    And fixed...

Earlier today, we discovered an issue where players were able to post images and other links in the chat that resulted in unsavory behaviour.

We have enabled a fix that should resolve this issue and prevent players from abusing and exploiting this feature. This should already be enabled in each region.

Well thats good news .. that something that could have gone S very quick .. Good work by them
"this feature", you have to ask why was this a 'feature', do devs use chat box coding to build a game?
Perhaps it's something useful when testing the game and they forgot to turn it off before shipping a recent patch?

I'm a bit surprised such a big hole wasn't discovered much sooner, makes me think it was more recent addition, same for the screen shake thing, hard to believe it wasn't discovered and exploited back in beta.

Unless of course they were but players kept their mouths shut in order to use it to their best advantage before everyone else figured it out.

The chat needs to have coding for different font sizes, colors, etc. It's easier to use a ready-made language like HTML for those, as opposed to creating your own system.

Then it looks like they just failed to make sure that player chat messages isn't treated as HTML too.

Hmmm well you wouldn't want to be the guy with that post it note on his desk, "Turn off chat HTML for launch." :)

When i first saw the sausage in my chat box I thought it was a graphical glitch because I had sausages in my bag. Then it happened while I was running around mining and it just made me burst out laughing. Didn't realize the extent of the issue, but to have an image of sausages randomly appear was pretty jokes.

Got to 60, played around a bit with the non existing end game (which is pretty much a random Korean grinder from 2003) and discovered so many bugs and broken design decisions I quit. This game is basically a bunch of bugs held together by duct tape and rubber bands, and I doubt it can be salvaged.

That and the terrible game play that makes every surface feel like ice and you keep getting knocked around and stuck behind every architectural entity there is. As a tank you have pretty much zero control over your character. It's like getting in the ring with Mike Tyson, only you have to wear ice skates. And the ring is ice.

Before long the player base will be sub 100k.

Not fixed at all. They are not just incompetent but also liars.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

Damn I wish i was online for that lol

I was. Multiple times today even.

But now that server is fked as everyone migrated to it and has a queue of 1k players for 2k playing spots. Sausages come with a price:)

Honestly, the sausage thing was one of the funniest moments in chat. It's a shame that it can be exploitive as it was one of the few things bringing folks together in global chat.

I never experienced the problem as I mute all chat because of gold spammers and other low IQ comments. How pathetic is a person to actually enjoy ruining the game for others? I hope the accounts are banned.
  • AkulasAkulas Member RarePosts: 3,029
The problem is being booted out and the kiddy porn or my malware program going skitzo from a hovered over link. The other stuff is just annoying and hilarious but harmless.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

This seems likely to be a straightforward case of using some external library for the chat box without understanding what it can do.  If they wrote their own code for the chat box, why would they even implement this?

I bet there were far more exciting things than a sausage that were linked after this discovery.

You know, I tried to warn the community about how many issues/bugs/exploits this game was launching with and it was met with hostility and reports. My last account was banned for being a bot? ... like what?

Anyway, the issue for me is how many of these problems were present and reported during testing. I’m glad some are having fun, not hard to get your moneys worth out of the title it just gets tiring to see so many teams release games when they are well aware they are in a bad state and full of issues.

Using this as a PVP tactic made me chuckle. I remember in UO around '98 there was the brief period of PVP guilds having a few teammates spam massive walls of W's (overhead chat) to block the opposing team's view of the battle.

    Welcome to the forums! :)

Skitzo it is possible any of us reported you as an adbot, I typically do that a couple of times a day. If your first post was short and did not seem to have much to do with the thread then it is not unlikely one of us may have reported you. Sorry if that happened, good to see you just came back and cracked on posting.

I'm guessing that a lot of posters in this thread don't know that the only chat channel available in the PvP that matters in this game, the 50 v 50 wars for territory control, are restricted to the war chat channel that only their own side can see. I suppose a very dumb troll that wants to be blacklisted from all future wars ever on that server by only screwing up their own side's visibility could do it though :)

Even then no one uses text chat in wars since they're all on voice anyway.

    Cool story though.

I mean, in order for a war to occur you do need to push a territory into conflict which with opposition is done through open world pvp.

Not to be that guy... I doubt this bug had any detrimental effects on the war effort. Some of the other bugs have had a major impact on wars though.

Not really through open world PvP in my experience.

Territories are thrown into conflict by zergs doing PvP quests unopposed 99% of the time. That's how you throw a territory into conflict not by going out and doing casual world PvP for funsies.

Yeah I imagine that’s what the majority have experienced as well. Luckily we have had some huge open world pvp battles when attempting to push/defend territory conflict bars. Good times when they do happen.

I saw that during the first couple of weeks but most territory holders realized it's almost totally futile to try to oppose the pushes since whoever wanted to do it got organized and coordinated ahead of time with 50-100 PvP quest zergers and defenders try to rally without prior planning when it happens.

I have seen some pushes thwarted but it's very rare against a coordinated push.
