I've been really impressed with the Turbine team and how they interact with their community.
They also are very careful with the game and the lore so I trust they will integrate pvp in a way that doesn't undo all the work they have done to create a living Middle Earth.
Between the books and the films, Lord of the Rings has a huge built in fan base that is not, sadly for the geezer population, all mature college professor types who correct everyone's grammar and spelling and who cite Tolkien in their sleep.
People communicate in different ways. As long as you can get the jist of their conversation, why complain? And as I've said many times, age is no guarantee you will be a good player or bad, let the *kiddies* hang out with you, maybe you'll learn something! Maybe you will have fun! Maybe they have more to offer than you might think just by writing them off for some trait they have no control over *doh*.
The reason why its "duelling" is because, basically, the Elves and Hobbits couldn't have the sort of open PVP that most people are talking about. Smeagol only killed Deagol in the presence of the single most potent and distilled avatar of evil and malice existing in the world at that time. It was all the native strength of Sauron to rule and order the natural world... All three slayings of Elves by Elves in any organized way were at the command of Feanor and his sons (I don't think even the guards on the marches of Lorien killed other Elves, they seemed to accept Legolas' presence demurely).
Even the Dwarves are kind of a toss up, there were/are other Dwarf populations but they seem to be pretty distant. The people of the Iron Hills (and therefore the lonely Mountain) are related to Thorin, who basically came from Erad Luin (and is ultimately of the race of Durin) if I remember correctly. Practically all the Dwarves in the area they're putting in are fleeing to the Blue Mountains (or coming from there for whatever reason), in any event.
If we're actually going to be picky about Lore, I think the only exclusively evil race that is remotely playable is the Uruk-Hai. Run of the mill Goblins, in vast numbers, consistently got routed by smaller numbers of Humans. The Misty Mountain goblins were even weaker, based on the interactions in the Treason of Isengard. The Orcs of Mordor were utterly wtfpwned on the field of Cormallen, thats for sure. Lets not forgot that Orcs got even weaker in sunlight, and Trolls were turned to stone. Uruk-Hai, at least, were roughly matched with normal humans and could function effectively in daylight.
I honestly don't know what MEO's PVP vision was, only that there was a good and (relatively) evil branching for each profession. A human semi-mage class could become a sort of Sage/Shaman deal for healing/enheartening or a Necromancer, for instance.

A little late to this one but, Hobbits killed Hobbits, and Humans killed Elves and vice versa.
Read the Silmarillion to see just how everyone took a chance to kill everyone.
Also, you only have to watch the first 3 minutes of Return of the King on DvD to see a Hobbitcide.

VEry good point. I agree.
