Aion Classic's Monetization After Just One Day Already Brings Pay To Win Concerns | MMORPG.com

imageAion Classic's Monetization After Just One Day Already Brings Pay To Win Concerns | MMORPG.com

AION Classic has been out for one day, and despite that it seems as though NCSoft will have its hands full trying to assure current players that its monetization model doesn't inspire pay-to-win comparisons. This is due to the way its currently being handled, especially as players can spend money for in-game items to then sell for in-game currency.

Does anyone THINK they brought this game back to give you a BETTER...improved gaming experience?
There is only ONE thing happening within gaming now a days>>>monetization,NOBODY,not one single studio cares about quality of gaming or improving the games, they care about finding ways to grind money from gamers.
A game should NEVER have ANY outside influence,IDC how you word it ,just NO.So this studio can join the rest as a trashy scummy studio/publisher.

The reason i think gaming got to this real low down and dirty stage in the gaming archives is because the market is too flooded with too many games all doing the same thing.

So of course the crap games needed a way to entice gamers >>F2p c/mon it's free but of course they never are free and have a whole plethora of ways for you to spend your money. There is simply not enough gamers to go around so by offering the free entry allows all those other gamers that might be financially tied up in others games the chance to enter and then the magic wand waves to bait you into spending.

The way it is supposed to work, is that a game earns money because it is good. Another game fails because it is bad. Designers are therefore supposed to strive to make good games.

Advertising, spin, and outright lying change this equation. Now the game with the best spin earns the most money. Designers strive to make a game quickly and cheaply, and with just enough features to qualify as a game. Then spin and advertise the hell out of it to make quick money. Or rename it and release it again, and again.

Nothing to do with nostalgia, Aion is a great game.

Their new monetization isn't ideal to some people, myself included.

You obviously haven't played a lot of games (or MMO's for that matter) to say such thing. Do you also repeat all that in front of your mirror just to sleep better? Your generalization is just so wrong on so many levels. There's a lot of great MMO's that has no pay to win aspects at all, and yet here we are showing ours finger of doom and condemn every game into existance.

Ppl like you are actually part of the problem admiting and shaming everything on thier path to just feel superior. Yes, there's a lot of MMO's out there not worth mentioning because they are pure P2W, but once in a while you should come out of your cave and see the world as it is, and it's not that bad.

Games like FFXIV is quite the opposite of what you have said, but why bother to look? It's way better to be toxic and put everything under one rug and call it a day. Heh.

True, but if one wants to be competitive on the pvp side then they are going to be competing with people who are dropping money on things to sell for in-game gold. That's a tough sell. Of course, that then brings up the conversation of those who have oodles of time to play over people who don't. It's never easy.

Otherwise, sure, play to your heart's content.

Thats absolutely not p2w. Give you easy way in the beginning, a little boost but aion classic is not p2w. Really popular I hope playerbase will keep those numbers, very good choice to play this game while you wait for New World or for Ashes of Creatons.

Oh yes, it will be especially annoying to those that enjoy competitive PvP, a deal breaker I suspect for a good many of them. I know I wouldn't play the game if that was what I was looking for.  Hmmmm... my overwhelming focus on PvE has blinded me to the significance of other considerations. I will have to be wary of that.

When that P2W cash money flow dries up they'll shut this game down and won't think twice about it.

Someone said in another thread "seems like a cash grab".
If they weren't trying to maximize short term profit they would've released a "classic" Aion similar to the original which was just a sub and/or have a minimal cash shop.

The immediate heavy P2W monetization sends up tons of red flags making me think they plan to cash out asap.

Anyone unaware of NCSoft history thinking of spending money should know that they hate their western customers more than any other SK company out there.

And that's the thing, I was thinking that "subscription" was going to take care of it all and that the cash shop was cosmetics or some such stuff.

In any case, that's on me, I could have waited to see what the cash shop would actually be. I asked for a refund and got it and while it's a shame, I'm satisfied with the outcome.

Thanks to the P2W, the classic servers are almost dead. This clearly shows NCsoft failed to recognize the needs of the western audience.

Agree, except we didn't got that experience. Not even close. Aion Classic ( even tho' they advertised it as being a "true" Vanilla ), is nothing like Aion 1.0 , 1.2 or 1.5, etc from back in the days. Is a combination of  .. 1.0 with some .. QoLs and Skills from 1.0 to 2.7. We didn't even got Patch Notes for fuck sake. They first said we will have 1.0 . Then that we will get 1.2 , and what we got was .. 1.0 to 1.5 with some 1.5 content work and some don't. It's a mess.

Plus, is THE first game in the history of MMOs ( or maybe I'm wrong ), where we have : F2P, P2P, Battle Pass ( Daeva Pass ) and .. P2W! And all this Day 1.

I don't even want to think what the economy will look like. At lvl 20 you start needing Stigams. Imagine how much they will sell for, because of the Whales and all the Kinah which was ..injected by NcSoft into the game.

At least Gold Seller have .. limited power and supplies. At least they are .."playing" and farming the game. With Candies, literally, there is no limit.

In before : There is a limit of 1 Mil Kinah per day to sell. Yea, no! Put a shop with the Candies for 80k or so, so that other players will buy them and make a profit of 20k and voila. For 30 Candies you will not get 3 Mil, but 2.4 Mil will still do.

So Aion is doing what Wow, Eve Online, Gw2, etc... is doing, trying to earn the money that people that would otherwise use a gold seller for... Smart, especially since I've already seen Gold Sellers advertising in chat!

The point is clear, there is a crowd here who believes that we did not really enjoy those games, it is just nostalgia giving us a false impression that they were good. That is the context in which the dude was posting, hence my reply. Of course nostalgia has a factor in it by its very definition.

I tried this game for a a day and thought about playing it for a while but there is a few things that made me just remove it.

I was only getting a 24 hour free trial and if I wanted to keep the 100% xp/gold boost I would have to buy a 30 day thing that cost about 30 dollars. That of course included a pet that would give me some more carry space and a few other things. I would have been happy paying a sub if it was 12 or so bux a month.

Then the clunky and annoying UI and my mouse pointer would start flickering after playing for an hour or so and I would have to reboot my whole PC. I looked online for a fix and people said would have to roll back my grafix drivers.

Then on top it it, there is a month long PTW event going on that looked like it might be fun. But then the price of that, and one of the first daily quests was to "buy from the store". Screw that. How is buying from the store every day a quest.

I could have been game that would have played for while if was not trying to rob me at every turn tbh.

Lesson learned, turn away from anything that is NC Soft. IMO of course

It's exactly like that. There is literally not a single new MMORPG now that isn't complete garbage. I have tried pretty much everything released in the past 5 years and I always go back to playing old games from the early 2000s, because they were so much better.

I am aware of the clear point. I am also aware that nostalgia makes one more tolerant of that which would be a bother otherwise.

Putting nostalgia aside, that the games were good doesn't prevent that from partly being despite themselves rather than because of it.

Finally, if these games were seen as good by the majority of their players why were they so eagerly kicked to the curb en masse when alternatives arose.

The games are good to those that find them so, but their appeal has proven to be niche. Much of their original popularity was due to a lack of other options.

If you were to compare current Aion to the original Aion you would see why.

Current Aion is just horrible. No gates to the other side, it seems like they littered it with "whimsy" (though a lot of Asian games seem to do this) It seems they got rid of zones, not the abyss PVP seems nonexistent, It just doesn't feel good.
