Warhammer - Other Thoughts

This is my first post on this site so if i am repeating anything please ignore me

With all the hype towards this game not many people are taking into consideration what type of PC you will need to run this game. All the screenshots and trailers are looking superb, but i'm guessing the PC where they were taken from was a high end spec.

I'm just hoping Mythic remember not everyone has a top of the line PC to play games with, so include options to reduce graphic levels, as i dont want to be playing with poor frame rate, which in turn makes me bored of the game, then forces me to quit the game, which then endangers the population rapidly!

Is there any news of what the recommended and required spec's are yet?

im not sure if theres anything out which recommends specs.... its kind of early ...

but being a decent judge of PC hardware id probably recommend ( keep in mind i have no affiliation with mythic and i have no idea what they have up their sleeves or what the game will need this is pure speculation )

but your best bet is probably ..

buy a high end 939 athlon 64 at least ...

buy 2 gigs of the fastest ram you can put ( so put consideration into the mobo .. ddr2 at least )

harddrive doesnt really matter but its always nice to go 10k sata ( in the least you can go for a hitachi 8.5 seek  7200 rpm )

and id go with the highest end video card i could get ( you probably shouldnt buy lower than a 800xt or a 7800 ultra ... if you can go sli go sli )

Well remember, the screenshots they are going to give everyone are probably at their Max graphics settings, since they want everyone to see it at its best. You will always be able to turn down the settings, turn off shadows, etc.

As for what specs, not much has been said. The only thing I know is that it will be using AGEIAS 'Physx' engine, and getting a Physics card probably won't be required, but I would look into getting one since it might start being required for other games more high-end.

I agree with the 2gig requirement on the ram, and the processsor too. No way do I think you need a 10,000rpm hard drive though if you're just upgrading to play some MMO's. You also won't need a super high-end graphics card either. An older 6800 ultra, or GT will run this game on max settings I'm sure of it. I agree you probably do want sli though, as AGP is outdated even as I write this, and I doubt we see this game before '08.

If they are making it available on the Xbox2.. just look there for the specs.

But I doubt they'd make it TOO high end. Don't want to alienate the player base. Sure, I might buy a new GFX card or more ram for Warhammer, most won't.

well we cant forget that the game is due for release end of 2007 IF its on time, which is over a year away. In a years time, 2gb RAM will be the norm on PC's and Graphics crad will have advanced even further. So i'm guessing most people will have to upgrade their PC's for this game, even with the graphics toned down.

With DAOC the min recommended RAM is 1gb and thats for a game over 4 years old!

I just hope they dont pile loads and loads of graphics in the game that requires everyone to upgrade their PC's to fully enjoy it

If you can run DAoC then you can most likely run WAR too. Same engine but upgraded. Doubt the requirements will be a lot higher than DAoCs and DAoC doesn't look all THAT bad these days.

All games nowadays have performance sliders.  If you have an old clunker and can't run games with all the bells and whistles on, it's no big deal to turn the eye candy off.

For all of the MMOs that I've played, maximum clip plane is the only graphical feature I need to have maxxed to have an enjoyable experience.  Everything else is fluff.  Pretty fluff, but fluff none the less.

Plus GW doesn't have their own brand of computers; if they did I'd fully expect it to be set so that you have to get a brand new GWium to play.

also remember though these are early screenshots ... they are proly gonna be polishing up the graphics quite a bit in a year's time ( thats assuming of course they release on time )

Exactly why I'm reading about Warhammer and watching TV than reading about Warhammer and trying out EQ2.

Although I will probably be upgrading when I can (my comps kinda old), I usually don't do it just for 1 game.

Maybe if they gave me the game free if I updated my computer to play it and pay the subscription.

Your right but lets look at catocombs it probaly going to be its Minium requirments x2 or something but is a year away Window Vista is going to be out and hopefully its not requiring it

It won't require you to have vista.
WAR will have close spec requirements to WoW now. Keep in mind this is a polished engine. Not some SOE crap engine. They've used this engine for a long time and know how to crank the good stuff out.
Also, they are going with a low polycount (not as low as WoW) with high res textures. This will drop the system requirements dramatically. Through in the optimization of the engine they are using and you have a recipe that will easy on many computers.

When the system specs get released I think everyone will be surprised on the requirements and the fact that they aren't astronomical.
