Gods and Heroes: E3 2006 Preview

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

We met with Stieg Hedlund, the Design Director of Gods & Heroes, and Chris McKibbin, the Co-Founder and President of Perpetual Entertainment, at E3 and came away greatly impressed. Check out the preview:

image Gods & Heroes is an action adventure online role-playing game set in a mythological version of Republican Rome. Players are the sons and daughters of deities. They travel the world and build their own personal army as they take part in a mixture of group and single combat.

“We love myth based games,” said Chris McKibbin, the Co-Founder and President of Perpetual Entertainment, before rattling off a list of games from all genres that had inspired him.

Players have six base classes and twelve gods to choose from during character creation. Each class allows the player to choose between two gods to follow. The chosen god grants powerful magic in the form of God Powers. These are special, extremely strong abilities that players can use on special occasions. Regardless of the chosen class, as sons and daughters of Roman gods, players can ask for their help, provided they’re on good terms.

Agreed.. great preview and thanks for the write up.  It looks like from a development standpoint they've really tried to take their time and do this right.

The UI did look a little unpolished from the screenshot but that's simply a cosmetic fix.  The combat graphics however look absolutely amazing.

    Looking good!

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

hmm, so that means that no matter how good the game sounds, looks, or maybe even is... it'll be ruined shortly after retail.

oh well, maybe they'll get a relationship with a real gaming company before retail?

    edited to add:

    we can hope~!!

if you have an actual opinion about a game or gaming company, perhaps you should share it?

You would think SOE being involved would be very low key, just like any involvement with Vangaurd.  They have pissed a lot of poeple off lately and any messing around with the game will be watched very closely - by the developers and fans alike.

So I don't see as a big deal for this game or Vangaurd to have SOE burn some CD's and make some ads, etc.  The problem will come a few months or a year from now when their lack of messing has lead to the games being hits and SOE wants to change the formula with their vast knowledge.

But for launch and most likely the first 6months to a year the games will be safe, and they look great and I am sure SOE sees them as the new way to get them back on track.

This game seems like everquest archetypes we know and love and are comfortable with in a cool world with the added squad based fighting we know from rpg type games - could be a nice blend of what we know and something just a little new.

    ---MMO EXPERIENCE:---
    WoW - 06-2006 to current
    COV - 40 Corruptor - 10-2005 to 04-2006
    COH - 50 Scrapper - 04-2004 to 04-2006
    EQ2 - 35 Barb Berserker - 12-2004 to 04-2005
    EQ1 - 55 Barb Warrior - 2000, 2001
Tried: DaoC, DDO, Auto Assault, SWG, Lineage II

after the way they have ruined just SWG.  not to mention ANYTHING else... i have no intention of ever doing anything that will give SOE good press or that even has the potential of giving them any money whatsoever.

I suspect that SOE will insert themselves into the product after it's initial distribution and a player base has been established. It could either be a financial buy-in so that they have more of a say than they initially did or simply buy the product outright from the current developers, depending on the situation. This isn't to say that ANY MMO is safe from SOE's greed and need to have certain games within the market. Even MMO's that have no SOE tie-in could end up in the hands of SOE, but the ones that start with a relationship are more likely to be absorbed by SOE.

    so...

    Yes.

    False.

It is Sony Platform Publishing, which is a completely separate company from Sony Online Entertainment.

EDIT:  And by company I mean division ;-)  They are both still Sony.

The servers, content, support and everything except the distribution and publishing lie completely in Perpetual Entertainment's capable hands.
