Good bones only get you so far. The graveyards are full of good bones.

No mention of Invasions nor of Expeditions? Not to mention no real discussion on crafting or the "HWMS" when you reach level 60? Additionally, new content in incoming including new enemies and events. This review is really incomplete in my opinion.

There was a mention. Invasion were mentioned in the article:

"...PvE invasions that can downgrade a settlement"

Expeditions were the third "Pro" bullet point:

"Expeditions are excellent - more of these"

That said, I think it was probably worth a slightly higher grade as some of the stuff just appear to be "just released MMO" gripes that come up on every release. Not to say I would have scored it too much higher. Amazon seems like they have the personnel and resources to have avoided some of the issues.

It's fun (to me), but I get where people are coming from on bugs/exploits and their own fun factor.

Just waiting for the post telling us that a 6.0 was a shill review. :)

I imagine they will do a follow up review next year, they certainly will feature new content as it comes out.

Crafting is the only thing that works close to as intended.

They designed an entire game, and its world around PvP and just turned off the PvP.

They have not actually addressed any of the gameplay issues that is dragging the game down, that has seen around 80% of the player stop playing.

There is no clear direction for this game.  Is it a pvp game?  Is it a survival game?  Is a crafting game?  Is it a loot grinder?  If it's a loot grinder, wtf is the point in all the crafting?

It does nothing well, or with clear direction.

It is naive to think that this studio will fix something they NEVER DID PROPERLY FROM THE OUTSET!   THINK about what that means!

If you ask me to paint you a picture and I do it wrong twice, and the only thing you think works is the color pallete, you wouldn't assume I could paint it properly....

No one should be assuming AGS can fix what they have yet to actually do properly.

The same guys in charge of doing it wrong, are still in charge, and nothing has been fixed post one month of launch.

The game is client side authoritive. Nothing else really needs to be said. It's like letting my mobile banking app control how much money I have in my account.

I see no reason why games direction cannot be PvP, survival, crafting and loot grinder. but they do not seem to have drawn the various gameplay elements into a holistic whole. I am not as pessimistic about the games future, it just needs time but a lot of it, I won't be looking again at joining until the end of next year.

For the amount they spent on it I give it a 3 and that's only because it works/ got it out the door.  This should of been a showcase of what's possible but instead we get a pile of shit that looks like it was outsourced to the lowest bidder.

I would say shame on you amazon but I know they have no reflection and thus will feel no shame.

I agree with the score of a 6, but to me the expeditions belong in the cons list. Didn't enjoy trying to get groups together to do them at all. Having collision turned on in them also made playing a melee character no fun at all. Having to constantly run around my own group just to get a single hit in got old fast. I ran the first few expeditions because I was forced to, never touched them again nor will I.

As the game is now it is a life skill game. If you like life skill then you will enjoy the game. If you don't enjoy grinding out life skills you will get tired of the repetitive quest system pretty fast most likely. PvP for the most part has been a joke in the game, just death balls rolling around killing each other. No skill really, just broken systems that people abused.

Leave New World Aloooooone .. shes perfect ..

Yea 6 is high a 4.5 imo and falling  , NW is in an Alpha state still  full of bugs, exploits missing and incomplete features.. lack of content , challenge and a cohesive game loop ..

I feel the 6 is fair depending on what you want to take from the game. If they can keep tackling things fast and get many of the things sorted (although, I feel they need to do something about the client and have everyone download a new one), it'll be okay in the long run, but that's really only if they address things quickly.

Seems like a fair review. I would probably give it like a 5 cause I think the combat is bad though.

6 is a fair number at this stage and it's pretty well where I would rate it ATM.

It does have a solid foundation to eventually be a very good game but it isn't there yet.

The main problem in my opinion, and it's a very big problem, is that the integrity of the most basic and fundamental part of the game, territory control by factions, was undermined by all the ridiculously easy to do exploits that were used to win wars. The benefits of your company or faction owning and developing territories is too important in NW to just shrug off the exploits.

You can dissect all the individual bugs and imbalances but at the end of the day it's all about the integrity of competition and players obviously can't be trusted to not exploit what is exploitable. Competitive integrity has to be enforced by bug-free, tight code and if it isn't there the whole competition falls apart.

I'd say the consensus of reviews I have seen say the game is good to great for a short time, then about a month or so they are done with it.

if you need more in depth you can check out lazy peon's videos, its pretty good demonstrating what grinding to max level is like, and other people asked , he showed some invasions, a couple PVP sieges and stuff.

They can fix all the bugs and add more content and I would have been fine and even waited a good amount of time...The thing I cant forgive is them slapping people on the wrist for major exploits that would cripple the economy or have major effects on wars. When I saw that people in my faction who had used major exploits like dupes and winning multiple wars with exploits had come back and were in chat after just 24hrs, I shut the game down immediately and haven't turned it on since.

You can claim that if you just play casual none of this stuff has any effect on you but you would be 100% wrong and absolutely ignorant of what is happening. When a territory changes hands through exploits it has a resounding effect on the crafting/economy server wide. When people dupe a rare item in mass to the point where it drives the markets down into the dirt...it has an effect on everyone. People grind for hundreds of hours with the goal of maybe getting their first full voidbent armor suit and then see someone selling a stack of void ingots for dirt cheap in chat after a 24hr ban, it just makes you feel like you have wasted all your time and that no meaningful punishment of any kind is coming to these people. If you don't give a shit about your game then neither should I...

I just hit lvl 60 yesterday, i agree with the the review. It is a nice looking game, some cheap features, but rather generic.

I cant see myself playing past a few more days, i didnt even want to log on yesterday.

I look at the game kind of like the lowest tier of Lexus cars, looks nice, but at the end of the day, just another toyota with makeup.

I generally dont really play MMO's much due to lack of innovation, i played this one becauase of a RL friend who wanted to play and it had name recognition from Amazon.

Id rate it a 6.5 and the 0.5 only because it is likely to improve due to amazon resources.

Never, ever buy or play released games just because you think they'll get better in the future.  You might see ways that the game could get better, but it's likely not going to happen.  Instead, wait a while and see if the game actually does get better, and then buy or play it only if it does.  Otherwise, you're likely to end up wasting time and money on a bad game, waiting for improvements that never come.

6 is very reasonable even when your enjoying the game.. You can just tell its very shallow and lacking anything to make it more than average at best.

6 is very reasonable but I give it a 7 b/c I am really enjoying the game! Shallow Hal here. LOL

So many games release half baked these days. Amazon could afford to let it cook longer and release with a bang rather than a whimper in terms of content.

They could have given it another 6 months and I think they still would've had all the exploits and issues they are still running into today.

It feels like for all the veteran devs AGS hired they're still an infant studio with little experience in running a game or QA.
