In the last video update of the year, Ashes of Creation's Creative Director Steven Sharif showcased one of the largest changes coming to the MMORPG: migrating the MMO from Unreal Engine 4 to the latest iteration, Unreal Engine 5.

It’s obviously not optimized yet but Ue5 is a huge move and this will be far and away the best looking mmo yet and if I understand the engine correctly should be very good in large scale pvp settings. The question remains how much this will set back their already nebulous schedule.

just hope the game will have something unique about it and wont be just a copy/dupe of everything other mmos are known for like what seems to be the pattern from this video, especially getting New World vibes with corruption and climbing, and Elden Ring style spells...etc.

The only right move to make - if you got funds to continue the quest, for a proper triple A mmorpg.

    So far so good.

Since Alpha, it seems to me ( from my point of view, and my concerns ) that they are improving in the right directon - combat, visuals etc.
Keeping my hype & hopes to a minimum - but it does look promising.

Perhaps a future Nikua Beastmaster with Animal husbandry exploring the world of Ashes..

Best of luck to Sharif & the Ashes crew to complete there massive undertaking with flying colours.

    Merry christmas to everyone!

In development for 5 years, still in Alpha, and just changed engines. Just another kickstarter keeping people clinging to it in the hopes it becomes a game one day. Good luck.

We could just as well come with this take on game.

"Showing progress, improving workforce size, sharing regular monthly update and doing smart calls for the future".

I don't believe in either takes btw, but I for sure think both sides of the story belongs.

Kinda had enough of Sharif, he needs to stop being a control freak and let others shine.

EU5 looks really good but pushing release date further and further. Keep developing with small pace and continue gathering more money. Archeage 2 is going to be released before this game does.

Some say it'll release the day after Star Citizen.

The move to UE5 is probably a good move, but will they launch before UE6?

The problem with SC is the feature creeping that has been largely responsible for it's endless development and lack of a full launch. Intrepid//Ashes of Creation has thus far made it a point to stick to, or as close to their original vision as possible and avoid feature creeping. The move to UE5 is something they've already had underway for a little while, and it sounds like any "delay" of development will be relatively small. More like adding months, not years, and the move allows for more efficient development in general.

Just speculation on my part (No experience from developing games), but this doesn't necessarily push back the release does it? I imagine that it could have better tools to more easily add stuff, less bugs and other things to make up for the time it takes to migrate the assets to UE5.
    The graphics are gorgeous btw.

Whether it does or doesn't won't matter, UE5 will be held up for years going forward as yet another reason for more delays.

This game will release when all other MMO's have had years and years of content and new strategies to retain players...good luck with the competition especially if you bring nothing unique to the table which seems to be the case.

Good luck using an engine in EA for an MMOPRG. But at least they have a good excuse if there are delays.

Is that so? Because as far as I understand it, the new Nanite technology, which "simply" dynamically adjusts the meshes number of polygons, helps the client but not the server (which still has to calculate each unit).

They have explicitly said that moving to UE5 requires a transition period. So expect a setback.

But the backer packages and their rewards were delivered to everyone's accounts then. In what universe was a kickstarted game that had barely even begun it's actual development going to release in under a year? LMAO.

I hope there's a way to tone down all the blur, it sacrifices a ton of details even when watching at 4K.

May have an intiaal setback but the tools with UE5 will speed up production. Long run this is the best move for this project and sets up the long term success of Ashes. Getting upset with this falls under two categories. Not understanding what UE5 is about or just standard game bashing. Ashes has had a content game design they have stuck too. Not adding more and more to the scope of the game. Time to Cut them a break.

The only thing i know about UE5 is that it's supposed to have more robust scaling for large environments that essentially allow bigger open worlds to exist in far more stable conditions.

I guess it makes sense to move over to it.
