great review really, balanced and honest. give I've done the same within the game myself and have a mirrored experience it related to me...
it's a shame the games not going to go well from here with an Marketing campaign aimed at the juggernaut New World.
but give the games state maybe best to let a dead horse die
1) Because New World is indeed the better game 2) They misjudged that Crowfall was to their tastes and they were not originally its target audience after all.
How about a third option: the charm of the novelty. And of course NW is prettier. But when the novelty effect is over and only gameplay counts, only then can we say whether NW and CF are fighting for the same audience.
If a reviewer doesn't like RvR PvP games,
they shouldn't be reviewing them. If a reviewer doesn't like Musou
games, they shouldn't be reviewing them. If a reviewer doesn't like
strategy RPGs or JRPGs, they shouldn't review them. But they do anyway,
and often disproportionately so. Certain franchises actually ARE
unfairly defined by people who don't like them, so it's actually hard to
find trustworthy authorities on what is and isn't a good entry.
You
don't see me reviewing survival games, hardcore PvP MMOs, battle
royales, first person shooters, etc. Because I don't like them and I'm
not qualified to judge.
I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, there aren't that many reviewers who know what the essentials of a good PvP MMORPG are.

Will Crowfall even survive long enough for NW's novelty to wear off.

To be real, neither game is just competing with eachother. They're competiting with everything already out there, and neither game is likely to pull a big audience away from their ol'faithful.
Call it sunk cost fallacy, or just be fair and say that any new MMO is going to have a nigh-impossible time comparing to existing ones that have built up monetized content for years. It's a little of both, and it makes breaking into this genre particularly difficult.
What I have a hard time understanding is how these Crowfall devs can epic fail this much.
These are supposed to be experts, its not like they just invested 30+mil overnight into an unlucky gamble. This was developed over many years. They had plenty of time to figure out there was no audience for what they were making. How can these people be so blinded to make a game that doesn't even attract a niche audience.
They listened to the Ivory Tower. The 4-5 zerg guilds that were there since Alpha kept telling them that all their guys were "on a break" and there would be a massive influx at launch. You saw it on this very forum by people in those guilds. The Devs failed because they listened to these guys. That's also why they launched without the Factions server. The same Zerg guilds were telling them how fantastic the Dregs server was and that the Factions server would just distract from that. So at launch they DIDN'T get a huge influx of players and the ones that did join, played for a bit and got to the point where they finished up the Newbie scenario and had nowhere to go but the Dregs Guild vs Guild. They elected to leave instead of stay.
In short, the Devs listened to the wrong people.

Bottom line Crowfall just plain sucks nothing else to say about it. New World 22 servers full with ques for closed beta and its still rocking great population enough said.
But New World will get an 8 from this site once released. And SOLO gets a higher one too?
Smells like paid reviews are more favorable, right?
Nah, I actually think a 5.0 is too high.
Did you even play it?
Edit: Nevermind, I see a post now where it looks like you did. Too many times people just hate on this forum and go with the masses instead of finding out for themselves. I retract my question.

Yeah I suppose, but what is with these Devs and Fanbois that they don't put in options to allow the game to be successful?
Its not like they couldn't still have a Dregs server if they really wanted that. What is with these people just completely limiting themselves.
I remember in DAOC, they had PVP faction servers, PVE servers, and FFA PVP servers. I seriously doubt its really that hard to change the rulesets. They should have just developed a faction game, with some optional PVE added in just like NW, then have different servers for the different play types.
This way you can play the server you enjoy. As long as the game is getting lots of revenue everyone wins.
What instead we get is these people saying even if you give us the game we want exactly, we are not going to play it if you also have servers/options for other playstyles.
This goes all the way back to UO, when all these PVPers abandoned UO after Trammel, even thou Felluca was exactly the style they were dreaming of. They couldn't stand watching there game branch out and allow PVE'ers an option.
People are drawing comparisons because both games are similar and both games will be released within a short time apart. Some of their similarities include:
1) Core pvp games with a side of pve 2) Faction PvP 3) Siege PvP mechanics 4) Crafting system designed around player economy 5) Ability to play Multiple classes with low investment time to level.
These are just a few but these a core aspects of the game and for me personally New World does a better job at it.
Even if there weren't stability issues, the glaring balancing issue of allowing 500 players into a single guild and then letting those 500 player guilds team up with 4 other 500 player guilds make it unplayable for literally any other guild on the server that doesn't have a 2,500 player alliance.
I'm surprised they didn't take steps to prevent such organizations from forming as I felt this type of issue was one of the biggest problems Shadowbane suffered from.
I was there at SBs launch which I actually enjoyed until the days when the server's mega guild began rolling everyone else.
Heck due to other design flaws most of our guilds city was destroyed in an early morning (3am ET) raid the day before the tree timer was set to come down. (Tree could only protect a limited number of structures, everything else was fair game.)
I recall logging in the server before work the morning before the scheduled raid to help beef up the defenses some only to find most everything including my structure in ruins.
One of more disheartening game experiences I've ever had in a MMORPG and I think I only logged in once more to say goodbye to my guild mates for the last time and returned to DAOC for a few more years.

Its such a terrible flaw. It will be the death of the game.

These organizations are the zerg guilds I mentioned. Even 500 wasn't enough, they wanted to be able to ally other guilds, so the Dev's put that in place as well.
The sad part is that even most of the zerg guild members aren't playing. Most are just hangers who pop in and leach for a bit and then fade away.

Looks like Artcraft has paid (each person states that this is sponsored by Artcraft in the video) the C and D Tier streamers to create "Crowfall vs New World" videos and say that Crowfall is great.
It's soooooo bad it's painful to watch these things.
Here's an example:
the streamer shills are an abomination. - and I agree painful to even catch a glimpse of!

They Tried with their Hunger Dome Idea, forcing things to small scale, just so that mega guilds would not have the advantage.
But some people be like "OMG they promised Faction vs Faction" with their puissant 9 person guild, that has at best has 3 people show up, and are too stupid or brain dead to realize that Mega Guilds will own the fuck out of them in that game mode, just like they have in every single other game ever made that had that game mode, since that game mode existed.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
I seldom put much stock in other people's opinions of games...I find myself agreeing with this review though. Its a boring game with the same issues it had for most of BETA.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
I think the gripes of the critics of Crowfall actually have to do mostly with the gameplay (combat, UI, polish).
Not at all. If you read the criticism of people that have written about it, like @Mtibbs1989 or even the OP's review, you will see that the main issues revolve around the core gameplay loop: e.g., the crafting/gathering system is bs, the "world" is way too fragmented, the way campaigns are set up doesn't make sense, etc.
The combat and UI are good enough, these are not things that are keeping players away from the game. I would even go as far as to say that I like the combat, classes, and customization options more in CF than in NW, but despite that I feel no desire to log in and play.
