Good MMO economy?

RichhRichh Member Posts: 28

I played SWG when it first came out, before any expansions,
and I absolutely loved the player run economy and crafting. I’m looking for a MMO
with as close to SWG economy as possible. The resource gathering was genius and
shops were wonderful. Whats out there thats similar?

Eve and Horizons have the best crafting and economy

Tale in the Desert III's crafting is superior to anything I've played and the way its economy works is beutiful aswell. All thats lacking is some player/s starting up  a market place.(as its all barter based trade)

Free trials for lots of games

Tale in the Desert III is in beta and can be tested for free

I too loved SWG crafting at launch it was truely unique .One very bad point it had was with all the duping and the fact u had to get resources that spawned many moons ago to be competitive meant only the older crafters in most fields had the market.

I was on chilastra and can honestly say at one period in the game about 5 of us weaponsmith had a majority of the whole market. You just had to look to see that nearly everyone had one of 5 brands weilded.

For me ofc at that point i was pretty happy with that but after leaving i actually realised it must have be a living nightmare for new weaponsmith to stand up to us that started on server launch and had best of every resource that ever spawned.

Game crafting  i found most rewarding after SWG was EQ2.It has depth, there was no duping(at least nothing i ever saw or reflected on the economy),the made tems are in high demand.

It had a hit last expansion with crafting dumbed down and made items becoming less useful post 60 but they seems to have woken to this fact and plan a major revamp in the upcoming expansion.

Does Eve suffer from the same problem where veterans have a major advantage over newbies?

One thing I dislike about EQ2 is that they like to release expansions every few months and it makes it too expensive to keep up with all the new content.
Do any of these games have things like Harvesters and Factories similar to SWG, Im more of a casual player and loved setting up harvesters to gather all the supplies for me cutting back on alot of grind time.

yeah i gotta repeat the same thing... *sigh*

Isn't it close to 'unnatural' should 'veterans' have minor advantages over newbies o.O? Because if it is a problem, well I'd deduce the problem would be a terminal paradox in ALL MMORPGs in existence?

Well I would think so, but Eve skills are based on time in or out of game so you really need to play it a long time to build those.

Im sorry, allow me to rephrase. I completely understand and agree that vets should have an advantage over newbies, perhaps I should have elaborated more on my question. What I would really like to know, is it very difficult for a newbie to set up his own market and sell lower quality goods? Is there a damand for lowbie crafted goods or are people only looking for the stuff that the veterans are making. From experience with other MMO's once a game has been around for a year or more most of the community is only after the top end game items. Stuff only veterans can produce making it almost impossable to ever catch up or attract a smaller market.

Ahh  Thanks for clarifying that. Now I extend my apologies too if my previous post caused certain discomfort.

But still, it'd be hard to point any other MMOs that can emulate SWG's in-game economic appeal as you might've hope?

For resource gathering, I heard Goonzu Online is pretty good. But I won't say the same thing about it's grafx dept. though...
