It had died already almost immediately after launch. I say this as someone who actually enjoyed playing it.
I'm not surprised they are going this direction, their game didn't drum up enough hype to actually survive off of the original intended game, now they have to slap crypto on it just to get the attention of the crypto crowd who will immediately jump to any idea of crypto in something. It will be interesting to see if it pays off for the devs or not.

On a level, I hope it doesn't. It's always sad when an MMO fails, but this move shows a sort of ignorance from the developers to join in on a ponzi scheme to try and screw over their remaining playerbase. Watching it die out would be better overall for the genre.
Apparently there will be both a crypto server and a non-crypto server. And really, if you want to add NFTs to a game without chasing most of the world's gamers away, that's the way to do it. At least, if you can get enough of a player base to keep both servers active enough to be playable.
I wonder if companies do any research before making that decision to add NFTs to a game? If they do, and they must miss this site.
Formula for an MMORPG (2022 edition): Take a partially-implemented implementation of a half-baked game, toss in some NFT promises and a handful of buzzwords, and developers can wait for the mega-$$$ to roll in!
NFTs are not a get-rich-quick scheme; its a possibly-get-a-tiny-bit-wealthier-eventually-if-you're-incredibly-lucky scheme. The truth hurts.

If your game has basically failed and your choice is to either accept funding to change the business model or shut down the game and lay everyone off, it shouldn't be that surprising that the developers choose the former out of desperation.
Meanwhile, the sort of people who want to build blockchain games don't necessarily know anything about making good games. Paying some other game to add blockchain could easily result in a better game part of the game than if they tried to make their own game from scratch.
That leaves open the question of why any investors would pay to create blockchain games. I think it's really just targeted at people who got rich speculating on cryptocurrencies. They're hoping to make their money off of such mega-whales if they can convince them that this is the next great blockchain investment.
Here is the thing... the game couldn't make it on its own, how does adding NFT's and Blockchain change anything about the game itself? Does it make the actual gameplay better in any real way? I paid for this game in Alpha and I enjoyed it... but then they backed out on so much they said they were going to do. How does NFT fix any of it?
Game has been DOA since the name change. Im annoyed that this guy took my Kickstarter money to go rogue ,make a totally different game and then flipped it for a profit. I doubt it was much, though.
The game is going to be completely 3d behind-the-shoulder now. Worst case, I keep not playing a game wasn't playing. Best case, they are giving crap to Kickstarters so maybe somebody will buy it?

Don't worry, I'm sure gaming crypto schemers are on the level. Just shut up and throw your money at them. (Read that in the voices of Kang and Kodos)
I posted the HN thread instead of the Jusice dot gov article because there are a lot of very informative comments in it.
Don't worry we will see more of this soon as more people throw money at this. Early adopters are the ones that grifted first. I should change adopters to early grifted.
Because nothing says "great chance to make a lot of money" quite like throwing a bunch of money at a game that has already failed.
You know how Steam lists review scores both all time and in the last 30 days? There aren't enough reviews in the last 30 days for them to list the latter.
So, here's my thing......the blockchain offerings to this point reek of scams themselves and have no actual game offering, or those that do actually offer a game, the game(s) are barely homebrew worthy. Gonna ignore Ubisoft, but there's an actual game here.......wouldn't it be neat if this shit show avoids turning into a dumpster fire, as well....and bridges this gap. Not Entropia, but something actually viable and worthy of such a tag as 'Play to Earn' /shrug

Which this game never will have. On account of it sucking.
