You make it sound interesting Mitch. Good job!

I had no interest when I first heard of it (being the habitual murder hobo that I am in MMOs) but now I feel like checking it out.

Call me stupid: I will read this article after having my own first impression. I have so much hope for this one that I don't want to be influenced.

I am loving this game despite the bugs which even I have seen plenty of. One of which is that I was waiting for a boat for 20 minutes. Thought it might be on a real time clock. Could fine no answers on the internet. So logged off. When I logged back on twenty minutes or so later and loaded up not only was there more NPC's in the area but the boat appeared when a few minutes. That has happend to me a few times now where NPC's wont load and I have to log off and log back in. However, that is in there known problems list so hopefully it gets fixed soon.

The combat system is pretty cool and I hope its get built on in the future. The only thing I am nervous about is the permadeath system. In a MMO the thought of playing for 100's of hours and for your character to die 3 times and than be gone forever scares me. I know there is a way to get lives back but haven't hit that far so don't know how expensive it is. However, they did also say that they are not married to the permadeath system and a lot of people share my concern so that could be something that is changed later.

All in all though I am having a great time just exploring, talking to NPCs, and interacting with others when I get the chance. Though the no chat bar does make it hard sometimes. Def when your trying to lead someone to a group puzzle.

I mean I haven't even started the main quest yet and doesn't seem like I will for quite some time as Might and Delight said that you get it from a courier that shows up randomly. Meaning you could play for hours before even being pushed into the story.

Everything I hoped for so far just a few kinks to iron out.

I'm not too worried about the permadeath. At least not yet. It's pretty obvious whether you are outmatched as soon as you get into a fight and the flee option allows you to run away.

Imagine like Baldurs Gate but you dont have a Pause option, so its real time but there is Initiative as a stat that shows whos gonna attack first and Speed which determines how fast you attack. But, you have to decide when you're gonna attack, aka click the Attack button... Anyway, its real time, but methodical.

    Couple of things...

    1) If a boat doesn't show up in like 2 or 3 minutes you have to change server, that means boats are bugged on that server. No other solution for now, we got to wait for a fix.

    2) I dont believe they will change the permadeath system, its intertwined with the whole game, you get life petals back fairly easily, you just need to find a way how. Hint: You have three ways how to get them back. Most of them are easy, one might be harder, but still, its not awful or anything. Plus, when you die you become a ghost, for now there is no way for you to return to the living world once you become ghost, but it will be there in the future.

    3) The main quest doesnt start on random, the very first person that talks to you tells you to "look for a temple in Bat Saha"... just follow that, that works as a "main quest line" even though you can do whatever you want. Also, you HAVE to learn the language of the region to know how to read stuff, up until then everything will be worded with "????"... thats also a part of the main quest line.... Bat Saha is important.

The game is amazing for me and everything i had hoped for since the Kickstarter ended..

I'm really glad people are enjoying it. I bought it today to back the developers because I've had my eye on it for a long time but didn't invest as I was worried it might end up as good concepts and intentions that didn't translate to satisfying gameplay.

I'm going to wait a week or so to play it though. I'm excited about it but I also have other things to keep me busy and hopefully they can squash bugs in the meantime. I'll wait even longer if need be, I'd like it to be stable before I hop in so I can just let the game wash over me.

Interestingly write up, but definitely holding off on this one until it comes out of early access, sometime in 2026 or 27 maybe?

Bah no, I'll have forgotten all about it by then ....my memory just isn't what it used to be.
