Im dying for a good shooter right now and never knew this game released. I played Planetside and enjoyed it up until Sony destroyed by releasing Expansions. My enjoyment was mainly because of the high team strategy and constant fight and just generally good gameplay.
First I was wondering if anyone that is playing WWIIO currently has played Planetside First Release when the battles were insane. Would like to know if that type of fending off a relentless enemy while trying to advance gameplay is goin on in this one? Also if the teamplay and amount of players online are at any decent level?
Second, this sounds like a massive game map. Am I gonna spend an hour just trying to find another player (friendly/enemy) or are the objectives good enough to keep the battle covering the map?
Dont normally ask all this but I would hate to start another pay-to-play to find out it sucks. Would be the 5th MMO in 2 months to get shelved and I am either bored of or dissappointed in most of the FPS's out there currently.
Thanks All

I've never played PS, but I found this pervious post about this same subject.
In WWIIOL, travel time to combat is quick. In some situations, you can get out of the spawn point into a fire fight, or spawn in at a mobile spawn point and jog/sprint to the front line in a few minutes. If you are not paying attention, you could pick the wrong mission and spawn miles from the front. I think a few new people do this and get the impression that they need to walk all that way. You don't, just respawn some place else.
If for any reason you join an attack mission and there isn't any MSPs up yet, you can always ride in a truck or on a tank to the front lines (assuming there are those available). But be careful, if enemy infantry are in the woods watching the approaching tank/truck they could just pick you off. (i.e. death from unknown source)
There is only 1 game world, one map and everyone plays for domination of Western Europe. The campaign that is being played right now is well into it's 5th week and the front lines are still in the middle of the map. The british troops made a good push in the north sector last weekend and still hold there gains. The germans still occupy parts of france from a push made 3 weeks ago. Most towns on the front are destroyed/ruined because of the constant battles and change of ownership.
The equipment that is currently in game is 1942 stuff (Tiger tank, british Churchill mk7, FW190a4, Spitfire mk9 ...etc). At the begining of every campaign the equipment is 1939/1940 stuff and new equipment gets researched on a weekly basis.

This game takes patience to learn, also to develop a good foundation with fellow players.
Be prepared to be both frustrated and overjoyed.
And remember nothing beats taking out a tank with a sapper..:)
Tried this game. In my first minute of playing I was killed.
Worst part; we're not going to tell you what killed you, only that 'you died'. I was inside the army base (at Paal, later invaded by the Axis and I was on a defence mission at time) testing my controls and seeing the area, when I just died. Saw no soldiers,so I presume it was either a tank or a plane bomb.
Well,I'd like to know what killed me,thanks.
That kind of put me off it,but I did manage to survive long enough on my respawn to see some guy perched on a rooftop. Then I quit game.
Despite the initial quick death,I am very impressed by the scale of the game. A very large PvP map, biased war reports on the front page.....a lot of good effort has been put into this. I will continue to try it out, although I'd like to live enough to see some action on my second go at it!
Word of advice: 1-hit kills seem to happen here.
One-shot kill is legio in WWIIOL, just as in real life. The human body is quite fragile you know. It can't take as much damage as it does in most fantasygames like BF, CoD MoH et al.
WWIIOL aim to be the most historical and physical accurate WWII game you can find, hence you will die alot. And as in real death moments, you seldom understand what took you out, hence you gets no feedback so you can't report back to your friends what happend as much as you would like to do (experienced players can in most cases figure out pretty well what killed them).
Thanks All,
Appreciate the good feedback. I purchased and played the game last night and I can say that this is the first game that I can't make a decision about after the first night of play. I hit 2 people, killed none and died 4 times and barely saw any fighting at all except the air battles above me and at one point i was hangin around some tanks laying into a town. Looks like I will have to give this game a week or so for training and to rank up a bit and see how it goes from there. It has intrigued me enough to miss it while I am here at work though.
Thanks Again

The main problem with this game is that it kills the fun in all the other games. I have tired BF, Doom3, CoD and so on, and I get quite bored very quickly. It is a matter of a few hours as in the case with BF or a few days as the case with Doom.
Only Hearts of Iron keept me play for a couple of weeks. Hmmm....!
But I guess WWII Online will claim most of the fun from HoI soon enough now when physical placed Brigades and Division is in game. Later will we see a numbers of Korps to be added as physical units in the game as well.
ChimpLo, try to find a good group of people and hang with them. The vast majority of the community is very nice and helpfull. We all know how difficult it was in the beginning, and we all still dies alot.
WWII Online is a very equal game. Every one can kill ever one if you know how to do it. Of course an infantry can not kill a tank unless it is a Sapper/Engineer. And to kill a tank with a satchel must you know exactly where to place the satchel on the tank (the sweetspot) or the satchel will have no other effect then you will let the tanker to know you are within a few meters to him.
I myself prefer the rifle when I play infantry which I do the most atm. And the Rifle is the so called rookie weapon. The German rifle is deadly up to 1000 meter (as in real life) if you can handle it appropriately, and the target will have no clue who shot him or from where I can garantee.
1: when you were being shot at, what did it sound like? was it a heavy machine gun sound or single shots? were the shots fairly quiet, or loud?
If they were single shots, and loud, it was a rifle or sniper, if they were quiet, somone with a revolver/luger did it.
If it was machine gun fire and was light, it was a lmg, and if it was heavy, a smg. IF on your death cam you saw orange beams coming to your corpse, it was a tanks machine gun
2: if you got bombed or 'naded and it was a small distance away, your screen will shake, and you will hear a "beeeeeep" thats concussion view. if the bomb/nade hit you, you will beep for a bit, then fall down dead.
3: Chances are unlikely if your inf, but there is a small chance of getting strafed by a plane. with tanks its a lot more common
in a large city, always keep moving, if theres a sniper, he will miss, if you find your going to slow, hold shift, its sprit, took me a while to find why people were going faster than me :P if you still dont know why your dieing, I can try help you, but im a newbie too
Hey ChimpLo,
I was looking at your stats for WWIIOL
http://events.wwiionline.com/scripts/services/personas.jsp?mid=1079109
and I notice that you had an hour long mission that started in Brussels and you captured a flag in Leige. What was that mission about? Did you get a ride in a transport or something because those 2 towns are a long ways apart? Since that mission ended with you getting a KIA and no killers were listed, that tells me you stepped in front of a AI MG nest. Do you remember any details on that mission? I'm just curious.
Also, I notice that you never found a good fight to be in. Well next time you are on, look for a town under german attack and find the missions to defend that town. That will give you instant action and you'll get to run around a lot.

I'm wanting to try the trial, but stuck between this and Face of Mankind (wierd choice, I know).
It's one of the most confusing games to get your head around that is for sure. Here are a few websites that will help you out incredibly.
http://www.battlegroundwiki.info/ < my site on game rules etc
http://www.battlegroundtools.com/ < Fogobans website about the game (Use IE if you want to hear the vehicle sounds)
http://www.thetrainer.info/ < Will teach you loads about the user interface and how to kill tanks with infantrymen
Hard and fast rules to get you started
#1 : Keep your head down
#2 : Take defence missions to start with where there are orange icons (infantry/armour) around the town
#3 : Once you get a kill, despawn for RTB (Return To Base), only way to rank up quickly
#4 : Find a squad in your time zone (Ask on the Target Channel (F2 key)
#5 : Never be afraid of asking questions if you do not understand
Life can be tapped
I have been ingame for 2 days so far. I didn't like the "balancing" of Axis. Looks like Allies are very tank-heavy and Axis lack any sensible AT-capability. Of course two major battles i was in were already lost by the time i joined (i had that stalingrad feeling being overrun by waves of infantry and 20+ tanks). I managed to kill 3 enemy soldiers, and got killed 18 times (mostly running from barracks to bunker dodging bullets from 2 tanks parked to cap the spawn point).
I will stick with allies for time being so my noobish skills will help to balance the game.
try the 88 on axis side, it is the best at gun in the game. the allieds had at the beginning of the war the heaviest tanks and most chars, mathildas were killed by 88 only. you have not much chances with a pIII only later tier tanks, starts with p3h can damage or kill em.
but allies side is nice to play too, so why not playing allied hehe
