    I've been waiting 20 years to see Diablo 2 look this way. I can't wait. I still play it (Path of Diablo) in it's old form every once in a while. This was a no brainer purchase for me.

    I also agree with the quality of life changes you suggested. Path of Diablo added some QoL changes and it didn't diminish the feel of the game in the slightest.

    That said, I don't recall loosing my stuff when I died... you just click on your corpse and all your stuff is back in place. You can also stack scrolls in books (up to 20). Did they remove books or did you just not know this?

    Great summary. As above stated, you might have missed books to carry scrolls. Regarding the phase being slow, I can agree that it does in the beginning before you have movement speed on boots and more stamina. But late game tends to be super fast. There are some classes like Assassin or tele Sorcerers that are moving insanely fast. Faster than I've moved in PoE.

    For someone who played Diablo 2 A LOT growing up, this is the biggest hype for me coming years. They are nailing the changes and I hope we get to see some QoL stuff to get new people to enjoy it more. But I am definitely looking forward to this more than Diablo 4.

    I'll disagree on those quality of life changes.

    having potions "not" stack means you have to make a choice. Do I take more potions or do I allow for more loot.

    The potions not stacking at first can be seen as a hinderance, but later on during the fight with the Ancients for example on Hell, those spots become super meaningful. (That literally is the only fight your available pots have an impact and really just regulated to specific playstyle (tournaments to be exact).

    In softcore, I get stamina is a bother, but in Hardcore, stamina can mean the difference between an escape and a death.

    With all that said, I'm all for some QOL because this isn't about just players reliving this masterpiece 20 years ago, some of the QOL not being implemented will turn off future fans from the get go. (I would for instance love a separate Charm inventory as the more I play it really is only there to make me go to town more often to sell)

    Path of Diablo did this. They tripled the size of your bag and made the bottom 1/3 usable for charms or loot. It was a nice add.

    Grats Bradford on playing and now having the context for the game that inspired all the other ARPGs that came after D2.

    D3 made a lot of changes to the D2 formula and most of those were about QOL and simplification of the D2 mechanics. Some of those changes were actually good, such as the new way to handle potions and taking them out of the inventory, but overall they over-did it.

    Blizz blew it with D3 and opened the door to a host of D2-inspired ARPGs like Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and many others that kept and expanded on D2's soul with complex character building mechanics and game play.

    I find it totally reasonable that the first thing you did after playing the D2 Alpha was to go back to PoE.

    Diablo 2 was an awesome game, but it had the worst inventory solution of all the diablo games. QoL changes should’ve included a charms inventory and stackable potions and scrolls - it always felt silly to me to constantly manage potions even in end game

    I was late to the Diablo franchise as well Joe. I bought all the original games in boxes (which I still have) but never could get into the isometric ARPGs. Then I fell in love with D3 one day and now I love the genre. Looking forward to this release!

    I thought Diablo 3 was pretty good. It isn't as good as Path of Exile or Grim Dawn but I did play it for quite a while before I found those two other games. I do think leaving out runes and rune words was a mistake and I don't like how class skills are done, but the overall game was polished and fun to play for a bit.

    Diablo 2 was a much better game and would often rather play it with its poor graphics than Diablo 3... or even PoE or GD.

    Looks good, I will be playing it when it comes out for sure. I wish they would have made it so you could have more skills on than screen rather than having to cycle through them to use though. Unless I missed something and you can.



    It has been a long time, but if I recall you could hotkey the skill swap. You still had to cast it with a click, but you could cycle them quite fast with your hotkeys.

    Looking forward to this - recently made a new character myself on D2 LoD. After working my way up to around lvl 90 I'm curious how this might be achieved in D2 Resurrected without the help of bots, especially as much of my gear was found during Baal bot runs in normal and nightmare for instance. I will say that the most fun I had was working up to act 5 by myself - it seems like bots made the leap from nightmare to hell possible within a day after act runs, but then I was stuck with content I couldn't complete.

    Why does the leap from NM to Hell have to be quick?  Go Magic find.  There are a lot of people that play this game single player and have no issue finding gear.   Then again, it comes down to what you want to do with the game and your expectations.

    Honestly having played on battle.net years ago with all the bots/hacks/etc playing that game and single player D2 are two different games.  I'd say relearn the game you thought you knew in a different light to see how to level up a character without the use of players using botting.

    But I do thank you for your insights, I am writing a Battle.net vs Single Player for Pure Diablo and you literally hit the difference in mentality and playstyle 100% perfect thanks!

    Glad that Diablo 2 pretty much kickstarted the genre, but I prefer the later iterations by other companies. By far.  Whatever special sauce (+nostalgia) Blizzard   put in the game, it doesn't work on me.

    Beautiful, innit? D2, SC, WC3, WoW, GW, Morrowind, Dungeon Siege...ah the good ole games!
    With that said, it is heavily dated in a lot of elements. The more you think, the more you notice them. With that said, it is still very satisfying and beautiful to play.
