I feel like they will be joining Pantheon in daily posts. Gonna make something, not gonna be anything soon, but wanna post about it and/or want you to buy a subscription. Guess I have a bitter taste in my mouth.

That "team first, then players" notion has me wanting to stay far, far away from these guys. If the players aren't first, if the gameplay isn't designed with each individual player in mind, if there isn't personal passion from each "team member" of Notorious... then their games won't be for me or a large number of others out there just looking for good game mechanics that you can play solo as well as multiplayer--when you wish. Their statement reeks of social fears, collectivism, and the idea that the group supersedes any individual.

What "they" never seem to realize is that there IS no group without the individual. Instead of forcing cooperation and group play or interactivity they should be encouraging it and leaving the choices up to the individual players as much as is possible. Let us be who we will be. The only time there should be interference is when there is possible physical harm to others. The interference of corporations, devs, and activists has reached the breaking/boiling point for me and I refuse to be a part of any IP that takes my rights and freedom and tramples on it in the name of "niceness" and virtue signaling. I'm so glad I saw this article and that quote or I might have been misled. At least for a while.

I will take my ball and go play elsewhere.

There are more ex-Blizzard employees than current ones these days, I wonder what the next company that forms from them will be called? 'Really Notorious'?

"We aspire to have that flatter structure where we don’t have a rigid hierarchy. Harassment usually comes from a subordinate-superior sort of relationship. We’re hoping that flatter structure can address some of those problems.”

So everybody is a Boss...and no one is a worker bee...that should work right?

Or could it be that they are just doing what every company/politician does, trying to promise everything and deliver nothing?

Would have more respect for them if they just came out and said they are here to make games for all the cash we can get.

Know what I care about?? Can you make a game I want to play that is fun. Pretty much it...

Sounds promising. I mean WoW was good when game was built from world perspective and these guys are promising exactly that. Funny thing is that this is already 2nd "Blizzard veterans" studio.

I saw someone recently bitching and calling it dumb design in New World reddit because NW's main quest line sends you into group dungeons 3 or 4 times as a required step. Pretty mild stuff by old MMO standards.

Guys, its not rocket science .. do a web search next time you are looking for a cool name for your company:

Notorious: "famous or well known, typically for some bad quality or deed."

... Why on earth would ex devs of a company thats getting dragged through the mud recently concerning sexual, racial and gender problems name themselves "Notorious"?

    Good luck with that.

It was the name of their in-game guild.

Just echoing what others have basically said here but being a "Blizzard Veteran" is no longer the badge of honor it once was... Regardless, a new studio and hopefully new ideas. I look forward to seeing what they put out.

If the first and foremost thing out of your game company is about virtue signaling as opposed to actually showcasing a game or even an idea for a game, that's a really bad sign.

What's the point of telling everyone "OK this is team first, players second yo". If an oil company said "OK This is company first, customers second yo" everyone would be setting their hair on fire and running around in a circle. This sounds like a bunch of snowflakes who are making a new studio. Yeah, great. Do you have a video game? Trying to capitalize on social media wokeness, with no actual product. Good luck!

Because people no longer have to sit, stare into the void, and do nothing. Now you got your smart phone, which has made you extra smart wink wink. Everything has to be in two syllables and quickly done, once, forever. Even sex. People just want to say Yes/No to sex and under the pretense of being "wild" just get on with it and move on.

Interestingly, Dark Souls came along, and people got into it. That shows people feels the need somewhere hidden deep in themselves for patience, for effort, for a tad more meaningful achievements, it's just tons of that crap has been dumped above it.

Former Blizzard devs .. That could be good or bad.
If they use their experience to produce more of the same design they learned at Blizzard, then bleh.
If they want to make something different that they were never allowed to do at Blizzard, then yay.
Experience is both a blessing and a curse.. Ability to deliver is more likely, being stuck in certain ways of thinking also more likely.

I feel like Iselin's post really misses the issue and the complaint. It isn't just 4 dungeons and access isn't like classic MMORPGs. If you played and experienced this I don't think you would so flippantly mock others' frustrations.

In classic MMORPGs you walked to a dungeon, entered the dungeon, and tackled the mobs and content. Very early MMORPGs, like Lineage 1, didn't even have a story to stumble over and dungeons were optional content that offered good rewards.

In New World if you don't progress through a dungeon you literally can't progress a key aspect of your character, the Azoth Staff.

Dungeons in New World can't simply be accessed either. They require a special Orb tuned to that dungeon in order to enter. If players don't finish in the 3 hour time limit or if people leave and the group can't finish, then the Orb is wasted and lost.

The Orbs take several different crafting professions and a uncommon and a single rare material to craft. The rare material is only obtainable through an open world group event and not everyone will get the material.

So, not only do you need to get a decent group together to enter the dungeon, you need a decent group to do the corruption event to even craft the orb to open the dungeon portal. Then you need to find people who can do the dungeon.

New World isn't group friendly, it's guild friendly. So people in Iselin's position have a much smoother time and I can see how they might see this complaint as simple whinging, but there is a lot more to it than that and it's only mild stuff for power guilds. For everyone else it's a huge struggle just to get the opportunity to do the content. I think that's going to bite AGS and New World as people aren't going to stick around.

There is a similar issue with faction loyalty and town citizenship in that some few guilds benefit, while everyone else doesn't. In fact those "everyone" people feed the few guilds via territory/town taxes with no real return on their investment. That wears on the experience.
Maybe it's your server or maybe your role but I have run every expedition up to dynasty (that one is a bitch because it's way out of the way and requires running through or around a level 62 elite area to get to so many run it just once and forget about it) several times and 90% of those times it has been in a PUG advertising for a healer on recruitment chat,

In fact I could do nothing other than run expeditions all day long if that's what I wanted to do.

I'm also not a fan of the requirement to have an orb to enter dungeons and have posted here many times about my dislike of the system both before and after the game's release. But at least only one of the 5 party members need that orb and in most of my runs whoever wanted a healer (that's me) to join them already had an orb.

Sounds like you're not having a good experience getting into expeditions but for me it has very little to do with the guild I'm in since most of my dungeon runs are PUGs.

Get this, in ESO the only way to get dungeon and trial gear is to actually run them, heck sometimes you have to defeat the final boss on veteran level, WTF is up with that?

Nary a cash shop option in sight either...

Don't they understand their audience these days?

I read that "team first, then players" to mean 'business first, then customers'.  I'm predicting an extensive cash shop, with all manner of sneaky, new ways to separate the customers from their wallets.

But 'grouping first, then solo' is just as bad.  It encourages a forced grouping and a 'group to accomplish' mentality.  Grouping is okay.  Forced grouping isn't.
