A small team is cranking out huge amounts of content for free. Amazing.

I am sure their work is financed by those purchasing the game, but it does show that every games business plan does not have to be rake it in from EA to Microtransactions.

Still a solo game where i can see other people, but not really play with them as a team.
    Still nothing thrilling to do.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I bought the game back at the beginning, and all of the updates are free. I'm amazed they aren't charging anything for all this new content.

I think he is saying that everyone who purchased the game has funded all the updates going forward.

It's not like people bought the game, they broke even and are now putting out content out of their own pocket.

Your purchase helped make all these updates possible. Along with others who purchased the game.

They still charge $60 (often half off on Steam) to buy the game so it really isn't free...it's just free once you make the purchase....but even so very generous of them to do what they do. WHen they added VR it actually broke the game for me. I can no longer play it.

What a news flash. Who would have thought that the work they are doing is being funded by the people paying for the work.

So far so fun from what I have seen so far.
Great stuff and the game keeps getting better and better.

I really want to see something done about the clunky wiring mess.  A futuristic base on a remote planet with wiring from the 1880s, something just isn't right with that.

What is notable is how it is funded, other studios will tell you their game can't be made without early access, loot boxes and other gambling purchases, costly expansions, an optional subscription, cosmetics etc. But this game keeps doing solid updates and dlc on a purely B2P model.

Agreed, it is amazing. It makes you wonder what they are doing differently. Clear direction on where they are heading with less red tape and people focused on achieving the same goal. They're not wasting time on all of what you stated as well, no time spent thinking about loot box implementation or cosmetics, pets etc.

I found the wiring to be.... discouraging.
There is some challenge to the system for sure. Its complexity also allows for crude logic circuits and some fantastic lighting and music. Doing something complex can be tricky though.

Some tips that I found helpful...
Can't find a good power source nearby? Build a small solar farm that powers a battery bank. Unless you plan to build a massive Mineral/Gas farm for Units then an EM Generator isn't really necessary.

Attaching a wiring connector to a wall powers a small area at that panel. Lights and pieces placed at that panel get power.

This little gem hides your wiring. I just tuck it out of the way usually in a closet near my battery bank or solar farm.

That may not alleviate your frustration but it goes a long way to providing a cleaner looking aesthetic.

The most frustrating thing I've encountered with wiring is moving/removing some wires that were misplaced.  It simply won't let me select that bit of wiring and delete it.

Do not do things you do not enjoy.

There are many parts to this game, take your time to find the ones you like and put most of your play time into those.

This is not an a to b to c game, other than the first tutorial part, to get you going,

After that, it really is up to you to find what you want to do, even if that is to follow the main quest line. or never to follow it.

One of the founding developers is the CEO, there is not a tier of executives trying to push new business plans for new revenue streams at every board meetings.

This reminds me of how MMOs started, a few programmers would form a company and make a MMO. Today studios filled with executives work on the revenue streams, the cash shop and so on before the game is even given a go ahead. They answer to share holders who expect to see larger amounts of profit each year, in the past this business first mentality was only seen the likes of giants like Nintendo or Microsoft, today every studio that is not indie is like that.
