The upcoming blockchain-based MMORPG Ember Sword is getting ready for their next Solarwood land sale. The upcoming sale is hot on the heels of a previous madcap free-for-all land sale that resulted in a comprehensive post mortem investigation of issues.

That being said, I ain't buying no land in a unreleased game. Seen that before -
greedmonger, CoE anyone? Bad practice is bad practice.
This tho is on crypto, Entropia Universe was the big boy here long before crypto was a thing working via cash deposite/withdrawal, now it's literally a monetary investment with potential monetary return via crypto.... in the shape of a game "play in my zones pay my taxes with your crypto".
If a title like this pulls it off and gets trendy tho, these early investments will multiply eventually leading to the same jealously as of early bitcoin adopters. Still be gambling money away.
The idea that you purchase in-game stuff that doesn't exist yet became popular much later, mostly with crowdfunded MMOs.
Totally not a scam.

2024: 47 years on the Net.
Same as mmorpg which sells 10k kickstarter pack, and now years after it is not even released but this site promotes by writing news about it -.-
"security", Ha!, you made me Lol with that one!
If the game is terrible or never launches, then the land will be worthless. So far, they haven't given any reason to believe otherwise. "Please buy land" accounts for perhaps half of their web site. The other half reads like it's aspirational stuff that they'd like to do someday, but haven't done yet and might not be able to do at all.
If you're considering running off and giving them money, consider that it's both browser-based and a mobile game. That considerably limits what you can do with game mechanics.
It's not DreamWorld level of obvious scam, but it does sound seriously fishy to me.
Or great loss.
I expect the foundation of this was the widespread acceptance of f2p and all that came with it, as that likely led to providers having the state of mind that since we swallowed that we'd happily gulp down anything. We've largely proven them correct.
