Mortal Online 2 Subscription Fee Delayed, Star Vault Testing Patch for Launch Day Crashes and Errors | MMORPG.com
Mortal Online 2 officially launched with some frustration. Star Vault issued a patch and is working on pushing out a second one to smooth out the issues.
Not so sure "demand" was a root cause here, as opposed to them throwing together hardware at the last minute and not testing it... which is kind of on-brand for them.
Good move on the delayed sub though, because I know some folks have never been able to login again after leaving the newbie island. Just stuck loading forever.

what he meant and did clear this up in a stream is that the haven instances could hold 100k players..
My concern is that the world still feels empty. Not that its missing more players but the over all feel of animals mobs. Currently you ran in this beautiful world with a lot of great landscape and you might just might run across 1-3 bush hogs, dire wolfs and a deer here and there. They made bandits camps really the only place you can go kill things.. just makes the world feel rather empty
what he meant and did clear this up in a stream is that the haven instances could hold 100k players..
So how many players can the actual game hold? Steamcharts still show less than 8500, the majority of which or at least a huge chunk... are in the Haven area. Can the main game only hold 3000? (Thats not a bad number... unless its your only server)
I still think it goes back to their not fully testing the new hardware. This is right on brand for them and they literally said they were deploying new hardware and server setup the week before launch after the last test was closed.
But reasons don't really matter at the end of the day. They just need to fix it. Or it will fix itself.

A couple guildies said they are having fun in it, i told them I'm giving it a month before i join them lol. I hope it turns out good, i would love a solid pvp game but I'm hesitant after the first run with this game.

I personally doubt the game can hold more than 4-5k without issues. Now, if we compare those numbers to the STEAM charts, showing 8,5k at peak pop, it seems about right. That means 5k in game (a lot AFK) and 3k in an endless queue waiting for someone to crash so they can get in.
Queue issues will iron themself out, as the playerbase MOST likely will drop to somewhere around 4k active players. Not bad for one server and a very niche game, if you ask me. And I suppose Henrik and the small team can live with that too. But, wouldnt it be awesome if the actual 8k could play at the same time.
The biggest problem is the constant lying from Henrik. He has no clue what to do and finally admitted as such when he waited till a weekend to contact a network specialist who told them they were doing their entire login/connection incorrectly.
SV Stated they fixed the Login Queue, saved your space if you crashed ETC.
Wireshark results that the "login queue" is not a queue, its a auto clicker to request server access. They dont have a true login queue.
Henrik stated the servers can handle 100k players. His Lead Developer later posted in Discord that "Henrik was talking about haven(starter zone that is instanced) not the main land"
SV stated there is a AFK Auto kick timer.
Players already confirmed this was untrue. I myself tested this last night when I went to dinner for two hours with my wife and came back to my character in the world staring at the same tree and was able to resume what I was doing prior to leaving.
SV later stated that when players disconnected by server, they got sent to the Character select screen and this tied them to the Login Queue, thus locking more players out.
SV Has continued to Ban anyone that reminds the SV team that these issues were brought up in Alpha and Beta and they should have been prepared.
Henrik has no clue what he is doing and should be removed as CEO and the company handed to someone with a better vision and direction. As well All players should be given a second account so they can atleast play on Haven till the issues are resolved. which they now state wont happen till sometime next week.
Sub or not, this company is ran by an idiot and steam should remove it from their site till SV can get their crap together.
I bet Henrik underestimated the drought we have atm.
As NW was such a huge disappointment for many, WoW is in a bad state, ESO showed a boring low feature addon and FF14 themepark is already rushed through by most locusts.
Also NW showed that immersive worlds can be fun (just to destroy it completely with non immersive grind features)
Now the Locust swarm is looking for more food to eat and there are now games like Broken Ranks and MO2 which get way more attention than they would if the other MMOs wouldn't struggle.
I believe they expected around double or triple the players of MO1 which would be around 2000-4000 but not >8000.
They had a good backup plan with haven but maybe they expected more people to quit within haven already, or people staying there for longer.
Not a fan of games that say "Players make the content"
While I also like to be entertained by the game I am playing, MO1 was really good to deliver player made content because of the sandbox feature it offered.
Full-loot paired with territory and destroyable houses/keeps lead to people building empires, wars, territory defense, diplomacy.
Area depending resources without a global bank leads to stuff like material transports, area depending markets...
There is meaningful drama because the actions of every single Individuum has consequences.
Also there are quests and riddles but they are way more hidden and complicated than just speaking with a npc who has an exclamation mark above his head and then follow the orders.
A key might be found but nothing tells you who needs the key or were this key might fit.
You have to find this by yourself, just like in real Roleplay games in the old days.
I bet Henrik underestimated the drought we have atm.

So now you see 4000 people in a stress test which is free. And you see 6000 purchases 2 weeks before release.
What would you do?
Don't tell me open up new servers, because getting a new server up might take 2 weeks alone with all the infrastructure stuff you need to do. It's not just clicking a button and 2 seconds later you have deployed a mirror instance on another server.
Just out of curiosity. Do you work in software development, especially gaming or SaaS? (Not having your own server infrastructure in your company, but even there it often takes 1-2 weeks to get a new server if I look at major automotive or technology companies I am working for)

Easy answer, delay the release, tell people why, order the the hardware or cloud service, all which I would have had well planned in advance since getting unexpected last minute demand should actually be prepared for by every online service provider.
Another approach would be to let players in based on when they purchased the game, first in, first out. Late arrivers would be denied access at launch until new capacity is available.
Never seen a game company do this but it is possible.
Or do what SQENIX did for FFXIV, stop selling the game until you can handle the load.
This is the first game I've heard about designed so the starter area can hold far greater numbers of players, but fall over as said players try to move into the greater game world.

Objectively, yes I have stayed in the starter area for about 10hrs... not leaving till there is a patch to fix (and confirmed working by players). Yes, that evil thing twitch has helped me... spoke with diehard streamers for advice... a bunch are staying in the starter area.
You can level up a lot of skills there (per your build). And because the starter zone is the only instanced area in the game (highly instanced, few players in a instance... and you can switch instances)... you do not really compete for resources required to level. For example, you can grind zombies for weapons skills. I'm also slaughtering the pig area with bow to level up archery (it is right next to a bow and arrow merchant, which you can sell pig meat to for more arrows).
The catch is you can only leave with equipped items + 6 inventory items and max 5 gold... which makes sense because they don't want bots farming it for resources and ruining the games economy. Don't drop your starter sword and torch... I've been told they are the only useful persistent items, upon death, in the game.
8000 subs is the viability point for the game... meaning continued development and content.
