Path of Exile: Scourge Expansion Detailed: A Hellish Challenge in the Balance | MMORPG.com
Grinding Gear Games revealed a lot more about the Path of Exile: Scourge expansion, and the content will have you slaying demons and making some hard choices.
One of these days I am going to play this game and get further than helping Tarkleigh get the medicine chest. I always play till that mission and for some reason things come up
That's funny because I'm in the same boat as you. It seems like a good match for me game wise but I just cant get going with it and I've started a few times. Each time enjoying it then finding myself busy with other things.
Well it looks like they are making some good changes, but I'm not quite ready to jump back on that horse. It's still going to be an absurd time sink. Chris Wilson is all excited for Hard Mode, but I'd sure love to see them add a more casual and rewarding mode.
I doubt I'm the only one hoping that Last Epoch, Lost Ark or D4 replace POE.

True APRG's have never catered to casual player's unless you can count Diablo 3, which I don't.
If you want to get ahead in a ARPG it requires lots of time and effort, I hope it will always be this way.
While the game has now been made easier for casuals to reach endgame content, Atlas split into 4 instead of 8, 16 watchstones instead of 32, 100 maps from 160, the true endgame content at least in Scourge will require serious time and investment in your character to be able to complete the uber versions of Blights, Breaches, Wave 21-30 in Simulacrums etc.

Then by your definition true ARPGs are POE and maybe D2. Titan Quest, Torchlight, D3, Grim Dawn, Wolcen, Van Helsing, WH40K martyr Inquisitor are the norm in the genre.
I can accomplish a lot more in D2 than I can in the same time for POE. POE is bloated with overcomplicated system on top of system. Last Epoch seems like it may become a nice middle ground between D2 and POE. Lost Ark is more MMO than ARPG with unrewarding incremental upgrades after a certain point.
POE really needs an alternative league where they try to streamline what they have for once. Stop trying to force player retention for everyone. Leave that to the players that want a hard league.

I like Path of Exile but end game is insane and I have given up.
