I have no data to back this up, just a gut feeling. When fans are desperate for a certain type of game, objectivity goes out the window.

I expect this game to launch incomplete, unimpressive, and a disappointment to all concerned.

The thing that bothers me the most is the animation in combat. It is a watch your guy fight game, which is cool. I like that style of game. But, the animation is so disjointed. Like the monk punches air and not the monster on the ground.

There needs to be some synchronization and weight to the combat.

Even EQ2 had that and that was from years ago.

It's a little more than that IMHO.  Folks get emotionally attached to in development games.  They tie their own self-worth to them.  It's kind of bizarre if you stop and think about it.  If I were in college I would absolutely work on a paper regarding the cult-like effect and it's root causes.

I dunno, European football fans have gamers beat by a long shot.

Just a typical day where they try to burn the stadium to the ground.

Keeping this one on my radar. Looks like it could be another "old school MMORPG" which I tend to enjoy more than the current wave of themeparks.

Dont have any money riding on this, so if it does not come out or it comes out as an unfinished early access game, I am not losing anything.

Pantheon staff has asked some questions of its followers that leads me to believe Pantheon may release like Project Gorgan when they have enough content in the future. Gorgan charged 5 or 6 bucks a month to play. I would pay that with Pantheon if they had enough content to keep me busy.

Fan is short for fanatic after all...

I do see the similarities though.  The difference is that usually those sports fans are at least tying themselves to a team that exists.  Current gaming analogy would be a sports super fan for a team that was just announced, hasn’t played a game, and wants you to pre-purchase $1000 seats in a stadium that doesn’t exist yet.

But yes,  at its heart, sports fans also tie in a measure of themselves to the teams success.  I touch on that on page 37 of my study.

Would it be persistent or would there be wipes?

There is no official word. Its my speculation after a few questions they have asked on their forums,
