It wasn't a dungeon for me. I was level 10ish when I decided to make a trip from Neriak to Qeynos. Thats where a bunch of my friends were playing. Anyway on this trip I was running thru Kithicor Forest during the daytime. Well about have way thru it got dark and changed to night time.

Thats when I shit my pants because during the day there are no dangerous mobs that can kill ya. At knight it turns into a high level nightmare of a zone for level 10. I died several times but finally got thru. Never had an experience like that since.

The first Dungeon was Cruma Tower in Lineage 2. Loved that place. Then Tower of Insolence.

I remember doing great barrow in Lord of the Rings Online and liked it. I've entered there solo a few times with a higher level character for the role playing "experience."

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

I think the first dungeon that really hooked me was Fallen Gate in EverQuest 2. I just liked everything about it, from the lore to the aesthetic to the fact it spanned quite a wide lvl range, plus I always love dungeons where you delve deeper and deeper into the unknown.

    Fallen Gate. EQ2.

    Loved it!

EQ2 was pretty much my first MMO and I spent many nights outside the dungeon trying to get a group going because i was desperate to finish my armour quests. I used to love that it was a shared dungeon aswell. had many nights lol'ing as another party came running past after a bad pull with half of the dungeon on their heels! good times :)

This would have to be mine as well. Lots of good times in there with friends and also running two accounts so I could have my Theurgist buff my Friar when I was grinding levels.

Also, first time running Deadmines in WoW was a great experience.

Ye, for me, pretty much any of the dungeons in L2. The ones you mentioned and then Ant Nest, Lair of Antharas, even the ones in starting areas like Elven Ruins,...

Everything non-instanced, everything OWPvP enabled. Places so dangerous that two mobs pulled at a time would eat you for dinner.

My best MMORPG memories for sure.
Antharas Lair man brings back some anxiety when I think of the pulls in that place lol.

And Darkness Falls! I loved going deep and trying to make it to the other realms side :)

May want to keep an eye on Ashes if it release. Their Goal is 80% open world dungeons and 20% instanced.

Darkness falls for me was my hook. Still today nothing like it loved fighting all the way to the other realms and battling them on their stairs when they controlled it. Also fighting Prince.

    Geonosian Labs - SWG

This was really my first experience of a dungeon in a multiplayer environment. The gameplay wasn't great, but i loved the design of it, it made me realise what is possible when focusing on a "set piece", which made me want to search out other set pieces, mainly so I could see the cool design and the big bosses.

When it comes to the gameplay of dungeons, LotRO wins for me. There was just a very clear progression: Barrow Downs, Garth Argewen, Fornost, Urugarth then Carn Dum. Each one bigger than the previous one. Each one more complex than the previous one. Each one more difficult than the previous one.

It was a great journey in terms of gameplay, I loved all the tactical options and the teamwork required. Barrow Downs was very much just tank and spank, but by the time you were doing Carn Dum you were executing very difficult strategies where individual player skill counted for way more than other factor.

I'd say it was the first time our little guild took an enemy keep in DAOC, in 2001.

    And Darkness Falls.

I had 3 specific dungeons from EQ1.  First, I had a lot of fun in Blackburrow (10-15).  Gnolls everywhere, and they came in trains.  After that, I ventured into Unrest (15-20) for an extended stay.  Still no dungeon zone like it anywhere.  As I grew. I became very familiar with Cazic Thule(25-30).  Probably my most memorable adventure there was 1 enchanter, 1 mage and 4 rangers in the sewers for close to four hours (back in the days when I was still doing 4 hour EQ sessions a night).

Blackburrow (Everquest)..Darkness Falls in DAoC later also great.  Best dungeons in any MMO ever that I have played (both small and large, indoor and outdoor) came later in Vanguard Saga of Heroes though.

What hooked me? The first Dungeons from Ultima Online then Blackburrow (Everquest). That's when I knew I loved MMORPG's.
