The last time I particularly cared about a game trailer? I think it was never. The supremum of an empty set is negative infinity, right?
It's not just that I don't care about game trailers. I don't understand why anyone else would care about them. Presumably someone does or else companies would stop making them. Maybe it's the same people who throw huge amounts of money at those awful mobile "games", which is something else that I don't understand.

Like you, I don't "get" game trailers, though I do watch movie trailers regularly.
I think the difference is movie trailers usually tell me something about the movie that I didn't know to help me determine whether or not to watch while game trailers rarely provide new information which I'm not already aware of and play almost no part in my decision.

I remember that, that trailer was awesome. Too bad the game wasn't as cool. Some of the stories were ok though.
Agreed, most of the stories were fine, but after seeing that trailer, that's what I thought they should have done with Star Wars....that's a movie that I would have loved to have seen. (Especially when it came out, the last movies were the prequels that darn near killed it for me....) I wish Bioware had made an Old Republic movie rather than the game....
All the time honestly speaking even the crappy games often have good trailers. For example the annoying Paladins pop up I'm getting right now at the bottom of my screen.
I never watch movie trailers, they give the movie away, cinematic trailers are beautiful. Starcraft 2, diablo, ESO, league of legends have excellent trailers.
There was a company in culver city that made many cinematics. Called blur. They make excellent cinematics.

By the release of this trailer the first wave of MMORPGs had run their course, and the second wave had proven subpar at best. Had it not been for WoW in 2004, the MMORPG genre was already caught circling a downward spiral.
WoW revitalized the genre in many ways, and inspired a whole slew of..........subpar clones.
OK so before i realized that mmo trailers were nothing like the game i would say Earth & Beyond and Wow. Now i just look at them as mini movies. Been enjoying all the ESO trailers lately. I love that Elf woman.

The same. I love watching the good CGI ones, they are like mini movies....that have zero to do with gameplay
So, get me excited for a game? Naw, not gonna happen, I look at actual in game video's and playthrough's to see if a game is worth my time.
Trailers, for the amount of money they spend to make them, are a not worth it for me. But obviously, since they get bigger and spend more cash on them, there has to be a target audience out there it would seem.
Just look at Star Citizen.... they make trailers all the time and look at the amount of money they generate. Seems to be the ultimate generator of something to SC.

The difference is that a movie is fundamentally about watching a video. Watching a movie trailer is substantially similar to watching a movie. MMORPGs are not fundamentally about watching a video, so watching an MMORPG trailer is not substantially similar to playing an MMORPG.

I think we'd see how well movie trailers did if they didn't show the main characters or distorted the actors face/voice. Movie trailers tend to at least give some impression about the actual movie and it's story; game trailers, it's anybody's guess. Imagine a Batman trailer that only gave you a Fast&Furious vibe.
