Better than what I thought it would be. But like the title of the article says, it might be good. Guess we will find out next month if they release.

    I miss DAoC

doesnt sound as tho they actually did anything crafting wise except show a crafting building and explain how the system is slated to work. <shrug> Honestly I dont think it said much about the whole game at all that isnt already known. Empty land, empty buildings, complicated dragon start, and alot of words of what you 'will be able to do'. This game isnt ready for the less than two week release any more than it was 2 years ago.

**kinda neat how she used the train (as in train wreck) as her inspiration

They convinced that its worth checking out.

    Finial words:

    Quote:
The graphics are decent, the weather incredible, but the gameplay appears to be tailored to those willing to spend time learning a complex system.   An incredibly built tutorial might save them.   If you are looking for a bold, unusual, ginormous MMO, be sure to pick up Dark and Light when it's released on May 30th.

Reading here and on some other ( un offical forums ) everyone mention that graphics completly sux and its like 7 years outdated.

And this is why Iam interested in it, couse I dont want to play wow , eq 2 games where there is realy nothing complex in it.

Iam looking for unusal game and will risk possibility of complete failure.

Yes, but the proper analogy here is, WoW is a room with some toys in it and DnL is an empty room.  You are saying it is more "complex" tying to find ways to have fun in the empty room.  Either way, if there are toys there or not, you don't have to play with them.  But if you are in the empty room, you don't have much choice.  This argument is reminding me of the silliness of people who think that "challenging" = "Time Sink".

Yes, first, who are they marketing this game to? François explained that they were reaching for a broad range of players who like combat, crafting, and a complex hierarchy system.

No mention that it is not solo friendly - so the "wide range" consists of those who wish to be grouped, who wish to be forced to join an uber guild and have a best friend as a brotherhood leader in which you are forced to rely on others/guild/brotherhood progress and good graces due to the systems that are to be implemented (who knows when) . By those "features" alone, this is then directed to a niche group of players.

First, with such a massive size world, were they going to be able to populate it all with content? The example that came to mind was the launch of Horizons, where there were a few areas missing content.  Second, 213 cities?!  I’m thinking that would overwhelm even the most veteran player.   The Little Engine was starting to struggle under the load

Obviously with less than two weeks to release and showing off at the biggest trade show there is, Farlan deemed that writers/journalist/reviewers do not need to see the content -- there isnt any to show at this point and hasnt been in the 6 month beta SOG-- they promise to the ppl who paid however that there will so much it will make your head spin but none of it was/will be tested first.

The first thing we were shown was a player fortress and a typical siege against it.  I saw there were defensive towers firing at the opposition but other than that, it was difficult to figure out what was going on.  Everything was done fairly quickly, and ended with flashy goodness

Obviously not a full scale production - what she didnt see is that if they added a few more ppl, the crashes would have ended it even sooner.

If you like to micromanage skills and prefer numerous paths, this is for you.  The Little Engine had just about stopped in my mind.

    Confusing and complex. nice touch.

François took us to a typical village and showed us the architecture.   I asked if the cities were individually-created or used a random-type placement.   I don’t think I was clear with my question

Baffle them with bs, dazzle them with brillance? Or is this again, the "language barrier" excuse?

We had seen a ton of buildings, so I had to know; do they do anything?   I was told they are empty and for aesthetic purposes, with the exception of the crafting building.  Empty buildings make for an empty town in my opinion.

maybe you can use them to sort through, catagorize, file, and load into your mini computer all the spells and skills supposedly available to you and see if the mini computer can figure it out for you.

The most popular among the players is the dragon, so with a little difficulty, one was spawned and we were airborne.   Shortly into the flight, I was told the dragon was “flying too slowly,” so if you are buying one, stay away from the blue-colored one.

Gee , you think it may have that spawning the dragon without crashing was the difficulty? I hope he moved somewhere out in the open with no one around in order to spawn the dragon for the interviewer. And gasp! The dragon was too slow-- damn those beta testers! The adored dragon flight was even messed up. Guess that proves all the buggy issues have been fixed now dont it?

Objects are created using resources from NPC’s, magic ingredients dropped by monsters, and recipes purchased.  Certain crafting requires a city be under the correct alignment in order to be successful.   The Little Engine was now stopped and on fire, with people jumping off screaming “AHHHHHHH!!!!!”

Once again, baffle them with bs when you havent a clue what you are doing. Its obvious however the writer wasnt actually shown the actual crafting itself. Showed her alot of skills to be available at some point in the game, who knows when but it would seem that the all get-out wish list of all other mmo's in one spot is just not a very good idea.

This Little Engine has incredible potential, but seems to be trying to fill huge expectations.  The graphics are decent, the weather incredible, but the gameplay appears to be tailored to those willing to spend time learning a complex system.   An incredibly built tutorial might save them

Ouch, theres that word again, Potential. However from the writers point of view, the game will not meet its own expectations. And we all know that the manual promised for SOG never was birthed from the game devs but from the fans themselves, now imagine this game when the fans will be the ones providing the incredibly built manual and the "tutorial" the game has thus far produced. It MIGHT save the game. Again, the game obviously has not met with a grand review and all the bells and whistles from a reviewer that is needed for a game as big as this. WIthout players, there will be no world, just a big empty, dont fly on the blue dragon , glorified chat room. It certainly appears this game has not, can not and will not meet its own expectations.
