I would personally like them showcasing whatever improvements they're making that led to this recent delay, so people can feel more sure that it wont get delayed again in September.

I hope they have an expansion or a DLC released 6 months after launch. I am a casual player, and I will still be leveling while everyone else is maxed out for months. I can see many players getting bored and moving on to something else. I didn't get to play much of the PVP content, so maybe I am wrong and it will keep them entertained until the next content release.

Paper thin lore. Only around 8 or so NPC mobs in the game--you'll be killing the same things at lvl 45 that you were at lvl 10...same movements, same attack patterns, etc. The game's PvE is centered around mission boards and sparsely populated NPCs that give you either 1) Fetch quests, 2) kill lists, or 3) delivery jobs. That's it.

There's no leaderboard in PvP. There's nothing worth even struggling to control--owning a settlement offers very marginal rewards that honestly don't matter that much. Crafting recipes are garbage--everything you can make will largely be salvaged for repair parts b/c nobody needs to buy gear. It literally drops everywhere. There's basically no economy outside of consumables. After a few months nobody will need to buy anything because gear never breaks--it can be repaired forever. Meaning: everything you loot, craft, or gather will be junk.

I could go on, and on, about how unpolished this game is--but let me just stop and admit this is the most shallow MMO I've EVER SEEN.

    Whew....Glad I'm not you.
    Oh, welcome to the Forums.

Crap, almost forgot.....It IS Amazons FIRST MMO so I will say they did a great job for their first attempt. I am sure they will improve on the game as time goes on since you know...It's their FIRST MMO.

    /sarcasm on
But then again I could expect a perfect polished Game out of the gate with perfect Content right?
    /sarcasm off

    Ok, welcome to the Forums!
    Gah..already said that.

So, they're gonna go WoW's route and rely on external sources to explain in-game lore? Gotcha.

Nice to see someone else welcoming people to the forums!

I have not played the game, but I have already noted from what has been said before that the lore is "paper thin", which is typical of todays MMO's. You can find hardly anything written down, maybe enough to cobble together a page of lore and then lore is drip fed to us like we were staving prisoners in a dungeon, which I guess role-players are these days.

Why this bodes ill is the same for every MMO that does this, it shows a "make it up as you go along" approach to lore and story which is never good. We got an idea of the theme of this world when we first heard about it, but they do not seem to have fleshed it out lore wise since then, though creatures and peoples and places have no doubt been added without much thought to lore. What I saw in the video for example seemed first designed to look good and be varied and then have an explanation tacked onto it.

But this is how MMOs are now, unless they have a book/game/film IP behind them the lore is threadbare.

Is this feature also going to be revolutionary and set the bar for other mmorpgs?  :D

That won't be much lore episodes then...Don't get me wrong I actually really enjoyed New World beta. However mob variety and lore are ankles deep. You learn about lore from few quests and mainly journal pages left out in the world. Mobs? Let me think, I'm sure I missed / misrepresented a few, but here you go:

    * not aggressive wildlife: pigs, cows, sheep, boar, turkeys, bison, deer / elk
    * aggressive wildlife: wolves, few wild cats (lynx, cougar) bears, alligators
    * Lost faction (basically zombies): melee zombie, ranged zombie, a pretty cool bat like creature
    * Ancients: melee skeleton, skeleton archer, skeleton spear man, skeleton with a 2 h axe, skeleton crawler
    * Corrupted: two or three melee varieties, crawler, hell hound, cultists
    * Angry Earth: I haven't seen these guys, but again from what I know you have 4 varieties?
    * Undead creatures: 2-3 variates around commentaries: ghost, a guy with a coffin on his back, some other ghost
    * Few more demon like things and boss creatures
    * Pirates: 4-? different enemy types: some with shield, pistols, swords
    * I think there is one more faction with a Chinese theme. Most aggressive wild animals follow a similar pattern, uninterruptible charge ability and basic attacks. Humanoids: few berserker types who spam attacks, big stick dudes, few range attackers with pistols and javelin attacks, few guys with a shield / stamina mechanic to break their blocks. Then there are ghosts with their stuns and AoE attacks. Ah yeah and a pirate with throw-able bombs.
    Have I missed any?

EDIT: This forum has THE WORST text editor I have ever seen on any forums. Whats the point of HTML options? This should be a simple text editor, not this mess. I hope you haven't paid for this.

jesus christ, reading comments on this forum is so fkin depressing. We finally getting a solid MMORPG that has a good bit of content at launch and interesting mechanics, and the game has strong financial support, yet all that people do is whine and cry.
What game was a gourd-breaking mmo, that was super polished at launch with no bugs, lag or any other issues? Give it time.

You learn to filter out the crap posters in time. What is surprising to me is that there are actually quite a few people here saying good things about this game, which is kind of mindblowing.

Sounds like any other MMORPG to me... and I actually like the fact that you only play humans, it fits the setting of the game.
The game is set in an alternate human time line during the era of conquistadors, many mobs on the island are the result of the corruption of the humans who reached those shores. I never had a problem with mob variety, I prefer that than Amazon adding new mobs just for the sake if it and ruining the setting of the game.

Not so sure about that, I definitely played MMOs where mob variety was far higher and more creative. The Native American theme is almost totally missing. They could have utilised Native American mythologies for creative purposes. This is one of the reasons why games like Witcher have such amazing game worlds.

Mob variety didn't bother me much, but was noticeable. Players are picky these days, especially those who enjoy PvE content.

A bit of out of context sorry but if one you fine people whom I have had the pleasure to get somehow acquainted over the years could guide this humble soul and make direct instructions for I, the old nag, should get into this game or not, I would much appreciate it.
