I want to get FF XI but...
Hey can someone answer these questions?
- What computer do you need for FF XI?
- Is it monthly pay?
- I heard that FF XI is hard on pc, is it?
- I also heard there were some connection problems, are they?

You don't need a powerfull computer to play FFXI. Last generation Graphics cards are just fine. I have been playing with a P4 2,5 GHz and Radeon 6800 for a long time in 1024x768 resolution. The only time i had problems was in heavy sand storms or blizzards. Weather effects are very detailed and need alot of performance.

It is hard on every Platform. If you are talking about the Interface, yes, it is different to what everyone is used too. There is no graphical Interface. It is all Keyboard and Mouse (although the mouse is pretty useless).
Either buy a Controller or take some time to learn the Keyboard Interface. I still think it has the best Interface although there is none on screen.

FFXI is rock solid. There is a big update/changes every 2 months and small Maintenance whenever pressing issues require it. They usually take 2h to do quick fixes. They can maintenance individual zones if needed. There are no daily reboots like in EQ2 or unscheduled downtimes at all.
There have been some major DOS attack related problems in Autum last year but they have been fixed. I live in europe and it has been 5 or more Months that i could not log in because the server was down unanounced.
Generally i am very impressed by the service.
The cost of three meals at a fast food place or one at a decent but cheap restaurant. Wow. Not to mention almost every other MMORPG out there with a monthly fee (and what decent MMORPG out there doesn't have one?--don't say "Guild Wars", because it isn't an MMORPG) has a higher one.

That's all true except that about GuildWars because it is placed on this site. This is a MMORPG site!

As the old riddle goes: How many legs on dog, if you call a tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one. Putting GuildWars on an MMORPG site doesn't make it one, either.
