The fact this game thinks it can charge $40 dollars for their current product is laughable. Should be a free to play game.

Actually they'd need to pay me to waste my time on this any further then I've already regrettably done.

Their latest live stream was awful.
Some humbling talk about never pretending to be a AAA game but only a low budget game with some ideas they threw at KS'r.

I personally feel they chose a bad direction for the design and should have focused on ONE idea and all players under that same server idea.
Seasons is a monetization idea and not a good game idea.

I feel that if you could read into JTodd's mind he would tell you this was a bad idea and if he had to do it again he would say NO.

It's just bad. The graphics look awful and I don't mean they are outdated, just the taste of the developers suck and given the engine they use, if they had a little bit more creativity, they could've achieved more. I always use as an example old games like Vanilla WoW, Silkroad Online, Lineage 2, Talisman Online, Twelve Sky 2, 9Dragons and others as a great example how you can have an old game with very outdated graphics that still looks nice in 2021, because the developers weren't completely clueless and used some clever techniques to make the games look nicer and age well.

I can't speak much for the gameplay, the combat is just boring, not bad, but nothing interesting either. The UI last time I tried felt like it was oversized and was poorly scaled down that it had pixelation and it looked really unprofessional.

The game feels like an Early Alpha, not like an official release, I can't see the game getting any better than this. It's been in development for 6 years and I remember first seeing it in 2015, thought it looked nice, got bummed out that I won't be able to run it on my old PC, now that I can run it maxed out on my newer PC, it runs very poorly with below 60 FPS, the graphics are bad, the gameplay is bad and boring, the game is either disappointing, or I'm not the right audience at all.

For all of the funding they claim to have raised I'm surprised they didn't accomplish a bit more in the time spent.

LMAO! Seasons, as it is referred to in this game are part of the campaign, again here you go spouting off about something you have literally no clue about.

When a campaign starts it will be in Spring (during test, it may change for live however, for sake of conversation, they start in spring) so if you harvest, resources are plenty you get maximum bonuses etc. Summer time resources diminish a bit, but nothing terribly noticeable, until winter (there is a fall as well) when resources become scarce (good ones anyway) and increase the importance of fighting over nodes. this is an over simplification, but the point is, @Wizardry is refencing the wrong form of seasons here (not surprising) as you don't need to buy a pass for each season as most people have come to expect. If Wiz had bothered to learn anything about the game he would have known this.

Campaigns can last a couple days or a couple months (according to the devs, I have yet to see anything longer than a couple weeks) and some of them are zero import, which means you show up with default starter kit and start gathering the mats you need to outfit your clan, and if you can get a Fort/Keep/Castle and hold it. Again, pretty over simplified, but this is the just of it. There are a few different campaign types, however, I don't really feel like explaining them all.

I was a supporter of this game, and about a year ago, they really started fixing and implementing changes, to me, this is a game that was fixed into being boring. They removed the focus on campaigns, added hunger dome, a sorry take on the BR genre, failed to really balance classes and made the game a zerg fest. I think everyone saw that coming.

Anyway, I have not been able to force myself to play in the last few months (It loses out to SWG Restoration III...a 20 year old and far better game imo) so I do not know what it will look like for launch, but I won't be there.

Wizardry is the king of nothing burger copy pasta drivel. I have never seen him say a positive thing about anything. The person lives on this site just waiting to shit on every new article that comes out.

I have never seen someone so jaded and negative about video games. Sounds like Wizardry desperately needs a new hobby.

I have long held the belief that he does not in fact play any games, just talks trash and pontificates on topics he knows nothing about.

For so many years people here complained that there weren't enough new MMO's that weren't WoW clones. This one comes along made on a minimal budget that has so many different not carbon copy MMO features and people dump all over it.

Here are my pros & cons...

    Pros

Visually easy to look at both for long play sessions and for streaming. My eyes are bad and can't play many games for longer than a couple hours but have no problem playing this one for 6+. It has a modern look but not the strain on the eyes that for me is associated with some modern gfx.

Housing has more uses than just looking pretty and can be customized extensively. The ability to expand + modify placement to this level in Eternal Kingdoms is something I have never seen in an MMO.

Class and race diversity/choices/uniqueness that hasn't really been seen in an MMO in a very long time. When was the last time we could play as a centaur or minotaur in an MMO?

Boomer combat speed. Some may see this as a negative but the way cooldowns work prevent too much spammy combat. If you get twitchy and don't wait for certain skills to cooldown you may miss the chance to complete a combo that would've saved your life. This game has the combat system that requires a little bit of planning and thought which is what people here have been asking for for decades.. Copying a 'meta' build in this game could leave you miserable because for the amount of time you'll be playing a single character not playing what you enjoy could make people quit the game. Yes, every class/race combo is THAT different from racial perks, sound, animations.

Unique guild recruitment system that is done outside of the game. Some see this as a negative but I think appealing to people who are serious about the game with WORDS and intentions/goals provides the potential for lasting relationships rather than a bunch of guild jumpers/hoppers. Many mobile games although in-game do the whole 'appeal via written word' rather than in-game guild status. Not saying it's the best system but sometimes becoming familiar with people outside games strengthens bonds within the game.

Easily accessible in the sense that the game can be played as a short term burst game or long term but always has that 'easy to jump in' and get a rewarding play session in aspect going for it. This is very similar to FPS or Moba but with the extra option of long term progression. It IMO has the most 60-70's music vibe I've ever seen in a game and it's shocking that it's in a PVP MMO lol.

    Cons

Unity server and all the problems related to it.

    Will have PVP toxicity.

    Housing(Eternal Kingdoms) can be whaley.

    Sub is basically mandatory.

    _________________________________________________________

My prediction although probably unpopular is that this game will be a success that it will bring in many older MMO players that want a more involved MMO gaming experience in 2021.

With the way monetization is setup from whaley Eternal Kingdoms to mounts and mandatory sub also makes me think that the game will be bought out by a bigger company in under 1-2 years. When you see how expensive everything for EK is it shocks gamers but also makes ears perk up of those game companies on the hunt for more whales.

Nahh, those were just the ranting of pitiful people thinking they come across as edge lords by bad mouthing things, like the losers that give games like ESO and GW2, 1 star reviews at launch, because they think it makes them look like the cool kids to be negative.

The truth is, the Graphic are quite well done overall, very high quality, and highly detailed, they are just a specific style that some people don't like, but they are still top notch graphics overall.

The Combat is target assist, and truth be told this is really great for people like me that don't have that precision control when when I am playing, I know if I am aiming at the general target I will hit them, I won't miss because I was a pixel off to the left. Some people may not like that, but for me, it was a huge sale point for basically action combat based game. Also makes it super easy to play with a controller with was another major sale point for me.

It's not P2W, and it's not bad. It's a game, I mean, really have no idea what some of these Negative Nancy posters expect from game, but, it's a decent game, it's a Throne War game, so, keep in mind you will not be doing dungeons and raids, you will be doing massive pvp battels.

It may or may not be the game for you, but as a game, it is well made, and provides what the Dev and Studio said they would deliver.

I have no complaints about the graphics.  It's an art style.  Rooted back to when it was going to be a voxel based game.  It is fine.

I think the combat in general is OK.  Nothing ground breaking, but again, it's fine.

The monetization so far is fine as well.  I will never consider a sub to be P2W.  If someone does, well, everyone gets an opinion.  The other stuff you can buy in the store really don't seem to add much to the game.  Maybe if they ever really do a pass at the Eternal Kingdoms to make them desired that might change.  But for now... the guy that spent $1000 on his Castle has no real advantage vs the guy that pays $40 for the basic game.

I think that the game has 2 weaknesses.  Whether they are fatal or not remains to be seen.

The first is the cap of 200 players in a zone while Guilds can have 500 members.  I totally understand the engine limitations, but then they should cut the guild sizes down.  Nobody wants a game where you win by logging people in and clogging up a zone. I understand that people could still login alts that are unguilded, but at least it would be a start.  Maybe someone could come up with a better idea, but it needs to be addressed. This also feeds in to the fact that zones are small and this hurts PvE, Harvesting and even PvP in the long run as it makes it hard for small groups to play their role.  If a small group takes an outpost a message blares, and then in comes the zerg...

The second is the leveling.   A new player will get to level 30 their first evening of playing. Thereafter they can instantly make level 25 characters.  In general, the game is growing closer and closer to MOBA and further from an RPG.  It was always supposed to have MOBA elements but your character progression was supposed to really be in depth and occur over a long timeframe.  They scrapped the offline training (like eve used to be) which may or may not end up being a good idea.  The problem is that they swung the pendulum so far in the other direction now that it's kind of a joke.

We will see how they do at launch (expect a lot of issues as they really haven't had a true Stress Test) and more importantly how they do a few weeks or months later.

I've got my crew ready.   Couldn't talk them into checking out the latest updates last night but hoping to get onto Test tonight and go through the tutorial one more time to see the new stuff they added at the end. (sieging)

    We will see.
