The CU was to test  a few things out before they hit the game with the complete revamp.

Was it right? hmmm maybe, maybe not, we will see. Was it fair? Well, the game does belong to them, you have the proper notices, the company IS responsible for making a profit. So, it was fair in terms of business. It sucks for the the current customer but many business decissions usually do.

Admit it Torag see's dead people and your all just jealous, he can see the souls of all our deleted toons from our cancelled subscriptions.

<Sniff> I wish I could see the amazing lag of Coronet one more time, with the 60 - 180 seconds it would take to get my AV21 out on a good day, I wonder if he could check Euro-Chimeara and see if he can see the spirit of the town Spiritwood on Naboo (a RP Town).

I often wonderhow many cities are left on Dant that actually have transport, and if the EZ crowd finally gave up and got a life.

I really do have to ask the question again, with so many people saying there are lots of people playing and having fun, why are people continously asking us to come back?  I have to ask, is SOE offering a referal reward or bonus of some sort?

At least something i can cope with. Skills can be hotkeyed still, you have to go through options with a fine tooth comb and try to fix everything. Graphics and movement are odd, but...whatever.

So, im about to go solo a krayt to see how easy they've made combat. Medic seems fairly close to combat medic of old. But i've only a few hours play, if that, to go on.

A lot of old faces are back so i figure it's six month withdrawl symptoms that we're back.

I'm sorry guys Obraik may have been right, i have a month to decide whether it's worth staying.

I really do have to ask the question again, with so many people saying there are lots of people playing and having fun, why are people continously asking us to come back?  I have to ask, is SOE offering a referal reward or bonus of some sort?

I'm not asking you to come back mate. All posts i see asking that i always assume are SOE devs trying to keep their jobs. All i said is im back and servers have a pulse again. See Chimaera, ive not once had a message that there are no players near when ive done a player search. The numbers seem better than in the few weeks running up to NGE, which since CU we know were way low. I dont like the combat but ive tweaked the game to be as close to the game i remembered. We'll see how the month works out.
Regardless of how i feel about the game, people do seem to be having fun. A lot of players are experiencing the game as you did at first with no idea of what they missed, and are running about enjoying it.
Play or don't play, makes no odds to me.
