if you notice the distant second to warhammer on the hype list is 5 points under warhammer ... there is no greater gap on the game list whether it be new games or up and coming games ....
i think this is a great and accurate measurement of the future of warhammer's success
Comments
Wahammer will be succesful for many reasons all of them i cannot list here but heres a few
those are just three reasons there are so many more...
I'll add to the list....
bars that allow you to select "packages" of advancements - abilities,
static buffs, skills, etc. that you want to work on. Three will be
"standard" bars, one will be RvR-specific.
The packages allow you to select advancements that interest you without
level-locking them. So, if you're a big fan of exploring and you want
to get a mount earlier than - say - an improved combat ability, you can
choose a package that includes the ability to use a mount. Packages
will have SOME restrictions - most likely tier-specific - but they
offer players the ability to wind up with all of the stuff they want
eventually, but also the ability to get it in the order of their
choosing.
magic, offensive magic? Or will it vary from faction to faction?
Absolutely not. We are 100% married to the IP when it comes to stuff
like this. Dwarfs and magic don't mix, so the closest you'll get to a
magic class will be a priest carving runes into things. And I can't say
this enough - EVERY class will be a combat class. Nobody will be
running around, healing all day long and trying to stay out of the fray.
Current plan: Don't get much sleep at night, lie awake fixated on making it all work.
Seriously, though, RvR combat will come in three flavors:
Skirmish RvR - players stumbling across enemy players in RvR areas and fighting right then and there.
Battlefields - Static, objective-based areas (take objective in
question, plant flag, etc) that help to focus skirmish RvR a bit.
Scenarios - Instanced, point-balanced, objective-based "arenas." This
is our closest cousin to Fantasy Battle. All players will be worth a
certain number of points based on a
"we're-not-discussing-how-at-the-moment" set of stats. Players will be
matched up evenly and groups with fewer points will be bolstered by NPC
"Dogs of War." Dogs of War will be - obviously - worth less than their
PC counterparts, but they'll allow us to avoid long queues AND one side
constantly enjoying a slight but significant advantage due to
population wierdness.
Finally, we're relying on an extensive, year+ long beta, coupled with
everything (good, bad and otherwise) that we've learned from Camelot.
Fully-realized PvE is absolutely going to be there. Players don't ever
need to set foot in any RvR zone in order to move through all four
tiers. And vice-versa.
By offering full-blown PvE and RvR in every tier, we hope to make the
process essentially painless for most players. Nothing depresses our
world designers more than the idea that people might blow through 80%
of the stuff they hand-craft with love and disturbingly intense
affection to get to the last portion of the game.

Sorry for not linky, this forum hates me.
Did anyone mention that they actually seem to be trying to make a fun, hmm, what's that last thing in MMORPG stand for again? Because when they make comments like
It just seems so different than the philosophy going into other games. And I agree that you can't repeat
enough

Mythic really has NAILED the concept with WAR. Full time RvR, and an interesting story line with diverse quests that actually mean something is taking the best of MMO's so far, rolling them into one game, and making them better. SOLID. Concept.
I just hope they take the time to make sure the actual mechanics are as solid as the story. Things like skill selection, movement, and how they use crowd control, are pretty critical even with such a strong foundation. From what I've read though, their morale system is looking strong, and they appear to be on the right track. Way ahead of the game even.
Yeah, they seem to have the right attitude towards making the game, looking at 'how can we make this fun and interesting for players' instead of 'how big of a time sink can we add'. It remains to be seen whether they really do it in practice though - Blizzard, for example, had lots and lots of comments about WOW that really don't describe what the game has actually become. I'll be very annoyed if it turns out to be all hype.
I just hope it's not all hype.
This game is oh so very sexy sounding, and I'll be one of many jumping any ship to come to this game. This game is going to tear the pleasure center out of your skull, chew it up, and spit it back in.
You buy the game, install, log on, create your character and BAM if you want to you can start PvPing, you'll even advance that way and pick up drops from killed players (not their stuff, but you get a drop). You don't have to bother with PvE ever if you didn't want to.
Fortunately I can play Auto Assault while I wait. I say that because AA is fun but I will probably be "done" with it by the time WHO comes out. So it works out in two ways.
The game is a beacon of hope for those that want to play it and a symbol of what PvP should be, I just hope that in the end they get the PvP and the PvE right, not everyone wants to go and fight another player every day, some people know they suck at PvP and just want to stay clear, they said you can do this and for those people they can PvE and still affect how the major battles front line go.
Mythic MUST get this right for W.A.R to work.

Dummy you just made my day i didn't even know that...
this may be true but it would be VERY UNWISE to alienate the PVE crowd many players enjoy a good PVE game with loads of rich content ..
and i think WARHAMMER will deliver the pVE too .. with all the controversy in the MMO genre these days .. i dont think devs will miss the signs ... they've probably been paying attention and will use the failings of others ( SOE, sigil, blizzard, ect ) to create a new standard which will cater to all player types ...
not to say these companies bitched up everything .. but each has its own failings ..
soe with its screwed up and buddy and rushed patches, and its inability to decipher what its customers wanted, and the lack of any RICH PVE content
sigil making too much of a niche game then turning its niche base off with its bad decision to go SOE, and its almost too slow approach at developing
and blizzard with its developing arrogance and inability to keep the content in WOW fresh, and also the meaningless pvp and pve at higher levels
I may slay some humies too. Blood for the blood god & all.
