To say New World was highly anticipated is an understatement. Launching this morning, New World has seen the normal MMO launch day woes of long log-in queues and server instability, thanks in part to over 700K players trying to hit Amazon's servers conccurently right now.

No trials. No tricks. No traps. No EU-RP server. NO THANKS!

Ha I made a deal with the wifey today to pick the kid up from school so I could get home early. I feel like it will be in vain.
I've now spent 213 minutes in the same queue. Godspeed when you finally hop in.
Players online :419.673
players on queue: 346.759
LOL
Will check back in a couple weeks how many people are still left, if I am going to bother buying it again.
Amazon really screwed the pooch on this one. Especially since they run AWS, you would have thought they have more than enough hardware to run some more servers.
I fully understand you don't want to open up too many servers, BUT!
1. Over 75% of your current playerbase sitting in a queue is EPIC FAIL. No other way around it.
2. They already have a Cross Server group systems in place, so they can easily merge servers in the future. Hence the Global name lock system.
So again, no harm opening up more servers so people don't have to sit in an eternal queue!
This is a sure fire way to create the largest refund bonanza on Steam right now and tank your review score along with it. /shrug

but I won't be bothering to try and play for a few days.
If there is one thing they should be good at is hosting and server scaling!
There is literally no excuse here for having over 75% of the players sitting in hours long queues. Over 25% of the servers have over 20 hour queues even and the most popular ones (ones that opened first) .....hold it.... over 200+ hour queues.
This is not going away in a day or two. They need to remove the ridiculous 2000 player cap per server.
It's stupid that an MMO from 15+ years ago could run 10k+ player cap servers, but Amazon in 2021 cannot cope with more than 2000 per server.
The lack of PvE at this time is enough to warrant waiting to maybe try it in the Future once PvE Content catches up to this gorgeous looking Game.
I wish all the NW Fans great fun and fortune.

Also wish I would have saved the post of the idiot who said only 10k people would be playing this game lol.
So you expected Amazon to have a better launch than 99% of every other MMO? Interesting standard...and not arguing with you.
They did drop a ton of new servers, and without instancing technology, there is no way a server is big enough to handle that many people...so is it design or their tech side you feel is at fault?
I'm with you.
I mean seeing the server streamer list, I think it was pretty obvious that they were going to have massive overcrowding on multiple servers. Hearing from friends about the streamers who were complaining that they couldn't get in...had me giggling a bit. I mean really...you expected different?
Amazon was pretty smart to drop the 15-20 new servers a few hours after launch, but I'd be surprised if they don't make the decision to do at least that many again in the next 24 hours. The reality in all this is that their marketing worked, it's a AAA MMO, and it's been awhile since we have seen one. It's going to do pretty damn well...at least for awhile.
And with them offering free server transfers in a couple of weeks...eh...it was an easy call for me to jump to one of the new ones, start again, and just be able to play..still with a queue, but no real pain.

So when New world shuts down it'll be what, 5 for 5? How many game titles have they canceled/had to shut down now? 4, 5?
Fishing on Gilgamesh since 2013
Fishing on Bronzebeard since 2005
Fishing in RL since 1992

Oh, they are shutting down?
Good to know.
That's my server unfortunately, I played the same in beta. Ima give up for the next week. Pops will die down as people transfer out.
