This is a cool gesture, sure, but if such event of giving away 7-years-old pieces of content needs coverage, it speaks for itself for this game. I mean, I wish the best for this game since it used to be my favourite time-sink a year or two ago and it was a fun and engaging ride alongside the storyline and some newly met internet friends, also with unlocking mounts and doing some events/pvp. Yet, it's saddening to watch this title being murdered over and over again by a lack of developer's passion and funds, instead pushing out more irrelevant shit or cool looking skins locked behind gems (which You can of course grind with ingame money, but still).

I've already buried my hopes of End of Dragons to bring anything fresh to the older content and it will be probably another one-time rush with no replayability purpose other than to farm another stupid currencies for no reason.

I really don't understand the publisher's logic behind all of this. I know the title is f2p, but so much of a wasted potential it pains me to even think about it.

*flash back not so long ago* before this new comment service was added and new staff came. This site did nothing but promote this game. Titles like "wow killer" and any.. . Any critic to this game no matter how fact based got us a perma life ban. I got three accounts here in perma ban from back then. Now it's my turn *does the I told you so with my alpha pc gamer brainme* In the voice of that Simpson character, *points* and "HA HA".

Nice I didn't have the story for season 2  and 3 unlocked so this will be handy as long as I don't forget to log in.

When you buy the expansion it unlocks all the expansions stuff except the living world story stuff which you have to buy from the shop IF you did not log in when it initially went live.

Basically the living world story stuff you have to log in to get it free when it goes live when it initially releases.

For season 2 if you logged in for chapter one you have it unlocked permanently however when chapter 2 went live if you did not and it went to chapter 3 then ch 2 will stay locked for you even though you may have logged in and unlocked ch 3 when that went live.

This time around it seems to be scrolls you get in the mail which unlock the chapters when you take them from the mail box.

The negativity I am seeing in these comments over a good move by GW2 to actually give something away reminds me of one thing... I like MMORPGs still, it's the community that plays them that's off putting.

Unfortunately it seems to be the norm now a days that people always find a way to twist even good intentions.

You wonder why developers dont wanna touch MMOs? Because they know they will get nothing but flack for their effort.

People should be ashamed of how entitled they've become.

I mean...if You wish to receive shabby content, You are 100% entitled to do so and even pay for it, noone's holding back ;) It's like if someone's spitting at You and yet You say it's raining. Games are just getting worse and lazy in design, regardless of the mmo we are talking about.

I just don't see a reason to force unnecessary positivity towards people/companies, whose actions blatantly prove me they don't deserve my money/respect anymore.
I paid for GW2's content, enjoyed it to some extent, but i still can see the slopy path aNet is marching, and if criticizing that should make me feel ashamed, then y'all are just clowns
And i'm not even talking about LWS2 giveaway, if anyone couldn't notice that. This is a cool move, yet doesn't make the situation any better for their future.

EQ2 has been giving away the entire game for free except the newest expansion.

The way Anet operates it's business model is imo very lame.

They try and hook you in full time or you have to pay for the LW dlcs. They have a VERY heavy cash shop and THAT is the reason, they want to hook you in to spending.

buy b4 gone is their model, like buying a mount in the cash shop,it is a very simple lame tactic.Speaking of mounts, what is the point of jump puzzles with mounts lmao,a very idiotic developer.

You really do need to buy the expansions,so this is a half assed move by Anet, like i said just a lame gimmick. They COULD just give you all the LW content right now but no they are releasing in sections again so you need to unlock each one, again to hook you in hopes you spend in the gem shop and of course get you invested to buy the expansions which you'll need anyhow.

A cash shop is a very simple HELL NO from me,you can take your cash shop game and shove it.Otherwise just play the less gimmicky tactic business model of EQ2 and get all the stuff for free anytime you want and imo it is a better game anyhow.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

it's nice they are giving them to hype the upcoming expansion, but you can also buy LS chapters with in game gold. Each chapter is 200 gems which exchanges for about 67 gold right now.

You still need to buy the expansions themselves to access it.

    How generous of ArenaNet. lol

Naturally, you are not going to do post expansion story (that is tied to the expansion itself) without doing the expansion story. It's like buying all Harry Potter books and only reading the last one.

dude, you can buy everything in the cash shop with in game gold. You wont find a more generous cash shop. Sure it has a lot of stuff for sale, but It almost feels like ANET doesn't want to make money. Everquest still, as far as i'm aware, has free to play restrictions that require subscription so it's not even the same business model.

This is hilarious to me, as this was why Mounts Packs were like 50 dollars in gems at one point, because they needed to find a way to stop the hardcore gamers from just getting everything from the gem exchange and needed to make real money.

MO even came out and admitted this.

I will admit, it often does feel like they are trying to find a way to kill their own company at this point, or at least demotivate anyone from spending money on content.

For anyone fussing about this, it's not a money grab to placate some old bitter gamers or to deal with their existing player base that already has these chapters, which, no doubt, they got for free years ago when they were actively playing the game.

It's purely a move to try and pull in new people who don't have sticks up their asses, and no doubt when End of Dragons launches, it will have a optional bundle that will include PoF and HoT, so they are giving away the LS packs, to hype up new players into the game, to take advantage of this deal, and removing the feeling of needing to back buy the LS stories.

IMHO, this is not some noble charitable move by them, they are a for profit company, so I hope they have a plan in place to have this make some kind of profit for them, but given a lot of their previous blunders and screw ups that damn near killed their company, who knows what they are thinking.

To be fair, Guild Wars 2 base game is free AND has no monthly subscription (if comparing to EQ 2 or any other major MMO out now) which is surprisingly generous. Of course they have to entice people to buy stories etc. but it is not needed for the amount of gameplay content available. I would say they are pretty generous giving this story again and of course they want people to buy the new expansion, how do they thrive?

Yes but that's a waste of gold when you have many characters that need good weapons which requires...lots of gold.

You should also mention so people understand properly that gems are the in game currency you buy with real life money. Also pure f2p account cant use the coin to gem exchange.

Point is that's a whole lots of gold to unlock a whole season which frankly has always been a stupid move on their part...these living world stories should be free to people that bought the expansion period.

I like the game but their cash shop model kind of sucks tbh compared to other cash shop models.

Lets be clear here a purely f2p account has lots of restriction which are quite onerous.  It's more like a free trial and if you like it you need to at least buy one expansion to become a paid account to get rid of those restrictions.  Myself I bought and had a core game account before it ever went f2p and also have all the expansions except for this new one coming out.

GW2 is essentially b2p with a cash shop so making peeps that bought all the expansion have to pay more for LW stories because they were on break from the game is sucky and lame and shouldn't be needed.

IF LW stories is the only thing keeping them afloat financially then there a huge problem in the monetization scheme in that shit is just too expensive for certain things.

Wont even get into the black lion loot boxes....

You will need to define good on that one.

I mean, ideally, exotics are good enough for end game, which includes, Dungeons, Raids, Open World/World Exploration, World Bosses, T1 Fractals, and WvW, the only thing they fail at is T2 and above fractals, which require AR, which is unique to Ascended.

Most of your Characters overall power/damage output comes from running meta traits, with your gear only providing something like a 1% variance in overall power from Exotic to Ascended.

So if you just wanted Good and not Best, that is dirt cheap and easy to come by in GW2.
