I think it's a smart move. All these different companies wanted their own launchers and I think they are missing out on some business. If it's a game I really want, I'll get the other launcher. However, if it isn't something in my 'must play' list and only in a lower tier play list, I'll just do without. I like having a central location and steam is my choice. I would believe that I'm not the only one, but I have no idea whether I have 5 like minded gamers or 10 billion. I'm guessing closer to 5.
I never used the launcher though you do have to do some stuff in order to use the Creation Kit for Special edition. Which in some ways is very horrible. Best to use the original Creation kit and then save in the new one.

Huh. Anyone remember all the hullabaloo about people being tired of having to use several launchers for a just a few games about two years ago? Guess one company finally figured it the fuck out.

As much as I hate to give them any credit, EA did too. While Origin still exists they moved their games to steam too awhile ago. So thats EA and Bethesda that have moved back over to Steam. So now they have a shot at me buying their games again lol. I probably won't but at least they have a chance!

Ah thanks I did not know that .... mainly because I haven't supported EA for about a decade now.
Good that they're getting rid of that launcher. I hated it.
You will still need a Bethesda.net account which you could already use to sync between Steam, GamePass, and Bethesda if you hooked them up right.
I originally play FO76 through GamePass and linked my Bethesda account to it. When I bought it on Steam I linked my Bethesda account to it as well (instead of creating a new one) which sync'd my purchases and progress between the two platforms.
The only gotcha to this move is if you already own a title on both Bethesda and Steam, but the Steam version uses a different Bethesda account. You can't have two of the same game key on Steam so that will create an issue. I'm not sure what they're going to do about that.
I might get stuck in that situation regarding the Steam account. I have both an account through the launcher and Steam. Everything I've read this morning about it leads to messing with the .ini or using third party programs to run two versions of the game on Steam.
I hope this won't be the case when the time comes.

To be fair, you still need the EA launcher to play the game from Steam. It's just that as you launch the game, it launches the Origin client and you don't generally have to interact it with it beyond that.
So, in that case, EA is just getting Steam customers to see their game when they otherwise might have just not seen it if they didn't use Origin independently.

Is this for ESO too? My ESO account is through their launcher, before it came to steam.
No. ESO uses its own launcher, not the generic Bethesda launcher.

On one hand I don't want any company to have a monopoly, but on the other hand, I really don't want another half assed launcher on the market, especially ones that don't bring anything new to the table.
I can see WHY so many companies want to have their own launchers - more inhouse marketing for their games, and less fees/cuts they have to pay to another company. What I don't get is how badly all of these companies have botched their launchers, especially when they have Steam to use as a reference.
Keep in mind, their games are on Microsoft gamepass too. I recently subbed for the $10 and got more games than my HD can store.
For mods, I been using Vortex app on Nexus mods to search, download, and manage my mods. It's free, unless you want download speeds > 2mbs (which I really don't need).

Just saying nexon makes a better launcher and that my friends is hella bleak.
