Artcraft makes last minute change to win conditions for initial campaigns due to massive exploiting

With a few hours to go, they suddenly realized that people and guilds were exploiting to get themselves the "win conditions" for the end of the campaigns.   Artcraft made a change to scoring which caught a lot of innocent guilds in it.  How nobody saw this coming is beyond me...  


This guy sums up the issues with their response nicely. He also puts it in perspective.  It's not the end of the world, but Artcraft screwed up the response, and the timing is just bad.

    AFTER the campaign ended they just announced they changed their minds again, apologized  and went back to the old scoring methods...

    I think they got it right, but they really have to swap swinging wildly back and forth on every topic like a pendulum. 


    The Crowfall service experienced some challenges, as our first Dregs campaigns came to a close last week. Players identified an issue in the Conquest scoring system late in the campaign and as a result, we chose to delay delivery of the Conquest segment of rewards to allow our team time to review the data. After an initial review, we announced a change to the scoring system to curtail further abuse as the campaign was ending. After further review of the data and related player feedback, we have decided to move forward and grant all the Conquest rewards as originally offered in the campaign, to all the winning guild leaders - to ensure no player guilds were denied rewards they earned during the campaign. The rewards will be distributed this week. As a rule, we prefer not to interrupt current campaigns in progress and to let the campaign play out, then focus on making rule or reward changes post campaign. However, if we feel there is something significantly negative impacting our players or threatening the security of the game or the game economy, our team will step in. This was one of those cases. Our apologies to the guilds and players involved for the delay in receiving your rewards and we appreciate your support in allowing us the time for review and analysis.

    Cheating? In a PVP game? Whoever heard of such a thing?

    Ugh. As a backer of this game I am extremely let down by what I've seen since launch.

    Having seen thousands of games and the history of gamers we can conclude that exploiting,cheating is a VERY real problem.I used to love pvp gaming and completely stopped becuase cheating is too big a problem for me to deal with.

    Also having seen this same problem over and over and over for MANY years pretty much confirms that studios do NOT CARE to even think about these issues while designing a game.Their only focus is how to make the game as cheap as possible and how to secure funds.
    I would say these studios spent 20 hours to every 1 second on monetization when compared to exploiting issues within their game.They simply don't think or care to design the game around exploiting and cheating.
    So what ALWAYS happens and pretty much falls right into the early access gaming dilemma is these devs just wing it,they just figure "we will worry about it when the time comes".

    This is the same as a two bit maintenance crew that has no preventative maintenance,they just wing it.Unlike the working world if you make a mistake or have no preventative maintenance it likely doesn't cost you any kind of penalty.You just say ok people are complaining let's NOW deal with it.In the real working world the lack of foresight could cost you your entire business and then some.This is why any reputable business will have an overhead budget,they add say 10-20% cost onto the proposed cost to make sure they don't go broke doing it.

    These rinky dink half assed game studios don't have any overhead budget because from day 1 they don't even have a budget,they just wing it,if the money comes in ok we will continue if not,ok we stop working on it.

    If i was the producer/lead working on a game every single day i would have thoughts and questions about the integrity of my game.I would be wandering around stations not to make my fellow employees uncomfortable but to simply query them with potential problems i foresee.

    This would literally happen every single day on multiple fronts and by the time even one year is up i would have consulted my team on hundreds if not thousands of issues.

    Part of my mentality is that when i do something i care about what i do and it is reflected in my everyday job.I NEVER have a no care attitude when working i always want things to be right or done very well.

    So i have to wonder how the OBVIOUS issues that come up in gaming are not even thought about over 5/6/7 years,how is that even remotely possible if the person in charge either cares or has a clue about gaming?

    I think you'd make a pretty good devil's advocate, @Wizardry.  More companies need someone to question their decisions.  There's just too much focus on the money, not enough on caring about the product.
