RamenVR is releasing Zenith: The Last City, a VR MMORPG, today, and Kevin had a chance to play it over this past week. The game has a stylized look and implements several mechanics from other VR titles. Do these VR elements work for an MMORPG? Read on for Kevin's initial impressions.

This is really "in progress" review. I hope You will mention how barebones "mmorpg" aspects there are as of right now. Meaning, there's no PvP, trading/economy, customization is even worse than in Albion, and the gameplay loop has me feared that this game will lose player's interest before it really shines (according to confident plans of RamenVR to enhance and expand this game heavily over the years). Not here to shit on this title, but I was heavily on the fence and decided that I won't be missing much if I give it a try in several months, seeing if there were any improvements and if people still play it.

Cosmetic shop in a VR game seems like it might be an uphill battle. Unless there are lots and lots of fancy rings or designer AI companions.

Its made to run on the quest 1, so that should not be surprising tbh. VR devs need to let that thing go so the visuals wont be held back as much. This sort of thing happened with FFXI many years later since it was built on ps2 dev kits. The running gag of "PS2 limitations" ended up being an excuse as to why we never got much in terms of graphic upgrades or not many new gear designs.

If this game can run for years, that same thing will be tossed around "Quest 1 limitations".

    That's the point.

-No one needs to read my long winded crap joke. Here is the punchline. Maybe a pile of dog crap is chok full of flavor but I'm not going to give it that chance.

You may even go through the process of applying for a business license, get yourself a perfect location and find mild success selling your dog crap dish.

You may years down the road be counting the money from your dog crap dishes and your accolades, you have the perfect life. You got it made.

Your friends will talk upon your death about how great you were at dog crap delicacy and how you donated almost all of your profits to securing dog rights so that they may produce more crap in a more humane way.

And I still won't give your dish a chance. Because it's crap.

These type of games do they look better with the glasses. May be it looks bad because we are viewing it without the VR gadgets.

VR is a lot more demanding on video cards. I'm sure they want the game to run on as many toaster ovens as possible. It's a demanding technology and that is why the graphics are probably the way they are.

I'm curious to see how VR translates into MMORPG's. Great for immersion but a negative to almost everything else I think.

We'll have to see how things pan out over the next few years. Walking in VR games needs some work imho, I have not played a game yet where I liked it.  Its always a case of "well I guess it will do" but it takes so much away imho.

With certain applications, VR really shines. A 100% VR MMORPG, I see as a really tough nut to crack.

The way a VR game looks in VR is much different than how it looks on a flat monitor. They don't know this, so they bash it. It simply showcases their ignorance.

Having played for a bit today, I can absolutely say it's immersive and smooth. One of the better MMO launches I've played. It would be easy to nitpick things like people running a few inches off the ground, but the reality is, you don't notice much because you are running around in a world, not looking at it on a screen.

I do not know how deep it is, but there's time for that. The devs seem eager to push out a good product which is something we don't see in most MMOs these days.

I bought this game (with store credit) 2 days ago and i've put about 15hours into it. I like it and i did not like Orbus. Not sure that's a good comparison, but Orbus never drew me in.

Those who say the gfx look like crap, as one has said they were made to run on Quest 1. On quest 2 they look good and, through Airlink, on PC they look so much better.

There are a lot of things to iron out and add. Tooltips, map locations names, more skills, more classes, more gear and styles. SO far, i've seen A LOT of people playing this and have been able to party up and do multi player events. You run across an occasional moron who acts like a dumbass..but not many.

THey DO need to do better at marking quests on the map or at least area names. Many times the light column (used to signify POI) isn't visible where you're at or it disappears, making it very hard to know where you're going and the HUD with quest tracking disappears as well, making it worst.

Hand gesture spells and abilities is very nice. You can change specs while playing, but there is a timer on changing it back. 5-10min i don't know. BUT, when you change spec, you are now the level of that spec. You have to level up each independantly. Not sure this is a why move.

ALl in all, for what's out in there in VR, i'd say this is a pretty solid choice for an "mmorpg" in VR right now. $30 ain't bad. As leats they're not $60 like all other games.

Give it a try...keep a running timer to 2hours in case it's not for you ,then refund. No harm
