It kind of sounds more complicated than it really is and is pretty much what they've been doing since around stormblood or so when a new expansion lands. Pretty much, all the stuff you're able to buy now, will just be buyable with poetics instead when Endwalker lands, so its kind of a good idea to go into Endwalker with almost full poetics so you can get that 80 gear fast that you might've missed before (its also good to have a khloe book ready for turn in the week before the expansion for the exp and 500 poetics). Also keep in mind too that the gear will already be upgraded (no twine, etc), but you should be able to upgrade the ones you might have not had to time to do before then with poetics as well (from 520 to 530, not everyone likes farming all 3 of the 24 mans for the upgrade items).

The article title made it sound like they were making drastic changes to the currencies, but this has been something that has happened since A Realm Reborn.

A new expansion has always brought new tomestones into it's dungeon update cycles, which then backends the previous expansions tomestones to poetics.

Scripts have been given the same treatment throughout expansions.

These games are nothing alike, so be prepared to be disappointed in that aspect. But from the teaser trailer, reaper looked pretty cool, so I am pretty excited. Pile of crap is a bit much, there are far worse games out there.

Pretty much this. The only things that end up carrying over from XI to XIV are usually just names like "Apocalypse," "Guillotine," other note-worthy job names. That said, I do like the mobility of this job and the theme is pretty cool.
