I'm having so much fun with Elden Ring. Fromsoftware seems to just make gem after gem.

Are you guys playing console or this shit pc port? Has shit pc port been improved since I tried and refunded?
Series X here, Quality mode actually, not Performance. Not flawless, very solid though.

My thought and as I've said before, is that if one is playing for the pvp then I can see some concerns if there is some stuttering. I haven't had issue with stuttering affecting my game play as it doesn't happen offten, it doesnt' happen for long and it's not huge.
Again, there is a new patch but I haven't had the chance to see if it does anything for performance. I"m currently playing everything on the highest settings.

I haven't noticed any major framerate issues in my playtime recently. I read in the patch notes that they improved the mouse operation, but I can't speak to how well it functions. I only ever used ps3/ps4 controller for these games.

I'm playing on PC and I haven't had a single problem running everything maxed. All I had to do is change the on screen prompts to Keyboard settings and never looked back. There is some slight awkwardness with controls, I wish slightly more was rebindable, but beyond that its one of the best games I've played and goes right up there with Kingdom Come Deliverance for how much it impressed me and how much its likely going to get replayed. Between this and Lost Ark I'm gonna be a happy gamer for quite awhile.

Ugh disappointing, I hate when ports dont feel good with keyboard/mouse.
Especially this game because ive heard nothing but great things of the open world.
It depends. Going in game now, the pc controls "feel" fine. However, they don't take into account that you are playing on pc so, for example, using escape doesn't get you out of the menu you are in. Instead, you have to right click and then choose "back" which is a circled "B" which the controller would use.
Which is the other issue. You don't get translated pc controlls but instead get the controller buttons and you just have to know what the pc controls are.
So in that case, it's not great.
However, it plays fine using keyboard and mouse. Also, I did some playing and noticed no framerate issues. However, that's just a small sampling and your mileage may vary.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

I'm not seeing the open world innovation you speak of but I am enjoying it a lot despite it's janky ass keyboard and mouse controls forcing me to a controller which I am complete crap at using.
Well, there might not be innovations but there is for sure art and creativity + WHAOO moments.
It is really immersive, and I agree with @lahnmir: IT IS stunning. It conveys the surreal feeling of a nightmare mixed with a mythic fairy tale. While saying almost nothing, the world whispers its own dark poetry and stimulates your imagination beyond the incredible sightseeing. IT IS a masterpiece.
I'm playing on PC. About 5 crashes, and I got killed by stuttering at an Open World Boss once. I have been playing since the 24th and am 39 hours in. So, not perfect, but pretty good.
I have had a lot of fun. There is A LOT of exploration which will be hit or miss depending on you feel needing to look around for things, but once you get in a structure like a castle, it is super fun (in a difficult sense).
Although, I have found Magic is like Demon Souls and really makes a lot of open world bosses or main bosses trivial. The Chamber/cave/tomb bosses can still be a little difficulty because they can have multiple in a small room which leaves very little cast time.
I'm a pretty terrible player, I just really enjoy DeS, DS1, and DS3. Margit took me 6 tries and Grafted took me 2. For a terrible player, that is pretty easy. But, still TONS to go.

To change how the prompts are displayed:
Under System Options find "Sound and Display" (3rd tab from the left).
On the 8th line down you should see: "Device for On-Screen Prompts" where you can cycle between "Game Pad" and "Keyboard and Mouse".
Annoying that it doesn't auto-select. It was very noticeable for me because I just finished the campaign for Cyberpunk 2077 and the game seamlessly changes prompts depending on which control method you use. Very helpful because I played KB&M but drive vehicles with a controller.

I am glad to explain. I learned a few things from Elden Ring which I think the industry as a whole should take notice of:
Clumsy combat like found in the Elder Scrolls and Piranha Bites games isn’t passable, it is bad.
Endless lists of tasks like found in most Ubisoft open world titles aren’t content, they are cheap filler.
Villages full of NPCs and their menial routines and stories aren’t needed to make a world come alive. That would be most games in the genre but with a special mention to CDRed.
Story/lore dumps like books found in the game world or overtly chatty NPCs are a poor substitute for the ‘show, don’t tell’ principle. 2 NPCs, 20 lines of text total and a castle to explore make Elden Rings Castle Morne a more interesting side quest than 99% of the stuff out there for instance. Gameplay trumps everything.
Also, make a gameworld internally cohesive. From Software understands this like very few others do.
But perhaps most importantly, it once again showed me that one game mechanic done really well gives more depth than a hundred shallow mechanics combined ever could. Waves at every other open world game out there.
Ohh, and level scaling. It should die in a fire once and for all.

I found both Skyrim and The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt fantastic and immersive games.
Skryim being the best of the two.
I have watched Cohh play Elden Ring and its very much Dark Souls in an Open World setting. Nothing more, nothing less.
He admits it himself and was pretty upfront right from the start. He said he is a big fan of the DS series and if you are not a fan of DS, then you won´ t like Elden Ring. He said, its maybe not what people want to hear, but it is what it is. No way around it.
He also had some series stuttering and freezing issues in the game with some of the boss fights in dungeons (outch).

Zero freezing issues on Series X so far, fingers crossed. Then again, bugs/performance issues in open world games? So far Elden Ring performs much better out of the gate then pretty much all other ones.’ It ain’t perfect though.
I also don’t agree with Cohh one bit since level design is 50% of what makes the Souls games great and switching to open world completely changes the playing field. But that is the great thing about opinions, they can differ. Full disclosure, I love Witcher 3 but utterly despise every Elder Scrolls game after the brilliance that was Morrowind, which I have spent hundreds of hours with.

That many people are paying 60 bucks a pop for this?
It's one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. The art design, to my taste, is masterful, the world is amazing, the game is about exploration and the exploration is rewarding. Plus there are challenging fights, at least for me.
I love what eoloe said about it being a Faerytale nightmare. So true.

I'll disagree with you about the Elder Scrolls games. There is brilliance in the games that came after Morrowind Don't get me wrong, Morrowind is more to my "exploration" preference.
However, the worlds and characters of the later Elder Scrolls games are far more fleshed out.

The game is fun but it can also b frustrating at times. If you haven't played any Souls game (like me) you can still learn how to play this...just don't expect it to be an easy learn. I am also a little frustrated with with the PvP invasions. Not because they are PvP but because they take away from questing using up too much time. I really wish I could turn off invasions and just quest with friends at times.
