The combat theory-crafting looks fun, the world looks interesting, the PvPvE is also worth trying, yet I am not really sure why, I dropped after less hours than I expected.
I guess the graphics did not satisfied me enough or maybe it is just the lack of originality. Or maybe I did not have enough faith in its success.

Something in these lines.
Elyon, formally Ascent Infinite Realm.
I had my eye on this game, because I liked the steam punk setting, but, then it dropped off my radar, and.... I just forgot about it.
NGL, the idea that the game was interwoven with PvP, was not a sell point for me, so there is that.

I tried Elyon, I actually was excited about zones where 100+ vs 100+ players fought each other. The progression system is very interesting and unique.
However, a couple things killed it for me:
People at end game that loved the game, were mostly going to open world mob grind locations... rounding up mobs (with other players) and mass nuking the mobs for their entire play sessions. That was the big thing to do. Hence the term we use around here... Korean Grinder (I don't mind if you like that, just not my type of game).
Second, the lore and atmosphere just didn't grab me. I didn't feel like I gave a crap about anything, just being mechanical with my toon.
Finally, there were only 2 North American servers... at the recent launch... one was dead, the other dying... super small population for a launch ...
Keep in mind I put several hundred hours into New World when Eylon launched, and my New World server went from queues (over the 2k player server cap trying to log in)... to a paltry 200 players at peak in <2 months. So I didn't want to invest time to a new mmorpg just for it to be dead in <6 months. No thanks.
However, Elyon has a lot of solid systems and content. Truthfully, New World did taint my desire to give a new mmorpg a few hundred hours of my precious gaming time (or more).
Any game with action combat has a fatal flaw since I cannot play them. Not really the topic but that is from my personal point of view. Fatal because I literally cannot play them.

Good insight. Thank you.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

I always read it as 'Nigel' and the following statement in British accent and to be honest it makes much more sense!

I can sum it up with those two things. When they combine it gets even worse. I was playing EverQuest a year or two ago on the progression server. Got a shaman with his epic and was in Seb when I was informed the necros camping the hierophants cloak were bots who had been there for days that our entire group had no chance of contesting. All for the krono.

I'll say that I love WoW but I do not like the 'chores' they've implemented into the game since Legion. Legion was tolerable with the AP grind towards the end of the expansion, but BfA and SL were/are still ones that make me hesistant at re-subbing more often. WoD tried to do it with the daily garrison stuff but it kind of failed, but I miss just gearing up a character via the content I wanted to do originally on it and doing specific content on it, not having to do everything on each character that I want to play just for something specific.

Guild Wars 2: I know Guild is in the title, but the game focus too much on guilds. Its what ruined WvW, and will totally destroy WvW once Alliances come. Instead of adding Player Housing they added more Guild Housing which most players will never get the chance to play around with due to Guild Politics. The Developers refuse to abandon their failed attempt at Esports, which that refuse to move away from the 5v5 SPvP model.
ESO: The concept was cool. But it was ruined by the Combat system, trying to different for the sake of being different while also staying accessible to Console control methods. The Level grind was boring and unneeded really. The Ingame Store part of the game ruined it a lot for me because inventory was very limited unless you subbed. They could have at least handled this like Guild Wars 2 does.
Rift: What killed that game for me was when they got rid of the macros. That was the best part of the play, since you had so many skills that needed to be chained together. It made the game playable. Also the level grind was boring mess. It goes against the Rift Portal concept since players would not be interested in Lower Level zones being invaded since the reward was low level. So as people level up they have no reason to go back. one of the major flaws of the Level grind system in MMOs in general.
New World: Where to start? Um this game has lots of flaws, besides the Bugs, which is also a major issue as well. The Level Grind was boring and worse than Vanilla Rift. The combat system feels very limited with the 3 weapon skills model, when each weapon only has 2 trees. There are not many other ways to customize and be unique from anybody else. Also despite being Faction PvP based, I feel nothing is really Faction PvP at all. Everything is Guild vs Guild. If you not in a good Guild, you will be missing out because nothing really Faction like about this game other than the color.

Fantastic Idea the Ship combat, the ground warfare, trading.
It's fatal flaw is the Dev Team. They can not do a damn thing correct to make the product any better.
