Time to swollow my pride.

Alright I haven't been on for quite a while since I've gotten a life, girlfriend, job.  Anyway, I've come to realize that runescape is only great for 3rd world countries, first mmorpg, and for the more experienced fond memories of their first mmorpg.  So I swollow my pride and say long live WoW.  Reply if you share my views or want to submit your own, either way be good to hear your views.

You'll see your girlfriend while playing WOW... until you hit level 60.

Then you get to choose between the game and, well, everything else in life.

Until then, it's a blast.  Just remember what was said, and don't be ashamed to quit when you think it's not worth it...

Be sure to take your time with WoW.  For me, getting to 60 was where I had the most fun.  And like the above person says, when you feel the urge to leave - do so without any shame nor regrets.

WoW is only going to last another 2 years, then we will see it diminish and rot due to the everlasting grind once you hit 60. Garunteed.

no, that's a high level instance you're thinking of, like doing all of strat or scholo or something.

unless you're in a guild that spends 40+ hours a week raiding.  then with that much time, after a few weeks, i'm sure you'll have things like zg and mc down to 3 hours.   i don't call that much time a game, i call that a second job at which i don't collect a pay check.

but hey, according to kaplan, 33,500 players (out of 6.5 million) enjoy raiding.  so i guess i'm only in the 99.71% majority that thinks raiding is a waster of time and booooooooooring.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Oh, you poor silly child.  Allow me to elaborate, since that tired old argument has been worn out.

A raid run takes 3-4 hours, give or take, yes.  Now, that's assuming you get into a group capable of doing that; if it's not a guild already, it's a PUG of the best veterans on your server, and that they are all there at the specified time and place on demand.  If not, double the time to collect everyone, find replacements, log back in after d/c, etc.

But you can't get your epics in one run, silly rabbit.  If you're in a raid guild, you can bet your sweet anus that they're using DKP or a similar system.  Meaning that even if by Almighty God's own decree that every piece of your class's set drops on your first raid run... you probably can't get them, not even one.

You have to earn the right, see, to be allowed to roll on it.  Oh, you could ninja it, but God help you if you need a group for something later; being blacklisted in the community is teh suck.

So.  You have to go on several raids to earn the pieces you need.  And most of these kinds of raids are done, tops, 1-2 times a week, give or take a raid.  You'll probably spend a month of hardcore raiding just to get everything from a single instance.  Don't forget, if you aren't on schedule with logging in and being there when you say you are, they can replace you and move on anyway.

But it's not over yet.  Because you see, that was just the first major instance.  If you hope to get better gear, you have to keep grinding more and more instances.  For example, most raid guilds won't even think about taking you to MC without you having X amount of Fire Resist.  So you have to grind for that gear, then grind MC to get better gear, then maybe grind two or three other instances.

In the end, as of right now in WOW, from the time you first hit 60 to you getting the full set of AQ top-end gear, running every instance for the things you feel you simply must have to stay competitive in PVP and other things, we're probably looking at 4-6 months, depending on your schedule, server stability (hard to raid if it goes out, you know, and this is a common problem in WOW), and other factors.

You can argue all you want about how this is or isn't "fair", but the simple plain fact is, a lot of people simply can't devote that much time to the game, and if raiders are going to get to get ahead of everyone so much, the rest of us would just assume find something else to play where we can spend equal effort/time on something, but not on someone else's schedule.

Like I said originally... enjoy WOW from 1-59, then, if you can't devote about 5+ hours a day/night to raiding (don't forget queues, disconnects, lag, etc. before you can even do the raid), just give it up and have no regrets that for a while, you enjoyed a fun game.  If you can devote all that time to a game, good for you.  I wish I could.

You quit because you have other pressing priorities over a MMORPG...And if that priority happens to be a 4 letter word which is L-I-F-E, then I see no justifiable means to harbor heavy doubts on doing so. It isn't hard really.

Now the previous post about that 3 lettered MMORPG really baffled me in a profound way. I would quit it full stop in less than a blink of an eye than joining or staying amongst millions of intellectually-challenged players that had wasted luxurious amount of time on it...Oh I forgot...It's p2p too wasn't it?
