So I didn't pay attention to the article of when this first got announced outside of Gamigo thinking they are good enough to have a B2P game. What is 'promised' to do 'differently' in this game that warrants it to be paid for upfront?

I think the game is p2p overseas aka monthly sub. From what I read in China/Taiwan its f2p up to lvl 15 then it's monthly sub.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

    Good to know I guess.

For the question about why b2p?  Welp it's because it wont be sub based here in NA/EU.

From what I read the games isn't designed with p2w in it so I wonder how that's going to translate to a western release.

They can't just make money on players buying time or cosmetics, I'm 100% sure there are some microtransaction convenience items, similar to ArcheAge's Labor system or most Asian MMOs with upgrade system where you can invest real money to ensure the upgrade doesn't break your item.

Apparently there isn't, the game isn't built like that. It's buy time and cosmetics only from what other says that play the china version.
