I'm full of myself, because I want the leveling experience to be as challenging as it once was? And I'm in the wrong for suggesting to add an optional debuff that can reduce the stats of only those people who want it and those who like the game as it currently is can still enjoy it the same? This is the kind of suggestion I was trying to make and everyone of those clowns jumped me as if it's something that will affect their experience negatively. It will not. The reality is that they are greedy hypocrites and they don't want the game to change to be more inclusive for other people, even if it doesn't affect them whatsoever.
You can suggest all you want and they can disagree all they want, they are not brain dead for liking what they like.
Also, what mmorpg has really had challenging leveling other than maybe some of the really old games?
That's not really the point of leveling as mobs and points of xp are just mini power-ups.
I'm sure someone will say "don't use armor, don't use x, y and z and make it more challenging" but that really doesn't lend to having a shared experience.
No, I would say that having (in Elder Scrolls Online's case) a challenging "channel" that a player might have more difficult overland mobs might be a better option.
Otherwise, wear the worst armor. There's your debuff.
Now, I'm being sarcastic when I suggest that. But that in essence is what you are asking for. Some way to make it individually more difficult for those who want challenge.
The game has content with varying degrees of difficulty. If one isn't happy with the default they can seek out others until they find the challenge that suits them. There is both solo and group options in this regard. There is also soloing that meant for groups.
Increasing the difficulty of the base game essentially does boil down to making less than optimal choices for race and build combinations. However, recent changes and those soon coming will make that more difficult.
One could experiment with exotic builds as well, providing they don't intend to play the most difficult group content as that would be a disservice to others.
Challenge is there, but it won't seek you. You must seek it.
I played ESO for the first time this year. I prefer leveling to end game. At first I thought the game was great, had hopes that this might be my new game. I quit after two months due to the dumbfoundingly easy leveling experience. It took me a bit to realize what was happening, I threw the notion away at first and figured things would get harder. When it didn't I did some googling and was amazed that it was intended to be as easy as it was. I didn't even get to understand my characters as I leveled, what abilities worked best and what rotation was ideal. There was no need, just run up to a group of mobs, click any of your abilities in any order and they die. Boring.

What type of content did you do?
I leveled through the zones, starting with Northern Eslweyr, a couple of grouped dungeons. Mostly my play was solo.
None of the Elder Scrolls games since Morrowind have been all that challenging, and Skyrim in particular is really easy with the occasional spike in difficulty depending on the encounter. So I find it odd that people would complain about an MMORPG based on the series being too easy.
People like to role play, and enjoy the cosmetic options the game has, and there is nothing wrong with that. The game is tailored to an audience that likes Skyrim, and I think the challenge it provides is on par with that game.
Too bad some elitists think that enjoying this makes you "brain dead" when the reality of the situation is just a different preference in taste.
That said I haven't played the game in a long time because it isn't my cup of tea anymore. I may go back some day, but for right now I am content finding other games to play.
I would have stuck with it if the difficulty was on par with Morrowind or Skyrim. As it stands the difficulty is quite far off. They may as well just have the mobs just stand there and die.

The problem is in 2014, 2015 and 2016, the difficulty in overland questing areas was a lot harder and that's when I enjoyed the game. When they released Level Scaling (Tamriel Unilimited or whatever it was called) in 2016, the difficulty dropped drastically and I was no longer having fun.
You and everyone else fail to see this. So I will spell it out with simple and big words:
IT USED TO BE BETTER. NOW IT'S WORSE.
If it was never more challenging, I would never make any claim, but I remember playing the game when it was more challenging and more fun. That's why I'm disappointed. Even if I had started playing it after 2016, I would have never been able to experience it as a more challenging game, and therefore I would have no claim over difficulty.
I started playing LOTRO in 2020/2021 so I don't remember how it was in 2011 for example, I may have tried it back then, but it was too brief and too long ago to get any decent idea, so I can't have any claims on difficulty.
But then again, LOTRO is introducing difficulty sliders so if you think the mobs are too easy for you, you can make them harder. This is what ESO should do at least. But I know ESO won't do that, because they get all their money from brain-dead whale noobs so they might even implement Auto-Play like mobile games to make it easier for them to buy cosmetics and show them off.
The only thing players seem to call out for is changes to the combat system, not sure players are overly concerned the graphics are getting old? But a step in the right direction, I just think players don't have this as a priority?
You don't know the player base. All the veterans and players who want a challenge left the game long ago. Now 95% of ESO's population is some noobs who just buy costumes and pets and mounts and are content with the brain-dead combat, because they are brain-dead as well and something more sophisticated will make them feel incompetent.
You have no idea how many times I tried suggesting options to make the game more challenging without affecting the experience of those who like it as it is.
Each time I get jumped and bombarded by the same brain-dead entitled noobs who only buy costumes and pets and mounts. They are ruining the game.
Worst of all the moderators of the game kiss their ass, they delete my posts and send me warnings, but they never delete theirs, because they protect them, because they are the whales that keep this train wreck of a game going.
You're kind of full of yourself and disrespectful of others.
I'm sure they aren't brain dead and are just regular people enjoying themselves. You want a challenge? Go find a game that touts that as a feature.
I've always wondered how far those complaining about the lack of challenge in ESO have gotten with regards to veteran level DLC dungeons, hard mode bosses and trial runs, not to mention the PVP side of things.
I've found some of the content quite challenging and while I actually bought a glow in the dark ghost mount (a terrible idea in Cryodill btw) I don't see myself as a clueless noob whale, just a person with some extra disposable income to spend.
No mate, he is right, we're brain-dead. You know it. I know it. The whole world knows it.
