So is this the Dragonrealms 2 I've been waiting for?

I played dragonrealms a very long time ago. Just read it takes place in the same world. So this has me pretty excited because that game was a lot of fun for a MUD. So......now I read this game is similar to DDO and it's all instanced? I really hope it isn't. Dragonrealms was amazing because of the world you can explore. The new lands that cropped up. I hope this isn't the case. Zoning....hmmm....not too bad as long as each zone is very very big similar to FFXI. Just hope the instancing is just for special items, not for the whole gameplay. This would make me NOT buy this.

Though the whole, part of the Dragonrealms universe is very inticing to me.

This game is not all instanced. This is a complete misconception. There are common areas, and Gamemasters will be adding to them and to the instanced quests all the time.

Also, this is not Dragonrealms 2. For one, this game may take place between Gemstone IV and Dragonrealms. Also, Dragonrealms 2 is already out--it was an engine upgrade for DR. DR just didn't get renamed to DR2.

Agreed.  The idea that Hero's Journey is all about Instancing is a very big misconception.  Are there instances?  Yes, there are...for some storyline quests where you and your party go to finish the task at hand in your own ways.  In a way, these instances are similar to World of Warcraft.  The reason for this is. well, there's no one clearcut way to handle a quest.  Sure, you can go through it and kill everything in sight.  But, you can also be sneaky and skirt around encounters, or use the environment around you to your advantage.  Since each quest is different for each character, there's alot of dynamics inside the quests.  Without going into details...if Joe the Gearknight went on a Quest(instance), his experience would be greatly different than that of  Bob the Rogue.

Aside from that, a large majority of the zones/areas/places are just common areas, where everyone can go.  These include towns, cities, hunt areas, the world in general.

We have many wonderful GM's on board.  Hero's Journey will not be a game of "stand around town, talk to NPC's to get on a quest, then go to the proper instance".  There's much more to it than that.

Good I was hoping to hear that. I don't mind instancing if it's a part of some quest. Though I like to explore a world and just goof off sometimes hunt. Good that makes this game much more inticing. As it not being the next DR2, well after you explained that it made more sense.

Hopefully this game will have solid success. Simutronics has run a excellent MUD based games for years. I now have high hopes for this one. Hope to hear more new out on it. Also, sorry for my ignorance....is there a beta test for it going on or about to happen? If it's open to the public how would someone get into that?

    Thanks folks!

We know that beta is planned for later this year, as to an exact date I don't believe anything is set in stone as of yet. As for how to get into it? We know that current Simutronics game, subscribers get first dibs and thats about all.
