Never Played Horizons, and when i first bought FFXI i was dissapointed. But, I was bored the other night (been playing Anarchy Online too long!) and reinstalled FFXI and Bought a Controller,  They should have made a game controller a requirement, the game is sooooooooo much more playable with a Controller.

I can't offer insight on Horizons I would like to try it, but can not see spending another $50.00 for another Carbon Copy Game in Disguise.  To me, all these MMOs of late are all the same... Horizon's looks good but offers nothing new, I've heard it's the same crafting system as SWG (which get old REAL fast).  And the rest of the game is an EQ/DAoC Hybrid.  (which neither of those games are very appealing any more)

So my thoughts, FFXI is different that's for sure, but it depends on what you're into.   Give FFXI a try, you either love it or hate it.  After getting a controller and more of a feel for the game (plus being a Tarutaru rocks!)  I have come to like it, (never as much as Pre UO:R, or Anarchy Online)  but it's all in all a good game.

FFXI is a much more stable game than horizons. The controls were horrible the first few days but after that, you'll know it like the back of your hand. Theres constantly things to do in FFXI and if you like exploring and doing different things, than JUST killing, give this one a try.

Final Fantasy XI rocks if you like fighting in groups, and the keyboard control are not that bad, I wonder how you can do macro with a Controller, but who knows, I might buy one and try soon.

I wrote a few ini. files to make me be able to say "I am looking for a group" and "Can I get some assistance please?" I also have "Stop, you are in my camp." in Japanese.image If you want the scripts I could send em' to ya.

I haven't actually played Horizons, but one of my friend does. I've seen him play it a few times and he's told me Horizons has an excellent crafting system and the ability to actually play a dragon, but other than that there's not too much to do. He switched back to FFXI as soon as his free trail period of Horizons expired. I've only played FFXI for a few months, and I have enjoyed it the whole time (with a few moments for fustration when grouping). I've looked at Horizon's game reveiw on other sites as well as FFXI and it seems that FFXI is the more liked game. Hope I helped a little. TTyL TTFN!

Only reason I would even try Horizons is to play a dragon, but other then that, I don't see anything pulling me away from FFXI anytime soon. It's the best mmorpg I've ever seen, and I've already played UO, EQ, DAoC, AC, AC2, AO, E&B, RO, Mu, and a couple others not even worth a mention. I would definitely give FFXI a try, while Horizons just isn't pulling me in yet...

I'd say FFXI.  Horizons gets real old real fast.

They both have cookie cutter classes, which I hate but FFXI requires more talent and less time consuming and more rewarding trades. It is alot easier to fish than to level up your weaponcrafting on HZ. Trust me. Plus fish can be SOLD! Thats right, SOLD! FOR PROFITS! Beat that HZ ;)

It's alot of fun to see the different combinations of classes each time you group which is pretty interesting. Learning to co-operate with one another. Wether you work together or not determines how sucessful your whole group will be. There's constantly things to work towards and places to go, people to see. It turned most of my MMORPG experiences like DAoC from a levelling treadmill, to a whole world of things to do.

I must say I personaly found it a little Hard to get anywhere in FFXI, I dont mind a challenge but there comes to a point in FFXI where I found it very hard to level because I was not getting enough experience. Also in FFXI if you dont have a group it can get VERY hard, sometimes trying to find a group can take up to about half an hour. The quests are cool but get hard way to fast not enough low level quests Id say. I was a warrior tho trying to play as melle I messed up and that may have made the game extremly hard for me. I am going to try out Horizons very soon here and see if I like it or not (of course Ill be the dragon) =-)... I do advise you to Try FFXI tho it is a very good game, but if you dont have any friends you know playing it and you cant find a party it can be hard. So if you dont have friends playing it try it with descrepency from my point of view (it is very easy to make friends int he game tho). But if you got friends playing it... IM STLL WONDERING WHY YOU HAVNT BOUGHT IT YET.

Well having played both I would say FFXI.

FFXI has better graphics, economy, stability and content. The one thing I dont like in FFXI is the forced grouping. But in Horizons it is the opposite problem, no one ever groups. In Horizons you can level your way easier than you can in a group so no one groups. If you dont have a lot of time to play then I would say go with Horizons. But if you dont mind slow progression then without a doubt FFXI is the better game.

I don't know why ppl craying against forced grouping, isnt playing with other people the fun in MMORPGs (and all online games)?

Yes but that takes time to gather a group, and people who log in that only have 30 minutes to play just want to be able to solo wherever they are and actually get GOOD exp for it.

I know if i can only play for about half an hour to 45 minutes i don't even bother to log into the game. Although if your a WHM everything changes, you can get a group really fast.

    hmm thats a hard question

I heard Horizons had a shakey start....but I never played it so I really dont know.  At the same time I would not recommend spending 50 bucks on FFXI either.

Have you thought about other mmorpgs?

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Horizons is a less taxing game, but has more bugs.

FFXI is a huge repeating treadmill that is more stable.

I say play something old until something else comes out or Horizons gets over the release bump 90% of all games have.  You have to like FFXI for what it is because it isn't going to change.  I beta tested Horizons and closed my FFXI account yesterday.

    holla!

FF XI is bad but not that bad. Horizons is a terrible game.

  • ramadinramadin Member Posts: 1,304
Horizons is much better.  Graphics are better, crafting is better...  FFXI graphics look like my daughters toys.  UI is definitely much better in HZ.  They got off to a bad start and things are looking much better these days, fun to play.  and many cool updates comin down the pipe.
