Final Fantasy XIV players on Steam can start rejoicing, as Square Enix announced that Steam Version Account Linking was finally coming to the MMORPG.

    Yay!! Been hoping this would happen one day, hope we get steam achievs too.

    Aye sorry, i do prefer having my games on steam, still waiting for FF7 Remake to come to steam as well.

    This doesn't mean that I can play on steam if I owned it just on Square Enix before correct? I remember people saying you had to rebuy everything.

    i hope this is exactly that, if we still have to rebuy to get it to launch on steam with our 10 year old accounts, then it is pointless.

    Square Enix at least with online features seems to be extremely backwards so I have a feeling they aren't going to make it work without buying it again. I mean hell they still use Playonline for FFXI. I've had to rebuy everything twice already for FFXIV just so I can play on my PS5 if I don't feel like going on my PC, I really don't feel like buying it a third time just so it can be in my steam library.

    This actually sucks royally. This makes it so if you have the Steam version of the game, and you want to login (using the steam client) to play an account that doesn't have the Steam license, you can't play. Unique scenario, I know, but less restrictions is better here. It's bad enough you have to buy it on multiple platforms. This also means for Steam Deck, you'll need to own the Steam version (unless you can download the game outside of Steam).
