Looking for a game with nice crafting.

I don't want WoW point and click crafting and also not EQ2 type crafting that is comlpetely pointless as all products are the same for a given Tier.

I want a huge variety in objects to craft that are actually different and usefull for other players. Harvesting, Mining etc.

I tried SagaOfRyzom, EQ2, WoW, FFXI (so far the best), Seed.

I can't download a working version of Horizons (CRC error on installation, tried with 3 different PC's) and apparently you can't register at the moment anyways.

I don't like the look of A Tale in the Desert but might try it if i dont find anything else.

Any suggestions?

For starters,EQ2 crafting is the best i have ever seen for MANY reasons. No i don't play eq2 anymore nor am i a fanbois. The crafting system in eq2 is so in depth i would have to write 200 lines to explain it all.

I assume by point and click you mean, you dont want to just add the items then click and whalla a never fail perfect craft?Imo you should have to earn your craft in several ways>>>harvesting /spells/time spent[killing to attain craft books ect ect]

i played FFXi from the begining and can say its prolly the worse crafting system ever.I can't believe you would say its the best lol.Your craft level has to be ions above your play level to make any of the crafts useful at all.You can NOT craft any spells in FFXI and the cost of crafting is very unrealistic ,wich is why there was an  epidemic of gil selling in that game.you cut up EQ2 for the tier crafting yet FFXI is by a mile very limited in its tier crafts.Heck the crafting in that game isnt even player controlled [its ALL luck]the outside factors are so minimal that they dont change the crafting one bit from being nothing more than luck.Instead of having a 2% chance to craft an elite item you might be able to sway it to a 3/4% chance lol still luck and a crap system IMO.

FFxi crafting is extremely easy to do,so i guess that's what you want.POint click crystal add items into the slots, sit back and let luck decide the outcome...Blah boring. You don't even have to earn the crafts, they are always there ,just go online to ALLA and look for it.

Sooooooooooo i can honestly say without hesitance ANY game that offers crafting SHOULD be better than FFxI.

Nothing comes close to the crafting, development of objects for use in game as it does in Ultima Online. It's beyond superior. If you're looking for the best 3D game for crafting it's Horizons, but, with a small population you don't have much of a market to craft to. Give ultima online a shot for crafting, it's pretty amazing.

Thanks for the feedback. Installing UO as i type this.

Wizardry: FFXI crafting is not based on luck. You have a fail rate and you have a success rate based on your crafting level and the difficulty of the item you craft. Day, Moon etc. do affect crafting like they affect EVERYTHING in that game. Every craft is unique. I don't make Tea, beer, coffee etc. that all does exactly the same thing and only the number of combines determines the duration. Imbued items all get the same effect for the Tier. EQ2 crafting is a timesink, nothing more.

And btw, EQ2 crafting is totally random. The amount of progreesion and the icons appearing that you click the appropriate icon in your skill book is RANDOM.

crafting in eq2 is as time consuming and painfully full of clicking as normal leveling (if not moreso since you have to make so many subcomponents from different fields).  the implementation of the system is what is lacking, not the items you can create.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Geesh..of course it is time consuming, you want to be able to craft elite gear in 2 minutes? and reach level 50 crafting in 2 days? That is very unrealistic expextations of a GOOD crafting game.No the tiered items are NOT the same in eq2 at all. Some foods offer better str some sta ,the point is that they are different. You have to actually earn the elite crafting books by killing mobs not by going to ALLAkazam and looking the recipe up.

Ya the craft can be upped a bit in FFXI by moon phases but so what, its such a small %,it has virtually no factor what so ever.It seems like it can change the craft chance from 1% to maybe 2 % chance.Yes i did elude to the fact that the craft has success based on IONS of levels above your craft. That is the stupidest idea any game could think of.

Let's see to farm the items for a craft and farming is done solo not in groups. You need to be like level 50 to farm for level 35-38 items. Then in order to get a good  and i mean only good not perfect success of a elite craft you have to be crafting something around level 10  RFLMAO.What on earth good is a level 10+1/2/3 item to a level 50 player omg think about it.

I crafted to level 75 on 2 players in FFXi so i can never be pursuaded that it is W/O a doubt a horrible crafting system.

Without getting into UO or any of the other crafting in some of the games i see mentioned, those games are just too old and tired looking to warrant anyone paying a monthly fee to play.Would you buy a 10 year old car at a brand new price?i hope not.I guess the arguement would be a 10 yr old mercedes is better than a 2 year old firefly but those old games are no way in the mercedes class .

I would go with Horizons personally. The game does have its faults, but crafting isn't one of them. It's arguably the game's strongest point.

EQ2 is doing away with sub-components with the next big update.  I think it goes live in June, along with the new expansion.  I'm still not crazy about the crafting mini-game but this will help.  They're also updating havesting so you can pull more from each node.  All in all, I think it'll be a big improvement.

Nothing can even compare to the in-depth crafting of A Tale in the Desert.  Its too bad no one buys thier game engine and incorporates it into a blockbuster mmo; because that will definetly complete alot of the game.  The Sims Online crafting is kinda short.  Second Life has interesting crafting; but its alot more like severely limited 3d modeling and not like actual crafting.  EVE also has a descent crafting system.

All the other crafting systems in mmo's blows severe chunks.
