imagePathfinder Online To Shut Down November 28th | MMORPG.com

Pathfinder Online's developers made the announcement today that the MMO will be coming to a close, sunsetting on November 28th. The MMO, which was Kickstarted for over a million dollars back in 2012, has seen its fair share of struggles over the years. However, Paizo has announced that the game will be coming to a close later this year, though they do state they will be working on a storyline for players to enjoy till the end.

This was literally the worst mmo I ever played. Ryan “Steve Jobs of Gaming” Dancey screwed the pooch on this one. I felt bad for the staff they laid off years ago but this was just a horrible game.

Yes Duncey really screwed the pooch hard on it and ignored lots of feedback he got from testers......

This is one of those cases where I truly am surprised that the game lasted as long as it did. People predict it about every game and when something finally sticks, they cry 'I told you so' Those predictions kinda lose potency after a while for me.... however....however, in this case, I think they had a legit prognostication.

Pathfinder had a ready built audience that really wanted the game to succeed. I wonder if they banked on them and so put in a half hearted effort. A truly sad performance in developing an MMO.

    Good Riddance!

Hopefully, all the Studio's that may have wanted to make a D&D themed MMO, will jump at the chance to take this IP and do it right.

Honestly I kept going back to the homepage for this to see if anything ever happened to it and kept being super surprised that it was still around every time. I hope someone makes better use of this IP.

This is the one game"well Amalur as well" i feel sorry for in failing because the women behind the money really wanted this to work.
I think she wanted to spread the success of the board/miniatures into a successful PC game.

However i do remmber that in the beginning someone,a studio told her that there was no way to pull off the game she wanted on the limited budget. After that i don't remember if she was coerced into trying it anyhow or if she pushed a studio into just trying it on her budget.

I think it if were someone like jeremy Walsh he would tell her heck yeah and take all her money but the first studio got it right when telling her "it can't be done".

Too bad really as i feel a lot of studios are out to make as cheap a game as possible but she really wanted this to work but had no idea what she was getting into.

This is one game that completely missed the mark. (IMO obviously) Pathfinder is a great IP but nothing in the MMO actually felt like the pen & paper RPG.

This was my kickstarter lesson game. I've backed a few games before pathfinder, and a few games after. This was the one game where I thought,  "Oh it's pathfinder, it's built on a solid IP" and didn't vet it properly. It was the only kickstarter game I got burned on.

I never even got to play it. I tried, I couldn't even get it to install properly. Because I attempted to get it installed and the game "launched" my time that I purchased in the kickstarter was considered "active" and it ran out before I ever logged in. Never went back.

I'd say I'm sad to see it go, but I never saw it in the first place.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

It is extremely unfortunate that this abomination was ever associated with the name Pathfinder.

Well that's a shame. I was waiting for an announcement that it was released so that I could check it out.

That's the key I think. People get burned by a KS game and become never KS'ers. The real lesson is just like choosing an MMO to play. Vet Read Vet Read some more and do a final Vet.

    This.. so much.. this.

They could have used that IP to make a really amazing game.

Would be epic if a better studio took up the IP and made a real game of it, I am sure a lot of Old School D&D players that long for the 3.x edition, would jump on a chance to play a well made MMO on the IP.

I remember when it first was starting to get some publicity....Alot of people thought it was going to be really good...I guess just due to the name, but like so many games we don't usually get what is expected.

I quite liked the single player game, Pathfinder Kingmaker, perhaps they should stick with those more.

Holy cow. I thought this game shut down 5 or 6 years ago. Had no idea it was running and had a playerbase all this time.

Well... "a playerbase" is technically true.  But it's always been tiny.  And  mean... really tiny.    This was kept afloat by a single developer I think.

Like many I hadn't realized this had ever even launched. Really would have been nice to have a good complete game in this incredibly vast fleshed out Pathfinder world.

I was under the impression that this was under development until ~2018 then dev stopped and was restarted again around 2020.
So I thought it is still to be released.

Seems like they were even worse in marketing than they were in development .
